Description

New York, 1776. White specks appear on the horizon in the early morning hours. Church bells ring in warning. Scores of His Majesty’s ships round in from the Atlantic, carrying 32,000 British soldiers and their Hessian mercenaries. It is the largest expeditionary force ever launched by Britain—or any nation—and their aim is to quash the American Revolution.

The New York Campaign has begun.

Abigail Goodwyn is a twenty-year-old farmer’s daughter when the British and Hessians arrive on Staten Island. After her family is visited by a sadistic British lieutenant, Abigail volunteers to spy for the Continental Army. She makes inroads with influential British officers, that is until her budding relationship with a handsome Hessian soldier complicates matters. All the while, the British lieutenant stalks Abigail’s every movement. When confronted by her family’s tormentor, Abigail must choose between vengeance and the mission.

Based in historical research, Whispers of Liberty tells the unheralded story of women’s essential contributions to the American cause. General George Washington urged his commanders to “leave no stone unturned” in the pursuit of intelligence, with women highly coveted as spies because they could go where men could not. This is the story of one such woman and her struggle after the war reaches her doorstep.
