This book is not for everyone with MS. I thought it would have a lot of different options but was disappointment. I personal don't think it was written with American in mind.

Interesting perspective on diet for MS sufferers. Good information and pictures. Good to get all information to make informed decisions. Recommend reading.

THE MS DIET BOOK gives an excellent overview of the three types of multiple sclerosis, Relapsing-Remitting, Primary Progressive, and Secondary Progressive....the vast array of side affects that are not common to everyone (which makes diagnosis difficult)....and the combination of causes they feel trigger the disease.

Most importantly, THE MS DIET BOOK gave me a much needed smack in the face to remember how important eating the right foods and exercise are to staying healthy and slowing the progression of this exasperating disease. (It is so dam easy to get bored with virtually no sugar, low fat, low salt and the dreaded daily exercise routine even when I know the benefits.)

THE MS DIET BOOK leans heavily toward nutritional therapy describing 4 different diet programs and food supplements that are beneficial for a variety of reasons, and while some of the resources and data are geared toward people in the U.K., I did not think it lessened the informative nature of the book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Sheldon Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review, and to Tessa Buckley for sharing her own experiences living with MS. (I intend to purchase a hard copy and bookmark it to death!)

I was given a copy of The Multiple Sclerosis Diet Book from NetGalley and I looked it over and reviewed it in my own.
This book had some good suggestions but in my opinion it was written for an audience in Europe not the United States based on some of the suggestion and the recipes that were offered so as a whole the book was not that helpful to me. When it explained and broke down some of the diets that are out there and how they relate to MS that was interesting but a biased.
Overall, this book was not really what I would want if I was looking for information to help me here in the States and that is why I am giving it two out of five stars I would hope if someone is making a diet book for MS they could make it so it could be used world wide.

I am not very impressed with this book, now in its second edition. It's a good summary of the different MS diets out there, but they and this book are very long on advice you can find anywhere (no saturated ats, eat more veggies) and short on looking at current nutritional evidence.

I realize the author is not a doctor and that her purpose is to summarize. But I get so tired of reading the same old advice everywhere, especially when it is what everyone knows and when it is contradicted by other medical evidence.

Oh how I would love to see something that didn't make me feel as if I was helping my MS by putting other parts of my health at risk.

But the description of the diets is just one part of the book. The bulk of the book is recipes. There are several good things about them. First after each recipe's name the author lists the diets it works for. Second a handy table at the beginning of the section translates European oven settings and measurements to US equivalents, making to book more useful.

i just wish the recipes were more interesting!
