Enjoyable and a fun read!

The story caught my eye from the moment I read the blurb, and I just knew I wanted to read this book. I was not let down and can recommend this to everyone!

We are introduced to Holly who is being interviewed to become a spy, all her studies seem to have payed off until the last hurdle where she fails!!

Holly moves on and marries Zak. She is approached by the woman who interviewed her for the spy job and asks her to spy on someone close to her. This drastically changes the course of her life causing Holly to pack up and flee.

Holly now called Helen is working at the hospital when she meets Eliza and her daughter Alice. Is someone spying on her?

A riveting book with twists and turns that will keep you guessing. The different timelines are easy to follow. I thoroughly recommend this book.

Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. Wow. I loved this book. Kendal took a common storyline in domestic thrillers (an abusive partner) but turned it into something completely fresh, unexpected and interesting. The plot was gripping, and I liked Holly a lot, and the twists and turns kept coming. The ending was unexpected, and leaves me with questions and uncertainties (not necessarily a bad thing!) which kept me thinking - it wasn't entirely neatly wrapped up. I loved this book and would definitely be interested in reading more from this author.

I really liked this book! It was a blinder, and I even stayed up late to finish it.

The protaginist, Holly, has started a new life to escape her past. Her ambitions of being a spy well and truly down trodden. But everything is not OK in Holly's new life, and as the past catches up to her, the lines between her two lives start to blur. The split timelines worked really well for me and I was drawn to the characters, who were complex, real and flawed. No one is what they seem.

I didn't love the ending, I was left with so many questions that I wonder if there'll be a sequel, although it would be really hard. I get life is not always neatly wrapped up for us in a blanket, but some of those questions answered would have appeased me a bit more. What happens when you only get half of the story? Does it change everything? Maybe this question is a mirror for the book itself....

I raced through I Spy, it's a great book. I was a little unsure at first as it jumps through Holly's timeline a lot but it didn't take long to get into, then I couldn't put it down.

I thoroughly enjoyed Claire Kendal’s The Second Sister, and was looking very much forward to her latest offering. I was not disappointed!

This is an exceptionally well written, multifaceted read that will keep you turning the pages from the start. Additionally it skirts the edges of some very tough subjects, but handles them with the care and forethought that they deserve to be handled with.

I really enjoyed the use of the two primary timelines to portray a rather complex storyline, although not once was it confusing or misleading. I do also need to make reference to the ending. It couldn’t have hoped for a better conclusion. It was left sufficiently open to allow the reader to ponder on choices made, and possible future outcomes. I also can’t help but to draw one parallel to The Second Sister in that once again I am saddened yet empowered by the depth of personal sacrifice the protagonist is willing to undertake for a cause she believes in.

All in all another great read!

This is a good solid read that I did enjoy. The shifting timeline worked well and was well constructed (often they are not and confuse me!). Creepy and suspenseful, what’s not to like!

This cleverly constructed text introduces us to Holly Lawrence and details her early life and her ambition to become a spy. On this she was extremely focused and based her studies and plans on what she believed would set her on the path to achieve this ambition. However, just at the stage when she seems near to achieving her goal she fails.

Life goes on and changes occur and Holly marries but her past catches up and the woman who interviewed her for the ‘spy job’ comes back into her life with devastating consequences. Holly must hide and she changes her name and escapes. In this new life she encounters a young mother with a two year old daughter and Helen/Holly uses her skills as a spy – or is she spied upon?

A well-constructed plot with compelling twists and turns with characters that will keep you guessing. Thoroughly enjoyable and intriguing. I heartily recommend it.
