I couldn't finish it. Starting off in Portland and then taking us to another planet was just too out of reach for me. The book was slow and I lost interest.

This book is three episodes rolled into one complete book.

The premise is extremely intriguing, but I constantly felt like the author was holding my hand throughout the book. But all in all this book was fast paced and action packed. I can definitely do with more of this.

I would especially like to thank FoxTales Press and the Netgalley website for allowing me to read this complete trilogy.

It features the main heroine who wakes up one day with no memory of who she is. Nobody knows anything about her, the police even investigated her for months on end, but never found anything. The only object found on her was a necklace with Angela Starr on it.

She has an ID card thanks to the government and will be able to go to school to try to get her GED. Everybody thinks she's going to be an adult soon. And she's going to meet a boy she thinks she knows and they're going to get chased through a portal that's going to take them to the other side of the universe. She's going to get to know this famous planet that will seem familiar to her.

A trilogy read in one go, so much so that I hooked on the story, which is so gripping, addictive, captivating, full of suspense and twists and turns with very endearing characters. Can't wait to read this trilogy in paperback.

I appreciated that all the series has been put into one book so I was able to read it in one file. The characters were great and I really enjoyed reading this.

Unfortunately I DNF'd this book. It just wasn't for me and I couldn't get into it, The story premise seemed great but sadly the book did not live up to the hype of the blurb

Starr wakes up without knowing who she is or where she comes from. When she enrolls in school she meets Emmerich and instantly feels like she knows him. I like that with this box collection getting all three books in the series. There is no waiting for the next book, you just can read on. I enjoyed Starr's story a lot and will definitely check out more books by this author.

I received a copy of this book  fair and honest review. This is a set of novellas and they are a very short read. I think a little took short. They started out amazing and going from Oregon and then off to another planet. She wakes up with no memories and she trying to go to community college. She goes the planet and things seem familiar to her and she is trying to figure out why. This is something she has to figure out. I enjoyed it but I had wished it was a little bit longer.

A year ago I had woken up with no memory of who I was. No one seemed to know anything about me and for months the police investigated only to find nothing. The only thing I had was a necklace with the name Angela Starr. The government gave me an ID with that name and let me enroll in a community college to get my GED. All the psychologists that they had examine me thought that would be best and going to school might jog some memories since they figured I was in my late teens. Well, it did, as I ran into a boy my age that I felt I knew, but before I could fully recover those memories, we found ourselves being chased into a portal that led to the other side of the universe. But why did this other planet seem so familiar?
This was an ok story. The beginning was promising, but then it seemed too much was put in and then rushed. It just wasn’t for me.

Dani Hoots in an indie publisher (Fox Tales Press) who writes science fiction, fantasy and romance for the YA reader. She specializes in series, such as Daughter of Hades, A world of Vampires , and the Wonderland Chronicles. A Falling Starr was originally published in 2014. The 2020 ed. is a reissue.

This trilogy is more like the combination of three novellas. The total page count for the work is 121 pages.
Book 1 (Forgotten) is set in Portland OR. The lead character, Angela Starr, suffers from amnesia. She feels disconnected from this world. She is now entering Portland Community College. Her support group feel she is ready to integrate into society. However, she feels she is under observation. Is it
Emmerich, a young man who she feels she should know? One who even smells delightfully familiar? Or is it the two men in black who seem to be more menacing. And, if she has chosen to live in Portland, why does she hate the rain? The book ends on a cliff hanger.. Should she trust Emmerich?

Book 2 (Found) Angela finds herself galaxies away from earth, nauseous, wearing her kitten covered pajamas. Emmerich has transported her to an earth like environment. Not planet earth, there are two moons in the sky. Still experiencing amnesia, Angela is following Emmerich's lead.
She is in Capital City, on the planet Cartref, in a galaxy far far away... Theoretical physics slides in briefly, however hand waving seems to suit the action just as well. Emmerich has taken her to the rebel camp. Will her questions be answered? The situation is dangerous, war is on the horizon. What is expected of her? The book ends with the "Big Bad" in charge.

Book 3 (Free) The final novella increases the tension as rival factions battle for control of Cartref.
Hoot creates a charming alternate society. The Galaftns, an aquatic based people. The struggle is real, the outcome uncertain. Sorry no spoilers ahead.

Clearly written for YA audience, the work could also serve as an ESL (English as a Second Language) book. The only drawback is the trilogy was not revised when it was reissued. Cultural references now seem a bit dated. Hoot does prove herself to be a good writer. One hopes for more to come.

Full disclosure I received this edition as an ARC from netgalley and Fox Tales Press in exchange for an unbiased review. Thank you for this opportunity.

I had to remove two stars from my rating for a few reasons. I enjoyed the series, but it could have been longer. The end seemed especially rushed. In a few places the main character says "would of" when she should have said "would have". While it could be a person misspeaking, it was distracting and did not further the story. Speaking of the main character, is her name Angel or Angela? She is referred to by both names, so this is not clear. There are a few other minor issues with poor grammar, such as commas where there should have been periods. Lastly, the book ends in a cliche, and that's always annoying.

Thank you to the Publisher and Netgalley for providing me the ebook for an honest opinion.

This book is a combination of 3 short stories. It's about a girl who wakes up one day and finds that she doesnt remember anything about her past self, even her name. She has a necklace around her on which there is a name etched which then becomes her name. It's been a year since she was found and she still has no clue who she is or where she came from. She goes to college, works saves up and tries to have a normal life. But she still feels like a stranger.
She meets a boy and the more she has contact with him the more she feels that she knows him and has seen him before and that they have a bond.

Turns out she is a pretty important person who isnt even from Earth but another planet.

Considering that this was like a collection of short stories it's really good. But I conveniently forgot to check the number of pages and read it like a novel. Which was disappointing because everything felt rushed, there was no character development, hardly any world building. The relationships between the characters wasnt explored. Apart from the fee mentions of some of my favorite shows like Dr. Who, Grimm, vampire diaries and the others which I enjoyed a lot there isnt anything much I was attached to. There is a lot of potential for this one.

Overall I'd say good concept.. and good taste. For pizza

A Falling Star, by author Dani Hoots, is three short episodes (Forgotten, Found, Free) compiled into one story. One year ago, Angela Starr woke up in a Portland hosptial with no memory of who she was or where she came from. Since then, she's been searching for any trace of herself, only to find nothing. Wanting to move on with her life, she decides to enroll into college only to run into someone, Emmerich, she feels familiar with. Did she know him before the accident? Does he have the answers she's been desperately searching for? With strange men following her and a man who seems to know more than he is letting on, Angela Starr may finally find what she has been looking for.

Found picks up the story from Forgotten. Angela finds herself in a whole new world called Cartref with flying cars, strange people, colonies on the moons, and it all feels familiar. With her memories slowly coming back, albeit with massive headaches, will she finally be given the answer as to who she is and where she is from and what really happened to her? Or, will she find out the truth after it is too late? Angela is reunited with a boy, Elwood, who claims to be her cousin. She also learns that she was an advocator for peace with a group of mermaids called Galaftns.

Free finds Angela with her memories back, especially when it comes to Michael, the man who took everything away from her, and tried to make sure she never knew what he was up to. Angela, Elwood, and Emmerich work together in order to repair an alliance that Angela once put together with the Galaftns who were told that she was dead, and not on an unknown planet known as Earth. This is Angela being reintroduced to a world that was created by her descendants who she wants nothing to do with. This is Angela finding a bit of happiness even though the whole thing felt rushed.

Of all three parts of this story, Forgotten was the most interesting. Subsequent parts were rushed and not sussed out enough to fully enjoy the story. Oh, no worries, I liked Angela, and Emmerich, I just wish there was a bit more story. More background. More...everything!

An interesting premise, but one that the author doesn't quite pull off in terms of writing. The book read more like an outline than a proper narrative, with needless detail. The protagonist, despite being powerful, appeared to be a damsel in distress, with men around her making all the decisions for her, including choosing how much information to give her. I read about 50 per cent and then could read no more.

When I got this book in my hands, I started reading with an open mind. However, for the first few chapters I couldn't lose the feeling that I already read the story. When a friend asked me how it was, I mentioned a few things, like the overuse of the word I (comes with the pov), the added extra information, that didn't help drive the story and the way it was written, it felt more like a rambling of facts that happened, than a telling of a story. Needles to say, I wasn't enjoying it enough to lose myself in the story.

The writing and the story became more to my liking, after a while. And I felt like the author had grown during this project. The story gained speed, stuff actually happened and I was interested. The characters seemed to have gained more depth and I kept reading.

The middle part was rather long, but kept interesting, because information was revealed slowly. However the ending; to me, was a let down. I felt this was a quick rapping up of the story, and left me with that original, rather uninterested feeling.

In the end, I feel, the story idea was nice and interesting, but the author didn't deliver all that it could have been. The start of the story was far to long and did not attribute enough to the whole, while the ending was too short and felt hasty.

I love nothing more than a box set, and this one did not disappoint. This was my first read for this author and I’m excited to read more, I enjoyed the premise of the story and the storyline kept me hooked the whole time. 4.5 stars.

A Falling Starr is a YA SciFi tale of a young woman with amnesia and her journey to finding herself. This is a trilogy but reads as one story. I enjoyed watching Angela find her strength and courage to fight for what she believes in. An enjoyable escape.

So this is all 3 novellas of Fallen Starr put together in one book, and that's a good thing because it would be a crime to read these on their own.

The protagonist's amnesia is already an intriguing premise, with her only knowledge of the past being a name they found on her and an affinity for science, which of course she had no idea where it came from. Just add the mysterious atmosphere surrounding the protagonist and the people who might be following her and Bam!, hooked from the first pages.

Then Emmerich appears, a boy who our protagonist Angela feels she knows. Although, he doesn't seem to know her, even though she has vision like memories of him. And if you thought it wasn't exciting enough, just wait until they are chased and end up going into a portal to another world!

Great 1st person POV, very realistic when it comes to emotions and random thoughts, like a trip in someone's brain. Angela is a bit too naive and a little whiny, but I guess that is understandable in her situation. The amnesia thing was done very well by the author. You feel her confusion, conflicting feelings and fear.

There are parts where it seems like the author is holding our hand, leading us through the story as if we were children. I know a lot of people will enjoy it, but some of that repetitiveness to me was a bit annoying.

There is a great lesson to be learned here of not only believing in yourself, but looking to those who believe in you, instead of those you want to bring you down. This was such an incredible, fast-paced, action-packed sci-fi adventure, but too short in my opinion. Needed more of this goodness.

So this book is three short episodes rolled into one which I'm guessing makes it a lot more affordable than buying three separate instalments. It's YA sci fi about amnesiac Angela who has no recollection of her life before the past year. She thinks in and speaks a different language but is now ready to go to college and get some qualifications so that she can earn a living and go on to have as normal a life as possible. Sadly Angela is never going to have a normal human life because on her first day in class she spots Emmerich who seems awfully familiar and then there's the two goons following her ! You see Angela isn't really from around here and she's a long way from home !
I found the first instalment very interesting but once Angela leaves Earth everything seemed rather hurried along without a lot of world building. I had an idea that she might be someone important but sadly couldn't believe in the rather obvious bad guys who play a part here. Plus for this reader her romantic relationship just felt weird but then I'm not the target age for this so will not mark it down because of that. I will however say the writing felt clunky at times particularly compared to the initial section with a rushed ending .
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
