I have read a couple of the Alfie books and they are all fun, but there are some great themes and messages. They do not have to be read in order. The stories are set on Edgar Road and star the pets in the community. Alfie calls himself a doorstep cat, he has one main owner, but also visits and stays with others at times. He is the leader of the little group. In this story a woman and her daughter move in with their cat HaNa. There is a divorce and they have returned from Japan. The cats will do what they can to make to them feel welcome. There is also a man that lives in an older, dreary home, who wants everyone to just leave him alone. There is a death and grief plays a large part in the story.

Alfie and his "son" George live happily on Edgar street with his family, who welcome the new family to the neighbourhood. His boy develops feelings toward the new girl, and George becomes smitten with her cat. Everyone is not happy about this new relationship, and it get to the point where they make a scary decision. Meanwhile Alfie's "wife" and George's "mother" is nearing the end of her life and it was sad to see this end of life story and the grief that George and Alfie feel. George "befriends" the crotchety neighbour at the end of the street and it is there that Alfie finds him to talk. They are there when needed. These stories are populated with wonderful pets that affect the lives of their owners and friends in various ways. This one ties everything up by Christmas and is a great family story. Themes include death, grief, young love, community, health issues and family.

Alfie's a cat who thinks he is a human! He worries about people and wants to keep everyone together in a big happy family, he is concerned that his new neighbours do not appear to be happy and that their cat is an indoor cat.... and he needs to do something about it! A lovely whimsical story for cat lovers.

I haven't actually read the other books in the series. I found it easy enough to get into, but probably would have been better if I had. First of all, due to the contents of this book its not something a young child would enjoy. Its definitely one for the cat lovers. Alfie & George are wonderful characters. This book deals with some very serious things. Such as divorce and death. Keep the tissues handy you might need them. An enjoyable read although it did drag on in a few places.

I really should leave the review as stating - a must for all cat lovers - especially from the animals POV. I'll simply add, fun and thrilling. I shall source the others now.

I absolutely loved this book. Such a touching story for a Christmas read. Following the story of Alfie, although I understand this is a book from a series, I read as stand alone and thoroughly enjoyed.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book!

This was my first Alfie book, although I have heard of them previous to getting the approval. I knew they were animal fiction, but I wasn't sure what age they were geared towards. I felt like the writing was too immature in places, giving the book a very childish feel (not that there is anything wrong with childish) but then it swung into serious territory, talking about death and it all ending up feeling very confused for me. Maybe I wouldn't mind so much had I read the previous books, but I usually prode myself on being able to read anything without a problem.

I did enjoy parts of this, but ultimately it felt flat and awkward. Three stars.

I'm a big cat person and Alfie stole my heart. I'm excited about reading the first book about Alfie and his family. Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this adorable look at how aminals look at people.

This is a whimsical book which sensitively explores topics such as human and feline friendship, family and loss - through the viewpoint of the cat narrator. This book is one to snuggle up and read as a family if you have younger readers, because some scenes in the novel are quite intense and may upset younger readers.

Alfie in the Snow

Alfie the Cat Series - Book 5

By Rachel Wells

Avon - October 2018

Fiction

Changes were coming to Edgar Road, and of course, Alfie was a cat up to the task of overcoming any challenges that might be coming their way. First, a new family moved in. A woman, daughter and cat. The mother, Sylvie, her daughter, Connie, and their cat Hana had lived in Japan, apparently somewhere far away, until recently. To Alfie, Hana was an unusual cat, she was an indoor cat. As in didn't come outside. It sounded very lonely to Alfie, and he was determined that he and his adopted son George would become friends with Hana, and find a way for her to come outside. Plus, he wanted to bring happiness to Sylvie and Connie as they seemed sad.

He knew that having Sylvie, Connie and Hana join his family was the best way to accomplish this. After all, he had a paw in bringing together his extended family. They all became good friends who chose to be family. Just like him and Tiger, his girlfriend, with George. They had chosen to have George be their son. But Tiger was tired lately, and not feeling well. She had even had to visit the vet. He was worried for her, but she said that she was fine.

And he had even more worries. George was stretching his independence. Alfie was proud of his schemes and their success, but now the kids in their family appeared to be having their own schemes. Some good, some he needed to figure out how to thwart. Oh well, Alfie knew he, George and his friends were up to the tasks.

Alfie In The Snow was a sweet, poignant story of families, and of course cats. I enjoyed watching as the families try to help Sylvie and Connie, but Sylvie is mired in her own pain, and unfortunately everyone else receives the brunt of her anger, particularly Connie. Especially when she learns that Connie is seeing someone. I enjoyed watching Alfie plan and plot, as well as him interact with the other neighborhood cats. Alfie In The Snow may not always be laughter and smiles, but it is always heart, friends and love.

I love the Alfie books. They are even better with the addition of Alfie's kitten, George, in the last three books. After finding himself homeless, Alfie wasn't content with just having one family, he had to bring everyone he loves into a giant extended family. As always, Alfie tries to take care of his families and make sure all of their relationships go smoothly. Alfie gets some new neighbors in this one and instantly plots to make them a part of his extended family. He also learns that George is trying to befriend the mean man down the street. Alfie really struggles in this one, trying to keep his families together while also dealing with a great loss. He also has to teach George how to grieve. This book is both sad and heartwarming. I would like to think that every cat was as smart and as able to understand their humans as Alfie.

Alfie in the Snow was a great book. Life through the eyes of a feline trio, Alfie, Tiger and George.
A few laugh out loud moments that I could relate to my three fur babies. A fab read.

I always like to have a book that is a bit lighter than the psychological thriller/crime books I mostly read. Alfie in the Snow was one I picked that I could pick up & put down whenever I need a break. However that isn't to say that it is a lesser book than the others.

I hadn't read any of the previous 'Alfie' books but that didn't spoil my enjoyment. I soon felt at home with all the animals & humans that pepper the story. It is a nice quite gentle read that has a lot to say about friendship, grief & loneliness that is relevant whether you are a human or a cat!

I enjoyed it & would like to thank Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

I love cats and I love Christmas so for me this book was perfect!
This Alfie story features young romance, new residents to Edgar Road, a tragedy and Christmas all from the point of view of a cat.
The characters were well written and the storyline was engaging. This was the first Alfie book I’ve read but I will definitely be looking out for further books.
Thanks for letting me read this beautiful book.
