A gripping book about friendship, first love, and urban legends. Melissa Adams and Billy Thompson have been best friends since the day they met. Most people wouldn’t know it though, since Melissa has been in a coma for ten years. Ever since, she’s been a spirit that only Billy can see or interact with, giving him no semblance of privacy and an elevated heart rate.
It’s not easy being a teen in Knothole, New Mexico, especially when your classmates catch you talking to yourself all the time, but at least Billy has Melissa to count on. Unfortunately, their friendship is threatened by a trio of weird doctors who seem to be further away from their alleged homeland of Norway than they claim. With Melissa's grandmother desperate for her to wake up, only Billy and his comatose friend are able to see how bizarre the doctors’ behavior actually is, and that their intentions might not involve Melissa waking up.
