I would most definitely highly recommend the dark portal by Robin Jarvis. I received this from netgalley to review.
In the sewers of Deptford there lurks a dark presence which fills the tunnels with fear.
This was a new genre for me.
I'm glad I did as I Devoured this in less than 24 hours. I couldn't put it down. Had me gripped from start to finish. I was actually rooting for the mice.
Can't wait for book 2. This is most definitely a 5 * from me.

I read this first twenty three years ago and was utterly bewitched then. Over two decades later this is still amongst my favourite series of all time. Darkly imaginative, chilling and satisfying, The Dark Portal is the first in a trilogy which is a tour de force amongst children''s books. Still love this as much as I ever did, if not more.

I first read this book years ago so it was nice to revisit the Deptford Mice for a second time and found I still enjoyed it as much as when I first read it.. A good adventure story although a bit dark in places and full of lots of great, likeable characters. A great read!
