This is a good modern fiction story. I actually enjoyed the story better than I thought. It's lovely festive book with old and new friends, with s sprinkle of romance.

This book was a quick read about a woman who proposes to her boyfriend live on tv. The boyfriend is a complete jerk and though she's better off without him, she takes off. I'm pretty sure I've seen a similar storyline on tv before but it was a short quick read.

I’ve been craving Hallmark movies—nearly impossible to get legally in the UK—like crazy this December, so it’s only fitting that I round out the 12 Days of Christmas Reads with a rom com worthy of everyone’s favorite Christmas channel.

So here’s the deal. You’ve read elements of this book before, and that’s a good thing. Is Roxy too good for a guy she spends too much time pining after? Who hasn’t been there? Did I spend most of my time pointing at Alex and yelling, “HIM! PICK HIM!?” Yes. Was I here for it when those two crazy kids finally got together for their happily ever after? Absolutely.

There is comfort in knowing that there are certain beats these stories are going to hit. The parts that’s most interesting to me it watching genre authors fill in around the tropes with secondary characters you love, B-plots that pull you along, and quippy conversation between our hero and heroine. All in all, I was happy to sink into Second Chances at the Log Fire Cabin for a little bit and stay for the Christmas cheer, shameless baking porn, and hot Anglo-Australian guy.

Jackson had told Roxy that she could move in with him and so when feeling loved up...... and after maybe one out two to many drinks....... she decides to propose to him on life TV she is mortified when he turns her down! Needing to escape she is offered job at the Log Fire Cabin and jumps at the chance..... but what is Jackson doing turning up there with his new girlfriend!

As usual a lovely story from this author, you know you are going to end up with that nice warm feeling inside when you finish it and there will be lots of lovely characters..... apart from Jackson of course! Good festive book

To be honest, I have to say this book is much more than I expected. What I liked most about it was that most of the plot is setting in a same place. I would like to highlight there are many stories crossing in this place and I think it gives agility to the reading. Although, it is so fun at the beginning, it has its drama too, so this book iis very complete. When I started reading it, I didn’t know this book is a sequel, so this is a good point I would like to remark, because you don’t need to read the first one to enjoy this.

All starts when Roxy and her boyfriend go as spectators to a television show, and she is exalted by the excitement that Jackson has asked her to go live with him. With the very good help of a few cocktails before going on set. , he asks his Mr.Perfect for marriage in front of the cameras. After a few seconds of anguished silence in the studio, Jackson says: "Er ..., no?" Roxy Only can see her future totally dark, without work, without a home. The only thing she has left is an ex who in less than a week has replaced her with another girl. To forget the sorrows, Roxy goes to the supermarket in search of chocolate, is the only thing that can encourage her in these hard times. In the corridor of flours, she will meet Poppy, who will offer her an opportunity to work with her this Christmas as a pastry chef at her catering company. Roxy accepts, there's only one small problem, and it is that she does not know how to cook ...

I love this author’s writing style and I was delighted to see that she had a new book out and read it within a few days of it landing on my Kindle – and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it!!

I loved the characters and the plot line was great. The setting for the story was perfect and I have to say that I think the book’s cover is gorgeous too!

This is the second book in the series and whilst I think that the first one was a bit stronger, this is certainly a good read and I think it is fine to read as a stand alone, but if you do get an opportunity I would read them in order as the first one is completely delightful!

Four stars from me, a really enjoyable story!

Just finished and I quickly had to get this recommendation written. Fantastic. Just as good as the last years “Christmas at the Log Fire Cabin: a heartwarming and feel-good read”. A book you can’t put down. Great fun characters, wonderful location and cute plots. If you haven’t read, pick it up, even if it isn’t Christmas.

Roxy makes an embarrassing faux pas by proposing to her boyfriend on live TV, while drunk, and gets turned down. Which, frankly, was doing her a favor because they hadn't been dating long and he was a jerk. A chance encounter nets her a job as an assistant in someone's catering company, so she heads off to the Fire Log Cabin in order to attempt to hide her utter lack of cooking skills (so how did she get hired???). She meets a lot of colorful characters from the previous books of this series, along with a new love interest, but then her old boyfriend shows up at the event she's helping cater so she mopes over him for a while before everything gets abruptly resolved in the last few pages.

If you can't tell by that summary, I did not really get along with this book. It had a brand of "let's laugh at the hapless fool" comedy that just makes me cringe instead, and Roxy's comedy of errors and self-pity was painful. A lot of it was perfectly understandable in isolation, but the unrelenting nature of her inner problems was just exhausting and tedious after a while. (Or, well, it really didn't take long, actually.) A lot of the middle of the book was repetitive and fan service cameos for previous characters, and the resolution was too rushed to be satisfying.

Second Chances at the Log Fire Cabin is a fabulous festive read. I really enjoyed it.

A story of friendship, romance, misunderstandings, new beginnings and love. A lovely heartwarming and uplifting Christmassy story, with well written characters who I found engaging and a gorgeous winter wonderland setting. A book for a quiet cosy afternoon snuggled up on the settee with a hot chocolate.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Somehow, from the very first chapter, I just did not connect with this book or the characters. I’m not critical of the author, as it’s obvious she’s a good writer. This just wasn’t the story for me.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

What a book! I loved all the characters and how they all made sense together in the end. The setting was picturesque and the plot was fun. This is a perfect Christmas book.

After Roxy's boyfriend rejects her drunken marriage proposal on live TV she faces the festive season alone. A chance meeting with Poppy lead to her agreeing to help out cater for a christmas event. A great plan - until it turns out her ex is one of the guest at the cabin over christmas. She needs to face him and his new girlfriend, but at least there is Alex to distract her. The longer she spends with Jackson the more she realises that she doesn't actually want a second chance with him. A great set of chracters and I hope there are more books in this series.

Roxy has, after a few months dating Jackson, allowed her nerves and a few too many cocktails to take control, and proposed to Jackson as they were sitting in the audience at a television show taping. Her drunken slurring is compounded by his deer in the headlights look and a firm no, leaving her depressed, not only is she without a boyfriend but she’s out of work and now hiding in the house because it feels like everyone saw her get turned down on television. But a chance encounter with a frantic woman in the grocery store leads to a short-term job, helping out Poppy with her start-up catering company baking treats for a pop-up ice rink and preparing meals for her boyfriend’s small B & B. Wiling to help and utterly unwilling to tell the truth and disappoint a stranger, Roxy claims more experience than she has and is soon googling baking tips and tricks before starting the next day. And the rest of the book is pretty much Roxy finding some opportunity to try something new, unwilling to try or be honest with her lack of experience, and then bumbling through to mixed results.

See Roxy has a secret – scarred by a fire just after leaving school, and subsequently being left for another by her boyfriend – tragic and made worse by her desperate need to appease all she encounters, with self-esteem that is so low as to be negligible, Roxy never really utters a sentence that isn’t ‘qualified’ by a comparison to someone or something else. Then, of course, her ex shows up with his ‘new girlfriend’ and even as she HEARS him uttering the same lines (tired and unimaginative) to the new girl, she can’t help but wonder if he’s interested in her… Yeah. Roxy was a throw the eReader across the room, repeatedly, sort of character. I kept reading, HOPING that somewhere this girl would pick up a six-pack of get a clue and see what an ass her ex is, and to stop sending EVERYONE mixed messages, but even up to the last pages, she wasn’t finding her clue. I was tired of her lack of awareness, and her inability to see herself in even the smallest of positive ways. Quite simply, in this story full of 30-somethings, it was a 17 year old girl who spoke the most (and almost only) sense in the story.

But still, I read on, hoping that something would finally dawn on Roxy and she’d see what was in front of her. And that came, in painstakingly slow and miniscule bits, with plenty of the sense that I’d been here before, and when the ending arrived, and most of the ends wrapped up in a few quick paragraphs – I was ultimately disappointed. I think readers who loved the first book in this series may find positives, and the setting and concept were lovely, but the story didn’t hold up for me as one that encourages my curiosity about this author.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

I have been a fan of Catherine’s for quite a while now. I love her books and I eagerly await for each new book to be released. When she releases a book, I clear the decks and make reading it my next priority. I couldn’t wait to get hold of a copy of ‘Second Chances At The Log Fire Cabin’. Well I need wait no longer because the book was released on 15th October 2018. I dived in as soon as I could. Boy oh boy it was one hell of a read. I absolutely LOVED it but more about that in a bit.
I couldn’t help but take to the character of Roxy and I began to think of her as a friend. She thinks that her life is tootling along at a nice and gentle pace. She lives with her friend although Roxy is unemployed at the beginning of the book. Money is tight and Roxy hates feeling like a charity case, so she decides that she needs move out of the shared flat and it looks as though she will have to go back to live with her parents but at the last minute Jackson, her boyfriend, tells her that she can move in with him. Roxy is in love and she hopes that Jackson’s invite is a sign of his commitment to her. Uh oh. Roxy is all loved up and in a blissful state. She proposes to Jackson on live TV but he says no. Oh the embarrassment. I really felt for Roxy and if I could have jumped inside the pages of the book to give her a hug then I would have done. Roxy is mortified at what happens and she takes a job at the Log Fire cabin. She hopes that her heart will have long enough to heal and she will be able to bring in some pennies. That’s fine and dandy but then Jackson and his new girlfriend turn up at the cabin and I was rather suspicious of his motives. The rat that he is!! Roxy sounds lovely, she is kind, gentle, understanding, she loves a laugh and she will always be there for her when or if you need her. My only teensy problem with her is that she is a bit of a doormat. Will Roxy succumb to Jackson’s dubious charms or will she follow her head and not get involved with him again?
‘Second Chances At The Log Fire Cabin’ is one of those enchanting reads that is perfect for curling up in front of the fire with to escape the nasty weather outside. I was hooked on the story from the moment I picked up the book and began to read. As I felt so drawn to the character of Roxy and I warmed to her so well, I just had to keep reading on and on to see what fate had in store for her. The more I read, the more I wanted to read and the quicker the pages were turning. At one point the pages were turning that quickly that the book became a blur. I was keeping everything crossed and just hoped that she got the happy ending that she deserved. It seemed to take next to no time at all for me to get through the book but in reality a few hours had passed by. Time seemed to stand still as it were. I was enjoying the book, the storylines and the characters so much that I didn’t want the book to end.
When you pick up one of Catherine’s books, you just know that you are in for one hell of a read and so it proved for me with this one. For me, there’s a bit of everything within the pages of ‘Second Chances At The Log Fire Cabin’. By that I mean that there is lots of drama, humour, seriousness and romance. Reading this book was an emotional read for me. There were times when I felt a lump in my throat and there were other times when I could have quite cheerfully leapt inside the pages of the book to remonstrate with certain characters (yes Jackson that means you!!) for how they were treating others or for what they said. Before anybody reminds me that this book is a work of fiction, I found that the writing was so realistic and so convincing that I began to ‘live’ the story as if I was a character within the book.
In short , Catherine surely has another best seller on her hands with ‘Second Chances At The Log Fire Cabin’ and I absolutely adored it!!! I can’t wait to read what the author comes up with next. Here’s hoping that I don’t have too long to wait. I definitely recommend that you pick up one of Catherine Ferguson’s books just as soon as you can. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.
