Whilst the illustrations inside of I Know A Woman are bloody gorgeous (seriously, if you ever see it in a bookstore go and have a peek inside - you won't be disappointed), the biographies detailing the women's lives are more than a little basic. It is nice that all the 84 women are compiled in one place but, compared to some of the other books that have been release recently that are all in the same vein, the information it puts forward is nothing that you have not come across before. Add that to the fact that the links between the women are quite tenuous, and the way that Kate Hodges has tried to put together those links is more than a little painful then, no matter how pretty it is, I really can't give this book any more than a two-star rating.

This is a really beautiful and informative book. It is a compendium of inspirational women throughout history, each story is accompanied by a beautiful illustration. The illustrations are amazing as there are little Easter eggs about the women in question hidden in them. The book attempts to create a flow between the stories and each subsequent women is linked to the previous one. Some of the links feel rather forced and the last paragraph of each story is a rush to shoehorn another woman in so she can be the next one to have her story told. Also, it can also make the book seem repetitive as there are several women who are very similar that follow each other and it would have been better if they were spread out across the book. Overall, this was a brilliant read and I learned about some amazing women through history and got to see some beautiful art.

An enjoyable read that focuses on the achievments of many great women throughout history. Books such as this (Great Women who Changed the World and Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls) are really rising in popularity lately and I can imagine this book amongst them.

I know A Woman is a book that connects the lives of incredible women throughout history. Featuring women such as Hedy Lamarr, Harriet Tubman and Fanny Mendelssohn, I Know A Woman features women you may know, but women you may not from a diverse range of backgrounds that makes for a such a good read.

Each page has a short biography of each woman, telling us what each one did but also the women they worked or associated with, which then connects us to the next page of the book - it’s a book that makes you curious and then feeds it as we see each woman connecting to another throughout the book in sheer brilliance from the start.

Accompanying these words is the work of Sarah Papworth. Papworth really brings, with her art these women back to life throughout this I Know A Woman. Her artwork for women such as Amy Johnson, Anita Garibaldi and Chien Shiung-Wu are just three of the pages I remember standing out, however this book is filled with stunning images of incredible women through the ages.

I am here for picture books for adults, and this one is going to start my collection.

I really liked this book a lot. I like reading short, simple biographies sometimes. For that purpose, it's definitely very good. Also, it allows you the chance to see which ones you're interested, sot hat you can go read more about them rather than all of them.
In addition, one advantage of the book was it's suitable foe a smaller age group around 10 years old too. The graphics are very nice, and the writing is enjoyable.
I would definitely recommend it.

I loved the idea behind this book. I really liked the connections made between the different woman in history and time.
However, overall to me it doesn't stand out as an adult book. The biographies were 'bite size' and quite simple. I'd love to read a bit more about those important women.
Still, I would buy this book to anyone over 8-10 years old. I like the idea, I like the graphics and overall this is a short and very enjoyable read.

A whimsically illustrated book of badass women. The influence of powerful women to each other was thought provoking. Included are profiles on women such as Hedy Lamarr, Josephine Baker, Michelle Obama, and Virginia Woolf. It would make a cute graduation gift.

3.5 Stars.

I really liked the way this book was organized (each subject was connected in someway to the subject preceding her), although some of the connections between subjects were stretches. The interesting way of organizing the book was definitely the stand-out feature. The profiles were short and really only provided brief overviews of each woman's life. I think this book would be enjoyed most by preteens who aren't looking for as much in depth information - I know I would've loved it when I was 10/11.
