Description
On the day Zach Girard collects his high school diploma, he learns that his father has leukemia. Over the next five years, grief, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the pressures of early adulthood force him to confront questions he has spent much of his life avoiding.
Drawing from personal journals, Zach recounts his father’s death, his transition, and his diagnoses of autism, anxiety, and moral scrupulosity OCD. He writes candidly about self-harm, medication, friendship, work, and the search for a life that feels honestly his own.
Drifting Sublime Hope is a raw and deeply personal memoir about growing into an identity, surviving profound loss, and learning that stability need not mean perfection. It is the story of how one young man kept living - and slowly found reasons to believe that a meaningful life was still possible.
A Note From the Publisher
Advance Praise
"Zach Girard’s Drifting Sublime Hope is an exceptional memoir, and the author writes with such openness that I very quickly felt I knew the person behind the journals. [...] Well-written and inspiring, readers who appreciate memoirs that find meaning in everyday experiences will embrace this." — Readers' Favorite
"Drifting Sublime Hope begins with a startling question: What if my purpose is to die? Zach Girard spends the pages that follow living his way toward another possibility: What if my purpose is to stay, love, create, and tell the story only I can tell?" — Ken Breniman, author of a three body solution
"Zach’s future explodes into relationships of misunderstandings. Through exploring his father’s attempts at finding a way through autism, sexual identity, and leaving, Zach engenders hope for a future, crocheting a new life by discarding the needles of self-destruction.” – Joel Bernard, author of /Déjà Vu: Choices, Consequences, and Second Chances/
