As a wedding gift I got a bunch of cake decorating tools after talking about my interest in the craft, then it dawned on me as looking at all these tools...I have no idea what I am doing. This book changed that, it is truly a complete beginners guide to cake making and decorating, I especially am excited to try out the fondant sculpting! Sadly the author did not seem to have a high opinion of natural food coloring, which is sad since I am allergic to artificial color, they might be deemed safe by the FDA but not everyone can eat them! Other than that I cannot recommend this book highly enough if you want to learn the basics of cake decor.

Great cake decorating books have more photos than writing. This is a great cake decorating book.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the Publishers for this review copy, given in exchange for an honest review.

What you have here is a complete step-by-step, idiots guide on cake making. If you are a complete novice, then this book is perfect as it covers everything. If you are know something about cake making, then you'll will find something in here which you didn't know!

There are no recipes for specific cakes in here, although there are some pictures as to what kind of cakes you could make. There are a couple of recipes for buttercream and fillings, but this book is essentially a guide on how to do all the little bits which make the perfect handmade cake. Some of the things it covers are piping, borders, flowers, stencilling and writing. There are pages and pages of instructions and this book makes a difficult craft look so easy.

Just be aware it is an American book, so some of the measurements may be different. This book is so perfect for all budding cake designers and I reckon even I could make a cake look good using this book!
