Cabin 1 is the first in the Steele Shadows Security series. Gage, like his brothers, is a heavy drinking, womanising ex-military type. After the death of their father, they now run a private security firm with a fortress-like base hidden away on a mountain. (Although, it's not that hidden, as plenty of people seem to find them easily.) Niki is attacked in the middle of nowhere on her way home from a yoga class. When she stumbles across the Steel Security base when on the run from her attackers, Gage takes responsibility and soon finds that he is drawn to her.
The suspense side of this novel was fairly convoluted and when the person behind it was finally revealed I wasn't all that sure that it made a lot of sense. I'm afraid that the romance part of the book wasn't really that strong either. I couldn't warm to either Gage or Niki and didn't buy the chemistry between them. That's not to say that this was a bad read, it worked fairly well for the most part but just lacked that extra spark to push it towards being a great read.
I'd be interested to read more in the series to see if they get better as they go along, but I won't be in a huge rush.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A big thank you to NetGalley and HH Tisevich for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is my first time reading this author. Wow..what a ride!! Kept me on my toes...wondering. It felt a little rushed towards the end. A lot happened very fast. Ending made me sad. I give this 3.5 stars and I will definitely read the next one. It's got romance and a bit.of a mystery.

I received an advanced reader's copy of Cabin 1 (Steele Shadows Security) by Amanda McKinney from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was the first book that I have read by Amanda McKinney and I was pleasantly surprised to find an enjoyable new author to follow.

Overall, I enjoyed this novel and I found it to be well written. The primary characters' romantic start was memorable and nicely showcased their chemistry/attraction. I liked the well-crafted characters and the witty banter, plus the action moved along and kept me engrossed.

This story of survival and fighting back intrigues the reader. Niki Avery, a local attorney, is attacked and stumbles upon land of the Steele family. They own a private security firm and offer to protect her from someone clearly out to kill her. The characters are flawed but definitely likeable. Each role has a story that the reader wants to learn. I enjoyed this book immensely and can’t wait to read more.

This was a suspenseful thriller that pulled me in and kept my attention until the end. Gabe and Nicki were strong characters with great chemistry. The only thing I didn't care for was the pages of inner dialogue. Overall, it was still a great read and I would recommend it.

Cabin 1 is a terrific romantic suspense novel with a killer ending. I wasn’t aware that it was a spin off but it stands well on its own. Action, mystery and love. Well worth the read. Can’t wait for the next installment.

****SPOILERS*****

So this was my first Amanda McKinney book and I was certainly not disappointed in it! It gripped me right from the beginning, all the way to the end!
The story follows the two main characters in a dual POV. I love dual pov’s btw! 😍 Gage Steele and his brothers, all ex marines, are back home after their fathers death a year ago: inheriting his private security firm deep in the remote mountains of Berry Springs. They all deal with his death differently, Gage dealing with it by drinking and having sex with random women. Until a mysterious, battered and bruised girl trips the alarms of their estate.
Niki Avery fights to change her image after her father ruined the Avery name long ago. A workaholic and a feisty girl who makes her own way through life - determined to never have to depend on anyone but herself, gets run off the road and brutally attacked. She finds herself in the hands of Steele Shadows Security - and Gage Steele. Against everyone’s words again it and fighting their own thoughts Niki and Gage can only fight their own temptations for so long!
This book had suspense, romance, comedy, mystery! It had it all! There were a few times where I thought Amanda could have gone deeper into the mystery and played it out longer but all in all, I was very happy with this read! Gage was an interesting character... boozing and using women to his every need. But Niki and her not taking his shit put him in place and straightened him out. Now to figure out the mystery of his dads death! And his brothers....

The first book in Steele Shadow Security, Cabin 1 left me with mixed views. I enjoyed the premise of the story but struggled with some of the thought expressed. As the story progressed it and the characters became engaging and made it an overall enjoyable read

Well this book took off with a bang and never eased off on the throttle at all A suspenseful ride that had you turning the pages as fast as you could.

Niki is an assistant district attorney who is run off the road by two men she kills one in self defence but the other is chasing her into the woods What she doesn't know is that this land belongs to Steele Shadow Security A company that has recently been taken over by four ex military brothers on the death of their father. Gabe is the brother that gets to her first after the alarm sounds that there is a intruder. he is tasked with her protection until the man who escaped is apprehended. Confines together it isn't long before the attraction between them ignites but can Gabe believe her story about the attack. You will have to read to see what will happen to this pair and also the other Steele brothers

I literally cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of this series. I loved the characters and the larger story behind the story. The survival instinct as well as the compound is described beautifully and I look forward to catching up with these characters in later titles.

ARC received for review

A family that is trying to put it's self back together after the death of the father, or was it murder. The brothers sure do like to fight. I didn't really care for Gage. Niki was okay. I don't understand how the bad guy go that close to the cabin without the cameras or alarms going off. Maybe I'll like the next brother more.

On the way home from a yoga retreat, Niki Avery is run off the road and viciously attacked. Although terribly injured, she is able to get away and find her way through the woods to the Steele Shadows Security compound. Gage Steele, former marine, finds Niki and brings her to safety. Finding out what happened to her, police are called and he takes her to their secure Cabin 1. Niki has overcome a poor and abusive childhood to become a prosecuting attorney. Was her attack a random affair or was someone targeting her? Gage and his brothers are still dealing with the unexpected and suspicious death of their father who began their security company. An exciting beginning to this series with an alpha male and the strong woman who fought and won. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review.
