It was okay, but something was missing.. and it felt like that the world building was missing something... the characters were okay.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I feel for Violet in this first book in the series. She so wants to fit into the society that she was born into and being a princess in one of the nine realms. The people are all magically talented and she wants to prove herself. When her powers go off the charts she runs and hides. That is a lot for anyone to take in. She finds things from the old world and she finds there are threats to the world she knows and loves. She calls the remade city of New York her home and its a wonderful story and it leave me wanting more.

Power Divided was an amazing read. It took me a few chapters to get into the storyline but I'm so glad I stuck around, because then I kept reading and found it hard to put it down at all. I'm quite glad, that while some parts felt a bit too cliché, Behrens chose to go in a different direction as expected, especially regarding possible romances. It was so nice to read a fantasy book that didn't focus much on romances and instead tried to explain them through happening naturally, although it could be missed easily. Anyway, I enjoyed it a lot. Thank you Netgalley for providing me with this ARC.

Before you pick up this book, make sure you don't need sleep for a while! This is a wonderfully engaging novel that will keep you reading into the early hours of the morning. I honestly couldn't put it down. This is a mix of sci-fi and fantasy, where the world has moved on far into the future from where we are now and humans have evolved through genetic engineering. It is a really charming story of a girl's struggle to grow up and face both her past and future, finding her own place in the world. The world is beautifully created, with a few remnants of our own world mixed in. It is a well-paced gripping story with characters you will fall in love with.

I was totally immersed in this book. I loved the twist on our future world, with the acquisition of genetically modified powers for humans to survive. The characters were well-drawn and the plot was both compelling and appropriately paced. When I got to the end, I was really disappointed not to be able to launch myself straight into the next book! A fantastic take on the dystopian genre; very unique!

Review:
This book was so much FUN. Full of adventure, friendship, action, and the start of a sweet relationship – it was everything I wanted in a YA fantasy. What really sets it apart, however, was the imaginative world-building and rich history. Such a breath of fresh air. I’m honestly surprised more people aren’t talking about it.

What I liked:
I loved the backstory and history that we learn as the book unfolds. Although there were moments where it was a little exposition-heavy, the creative way it was told and the mystery of it made it incredibly interesting to me.

Hailey was a freaking riot.

The magic the citizens had was interesting, and I liked the division of the realms based on their gifts.

The friendships made between opposing sides were awesome. I don’t want to spoil anything so I will try to keep it vague, but I like that those bonds were made. Actually – all the friendships were done really well and were such a likable aspect to the story.

I loved the “voice” in her head and everything that followed finding out the truth. 😉

Also – I really loved the entire Ark setting. I could have spent SO much more time there uncovering all the secrets. MORE ARK.

What I didn’t like:
The beginning of the book was a little bit too dramatic for me. While it did the job of hooking me in to find out what had actually happened, the inner dialogue was a little bit too dramatic and redundant for my personal tastes. Once the story starts moving along and we set out on the adventure, this was quickly resolved and was a very small blip looking back.
