I thoroughly enjoyed Claire Kendal’s The Second Sister, and was looking very much forward to her latest offering. I was not disappointed!

This is an exceptionally well written, multifaceted read that will keep you turning the pages from the start. Additionally it skirts the edges of some very tough subjects, but handles them with the care and forethought that they deserve to be handled with.

I really enjoyed the use of the two primary timelines to portray a rather complex storyline, although not once was it confusing or misleading. I do also need to make reference to the ending. It couldn’t have hoped for a better conclusion. It was left sufficiently open to allow the reader to ponder on choices made, and possible future outcomes. I also can’t help but to draw one parallel to The Second Sister in that once again I am saddened yet empowered by the depth of personal sacrifice the protagonist is willing to undertake for a cause she believes in.

All in all another great read!
Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for a review copy.

This is a good solid read that I did enjoy. The shifting timeline worked well and was well constructed (often they are not and confuse me!). Creepy and suspenseful, what’s not to like!

This cleverly constructed text introduces us to Holly Lawrence and details her early life and her ambition to become a spy. On this she was extremely focused and based her studies and plans on what she believed would set her on the path to achieve this ambition. However, just at the stage when she seems near to achieving her goal she fails.

Life goes on and changes occur and Holly marries but her past catches up and the woman who interviewed her for the ‘spy job’ comes back into her life with devastating consequences. Holly must hide and she changes her name and escapes. In this new life she encounters a young mother with a two year old daughter and Helen/Holly uses her skills as a spy – or is she spied upon?

A well-constructed plot with compelling twists and turns with characters that will keep you guessing. Thoroughly enjoyable and intriguing. I heartily recommend it.

Thank you to the author, publishers and NetGalley for providing an ARC via my Kindle in return for an honest review.

My thanks to Netgalley for my copy of this book which provided a totally satisfying read. The narrative is contained within two timelines which fortunately are delivered well and led to no confusion.

This is a psychological thriller with many more facets than the actual main plot, all of which are very well handled. I Spy is as full of intrigue and suspense as you could wish for.

Personally I was slightly disappointed with the conclusion but to explain why would divulge a spoiler and of course, you can't please all of the people all of the time. Overall a good book which I would recommend to any reader who enjoys this genre.

Darkly chilling and thoroughly enjoyable, I Spy is another hit for Claire Kendal! In I Spy we meet Holly, a woman on a mission to become a secret agent who falls at the final hurdle. The story is told through interweaving narrative of before and after, and it's never really clear just where the plot is going... in all the best ways. My heart was in my throat in the final chapters, a must-read psychological thriller this summer.
