In the nineteenth century, Kaya lives on the edge of the vast boreal forest that pulses with an ancient, wild rhythm. As a sentinel star seed, a celestial being rooted in the soil, she guards the woodland’s hidden, vital currents. She sees her land as a breathing tapestry of light and shadow, but it comes under siege by The Hollow: a predatory void threatening to consume the forest in eternal silence.
Guided and protected by the spirit of her grandfather and aided by Sy, a fox whose soul is woven into her own, Kaya learns to master her unfolding gifts.
In a dream realm, she meets Emma, who is adrift in the weight of modern life two centuries beyond her time. Discovering that Emma is battling an illness that stems from the reach of The Hollow, Kaya stretches across the dreamscape to pull her back toward health, realizing along the way that their destinies are intertwined.
As The Hollow encroaches upon every timeline and threatens the wilderness and all its inhabitants with collapse, Kaya must grasp the true purpose of her power. Can she bridge the gap between past and future to save herself, Emma, and the world before it is lost forever?

Star Roots is deeply personal. It was shaped by my own journey recovering from Lyme disease. Writing this story and building this world served as a profound source of solace, restoration, and mental healing. The book is an homage to planetary stewardship, personal resilience, and the belief that no matter the size of the challenge or trauma, it is valid and worthy of healing.

The cover artwork for Star Roots is an original woodburned (pyrography) piece created by hand in my Northern Minnesota studio. Blending physical artisan woodworking with storytelling was an essential part of bringing this visionary fantasy to life.
