I got an e-copy from Netgalley in an exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book. When a blue frog becomes the first from his area to be accepted into the prestigious Croak College, he's ecstatic. Biriwita is sure he's going to have a wonderful time and do great things. Unfortunately, when he goes and meets with the other students' things don't go as planned. No frog outside his home lake is blue and some of the other frogs get together and bully Biriwita harshly. Pushing and mocking the poor frog for not being green.

Biriwita's story was set in Africa and it was nice to see a picture book take a direct look at education, family legacy and death. That is not always the case as sometimes these things get glossed over when written for children. But in this book you know that education is important and the value of being the first from your area to get a higher education. A timely topic indeed for many. Also the risk of death was well shown and not just told to the reader. A child listening to or reading this tale can envision what danger the other frogs are in and read to see how things will turn out. Plus the art is quite nice and the fact that this book is to help a charity is another tick in the positive column.

My only issue was the writing seemed not as good as some previous children books I've read (there is little there in my opinion to push children's imagination). I felt the illustrations had to do a lot of heavy lifting. Informative writing and imaginative writing are not the same and it just seemed that the author forgot his core audience are small children.

Still the story rang true and the lesson was brilliant.

Overall a good little story about a frog who is bullied for being different.
Liked the images and the colours used, 4 stars from me.

I was to receive this book from Netgalley but it would not download. I reported it to Netgalley and they were going to try to resolve the problem. So far, no luck! :-(

Fantastic book to help young children understand that everyone is unique and that is okay. Brilliant illustrations and great storyline, highly recommend.

Great story for young children about what it means to be different and long to be accepted. Will really appeal to children in many levels and from many backgrounds- whether they look physically different to their peers or they simply live different lives.

Biriwita comes to regret going to the college but when danger arises it will be up to him to decide if he will stand up and help those who mocked him or hide and abandon them.

A lovely children's picture book about accepting differences, overcoming prejudice, and being who we are. A good story with a great underlying message, and vibrant, vivid illustrations.

Faiz, this was a cute little book that was powerful in many ways, The message, of course, strong but not in your face or preachy. Second, the imagery was very nicely done and third, the frog choice just was so cute as well, not many choose frogs to be the main character, and it brought to mind books I read when I was a child, the books were about two frogs that were friends and ALL the pictures, I can remember staring at them for hours and making my own stories up in my head about what was going on, I think it was frog and toad.... ahhh, the memories... Thanks!

What a great time to read a book about differences to children! Biriwita is a blue frog who doesn't realize he will encounter obstacles when he applies to Croak College and all the other frogs are... green.

This book teaches that differences do not make us weird or outsiders, that frogs as well as people can make important contributions no matter the color of your skin. A heartwarming tale for all ages.

Short tale about a frog who leaves Lake Ticklewater (where all the frogs are blue) to attend Croak College. There, all the frogs are green and they ridicule the poor blue frog.. The blue frog saves the day when he foils an attack on the other frogs. Blue frog is hailed as a hero, to be teased no more. The rest is history and they all live happily ever after.
