Brilliant book. Much needed. On a planet where racism is sadly still everywhere we need to embrace each other and appreciate that all humans are equal and have as much to give as another. I wish they had books like this when my daughter was a child.

Because I accessed Little Leaders through NetGalley, it was hard to truly appreciate the beauty of the illustrations featured throughout. However, even though I couldn’t truly embrace every aspect of the book, it was impossible to give Little Leaders anything less than five stars.

Featuring 40 women who achieved greatness despite the odds being stacked against them (and shouting out to a handful of other inspirational figures), Little Leaders provides more detailed biographies than Amazing Women. However, as a lot of the same women appear in both, the titles complement each other perfectly and work wonderfully together.

Throughout history, women’s achievements have often been attributed to the men closest to them, and that’s always been more difficult for black women to reclaim. It’s brilliant to see credit given where it is due, allowing children to see people like them represented in positive positions where they’ve literally managed to change the world.

No matter how old you are, I’d recommend giving Little Leaders a read. I guarantee that you’ll discover something you didn’t know previously, and you’ll wonder how you don’t recognise some of the most inspirational names in this collection.

This is a brilliant book full of the life stories of incredible black women, some of the women were well known to me and others I’d never heard of so it was fantastic to read their stories. Also the illustrations are beautiful!

This fascinating book that looks into the lives of women of colour, is a great support for all in how to overcome adversity and get along in life. Just because the odds are against you never give up.

A great idea and very informative non-fiction text showing positive role models. The illustrations are bold and appealing and the text is suitable for children and teenagers. I would recommend this for primary school libraries.

This book features 40 black women from history and our time. it features known figures such as Oprah Winfrey or Angela Davis and some lesser known (to me), such as Seaman William Brown. The texts are written beautifully and are brilliant to read aloud or just for oneself.
I really like the gentle-ness of the illustrations of this book. It is a beautiful addition to all the other women-centred books out at the moment.

A lovely book in a similar vein to Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World and Goodnight Atories for Rebel Girls, but all about black women. This is a great way to teach kids about history, and especially great to highlight the non-white faces who are often forgotten.

This book is not only gorgeous but also a fabulous way to show children how diverse our history is.

Books about important women in history are so important, as women are not much of a subject of discussion in school history lessons (well, when I was in school we only covered the suffragettes) and when they are they are white, so when books about women who are not white exist, it’s an awesome thing.

These short biographies make a statement that Harrison delivers with such passion. Short but succinct for each woman in the book, she tells the story of more well known women like Rosa Parks but also puts a spotlight on lesser known women who have also made an impact on the world, including Mary Savage and Alice Ball.

Accompanying each biography is the artwork. It’s adorable and really brings this book together beautifully. The artwork for women such as Harriet Tubman and Alma Woodsey-Thomas are ones that stand out to me, however this book is full of fantastic art that works perfectly throughout the book, bold and bright throughout.

A fantastic book that highlights incredible women, it’s a fantastic read from start to finish. I hope the author makes more books like this and this is the start of the series.

I thought this was such an interesting and important book. I loved to learn about the women and it was fascinating to learn about the ones I never heard of. The art work was stunning and they were the cutest depictions ever. I liked the inclusion of the other women the author would include as that was really fascinating too.
