Mmmmm!! This is a feast for the soul, full of hearty, healthy dishes and easy to follow instructions.
As a very occasional meat eater, having spent 9 years a vegetarian, I often lean towards meat free meals, and found plenty of recipes in this book to suit me. There are plenty of plant based meals in the book, so those just starting out as vegans or vegetarians will appreciate the help.
The key to Good Food Gratitude is health without sacrificing taste. For me this means eating as naturally as possible, without processed junk food our mental health is much stronger and our mood improves immensely, as well as the obvious physical benefit as our body is nourished.

As part of my 2020 resolution to live more naturally - meaning more fresh cooking from scratch and home grown herbs, as well as eating what is in season to do good for myself and the planet, this little guide will be by my side!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I can never have enough vegan cookbooks in my life! And it's so important for me to have colored photographs of most of the food in the book. I'm happy this book has so many pictures included.

I appreciate even basic recipes, especially as I was someone who had to google how to make the most basic things. Still. I won't be making quite a few of these recipes. I think this would be a good book to try to get from the library. I was sad it was only available in hardcover for $35 from amazon.

Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of Good Food Gratitude in exchange for an honest review.

I was excited to receive an advanced copy of Hollan Hawaii's new cookbook since she is a cordon bleu trained vegan chef. I am always looking for new and healthy recipes to add to my collection. She does focus on vegan recipes with simple and easy to follow instructions. The recipes use a lot of island inspired fare, however "healthy" may differ from others perspective. There is a lot of brown rice and sugar in the recipes. Some options sound intriguing and others are a bit basic (adding lemon to water). The pictures are pretty but a few too many of the author in her bikini hanging out with friends. It was too gimmicky of a cookbook for my liking.

I missed the date to download. I thought i had another month. Sorry, I find it more difficult to download books that aren't on Kindle

Beautiful presentation and photos, and great guide to making your own milk, but the recipes themselves didn't feel new to me.
There are many variations of meat recipes, which may be helpful to people who need something they know, but in my opinion isn't necessary. If I don't eat bacon, I don't need something called a BLT.
There are photos with each dish, which is great and appealing, but overall there is also a lot about the author, which distracts from the food.

Beautiful book! The layout / graphics / and photos are stunning. Even if you’re not vegan (like myself) you will enjoy this book.

This is a seriously pretty book. The pictures are absolutely gorgeous. The pictures of the food were were extremely well done. A visually stunning book.

The recipes were tasty, simple, and contained easily obtained ingredients. I especially liked her recipe for Curry No Chicken salad.

I think this would be a great gift for someone thinking about becoming a vegan. It is an excellent starter book for someone unfamiliar with the vegan lifestyle. Many of the vegan chef cookbooks are intimidating for a new vegan. This one is a perfect fit for someone trying to reduce or eliminate animal products from their diet.

I liked this book.

Good Food Gratitude by Hollan Hawaii is a vegan lifestyle book that is as much about Hawaii's journey as it is about preparing food. There is a strong connection between the two which keeps this from being misleading, it just happened to be more lifestyle book than I wanted.

What drew me to the book was the idea of simple but good and healthy recipes. It delivered on that point and if there had been more recipes and cooking tips and less personal journey and photo ops I would have liked the book much better.

Like some have mentioned, the images were not very sharp, but I think that was due to the copy being a digital review copy, not a final digital copy or a physical copy. Unless a verified purchase claims the images are grainy or fuzzy I wouldn't worry about that. Also, the book emphasizes in the blurb that these are simple recipes for a busy but healthy lifestyle, so complaining about simple recipes seems disingenuous, or something worse. I have plenty of cookbooks that have involved and intricate recipes. I didn't need another one. So the simplicity, in addition to being what was promised, was what I wanted.

As I mentioned, there was just too much stuff I didn't care about. Well, that might not be a fair way to say it. I care about a person's journey and what they have done and what they currently do. but at a certain point I have all the extra information I need. I reached that point well before the bulk of the recipes even made an appearance.

Ultimately, I would still recommend this to someone wanting simple plant-based recipes. I would recommend much more highly to someone wanting a lifestyle book which includes simple recipes.

I wavered between 2 and 3 stars for this vegan cookbook but settled on 2 because Goodreads says 2 stars represents "it was okay" and that was pretty much my take on it. This is a big cookbook full of photos, but many of the photos are of the author and the recipe photos seemed grainy on my PDF ARC.

On the plus side, most of the recipes are quite simple. Some reviewers here and on Amazon have complained that they're often too simple (one recipe is for a smoothie of frozen bananas and nondairy milk) but I don't mind that. Some of my family's favorite recipes are quite simple with few ingredients, and busy parents especially can appreciate simple but tasty recipes. That said, I would prefer a little more flavor and interest. There are color photos for every recipe, another plus. Many of the recipes are gluten free, and there's a focus on health (though some recipes are not particularly healthy, with large amounts of sugar and such). The author seems to genuinely care about the environment, animals, and other good causes.

The downsides? For one, this feels an awful lot like a vanity cookbook. The publisher is one that seems to provide this kind of service. I really don't know why we need this many photographs of the author and her dinner parties and such. The layout is a little garish for me, very Hawaiian themed but not necessarily in a good way. At times the book seemed more like a scrapbook. I'm also not sure how well some of these recipes will work. It looks like the author has shared them online and some were in her restaurant (which mainly has very good reviews), which is encouraging. But as a GF baker, I almost never bake with all brown rice flour since baked goods tend to be rather horrid with it and she has recipes for things like banana bread and brownies that just call for that (with xanthan gum) and no other starches to lighten the texture up. I'll update this review if I try them, but I'm a little wary to waste the ingredients in case it doesn't turn out well. I also just wasn't particularly inspired by many of the recipes, though there were a few that did intrigue me.

This might be a good book to check out from the library if yours carries it. With the $35 price tag, I am not sure I'd recommend purchasing it without previewing it to see if it's a good fit for you.

I read a digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

This was a decidedly interesting book - it started off with a tonne of pictures that made me think ... oh, NO this girl is one of those "Blessed Social Influencer Millennials"!!!!

This is a vegan cookbook that starts off with pages and pages of people/Instagrammers/influencers praising her work which means, to me, that it is either a great book or the author is looking for approval. I am unsure as we ARE living in a world where kids get trophies for showing up...

I, unfortunately, do not have access to a garden in Hawaii to eat from nor do I need a recipe for water+lemons that probably came from her beautiful back yard and were picked with her in a bikini. I am sure that she put a lot of work into it, but it is nothing that I have not read before or will read in the future.

The recipes were well written and can easily have cheese, meat, fish and other animal products to it for flexitarians.

This review is also referenced on my sister's facebook page ... I did not read her review before I read the book, so I may agree with her or I may not. Would I spend $35USD/ $50 USD for this book? No. But you may like it.

This is a beautiful gift to receive it a printed format with much stunning photography. In my opinion it is more a 'coffee table' cookery book than one which I would use. There are many pages of photographs (often lacking in other books but you need a balance) and quite a bit about healthy lifestyle and the author herself which personally I did not need to know but I appreciate that others might enjoy this. The recipes are not for your average cook with ingredients which would often have to be sort out rather than picked up on the supermarket run. All this does not mean that it is not a lovely book but not one for me.

As a vegan this book is right up my street. I love the positive vibes, bright colours and the overall beauty of this book. The vegan receipts are making and I can’t wait to buy a hard copy when the book is published... this books makes me feel happy just looking at the wonderful, pictures and carefree lifestyle. Thanks for the arc.

Interesting book with a combination of recipes, information and lifestyle pictures. The recipes were a bit disappointing, some were a bit silly, but were suited to a tropical island. The pictures were staged and perfected (glossy magazine type). The information would definitely not suit all vegans and was quite preachy to the style of the author. Overall a good coffee table book with photographs staged in the beautiful Hawaii setting, but the recipes were not the best.

Good Food Gratitude is a vegan cookbook. It has a beautiful design and colorful photographs. Inside you will find a lot of delicious-looking recipes. Some of those are easy to prepare. I liked some recipes with cauliflower that I have to try.

I like that every recipe contains information about cooking time and a photo of a prepared meal. I also like info about GF (gluten-free), NF (nut-free), SF (soy-free) and sometimes the alternative how you can make it GF, NF or SF.

Thank you for this opportunity to read this book!
