This was a very good read with a brilliant storyline. Sadly i didn't always get the flow of the story and found it a little jumpy in places but the characters and the nature of the storyline made up for it as it was engaging and poignant. A recommended family drama.

Thank you Netgalley.

How far would you go to protect your child?

A gripping novel about love and loss. I found myself completely gripped with this novel and shared the characters emotional journey. This was my first Sadie Pearse book, it certainly won't be my last.

For anyone who enjoys women’s emotional fiction and has yet to discover Sadie Pearse, then you are in for a treat. I loved her debut novel, This Child of Ours, and so couldn’t wait to start her latest release, One of the Family. Sam Jackson went missing as a teenager but eighteen years later gets in touch with her sister, Freya, requesting that Freya care for her young son, Dino. It quickly becomes apparent that Dino has endured a difficult childhood but Freya warms to the lad (as did I) and determines to help him in any way she can.

Filled with hope and family love, with forgiveness and ultimately how it is impossible to control how a heart feels, this is a moving story of a modern family changing shape to include others. I particularly enjoyed that though Freya and her partner were separated they remained loyal and loving, sharing the upbringing of their daughters – rather than the well-worn cliché of a couple at war. A gentle warning, tissues may be needed towards the end! One for lovers of Diane Chamberlain, Kate Hewitt and Amanda Prowse.

This was a very heart wrenching, emotional read, but was written so realistic it truly made it feel as though it would impact me. Made me really think about how I would feel in the same situation, and by doing that tugged at my soul. I think if you like realistic, heartbreaking reads, which really use real life possibilities and beautiful writing, you’ll enjoy this emotional read!

This book took me by surprise. It really made me think about how I would cope in this situation. How selfless are we really? A heartbreaking book that covers so many modern topics.

Loved this book. They don’t come around often books like these where you’re gripped from the start. I was hooked and completely immersed in the lives of the characters, rooting for them. I was very emotionally involved in their lives too and shed a few tears throughout the book. I loved the exploration of relationships and what they meant to each character. What I liked most of all was that the book left me satisfied where so many others leave some loose threads these were all wrapped up well by the end.

One of the Family is a rare gift - a story filled to the brim with emotion that examines family, love and guilt. You won’t be able to put it down and it will stay in your thoughts long after you’ve finished the final page.

Freya’s beautiful, fiery sister Sam ran away eighteen years ago and the loss devastated her family. Today Freya still lives in the same small town, has a career she loves, two daughters and is separated from her husband, although they have remained friends. She’s never given up hope that one day Sam will return home. Of course, she’s thrilled when she receives an email from Sam asking for help. She needs to “go away for a while” and wants Freya to take care of her seven year old son Dino. Freya agrees, anticipating a restored relationship with her sister. What happens next is definitely not expected.

Sadie Pearse is a talented writer who skillfully develops her characters while unrolling a story that is a mystery mixed with a family drama. Freya’s relationship with her teenage daughter is incredibly accurate and well described. Dino is an emotionally damaged child who doesn’t know how to fit into a happy family. His struggles are heartbreaking. 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Little, Brown Book Group UK and Sadie Pearse for this ARC.

Firstly a big thank you to the publishers for my copy to review on netgalley. I read this authors debut, well under this name and loved it.

This is a powerfully emotive story of love, loss, family and new beginnings. What is family? Is it iust blood related or can it be more .

What happens when answers are finally given to someones disappearance..

Beautifully written and captures love and warmth.

Sadie writes from the heart and about sensitive subject matters in a expert way.

Samantha Jackson has been missing for eighteen years. Then, out of nowhere, she gets back in touch with her sister.

Sam needs Freya - now a grown woman with a family of her own - to take in her son.

But Dino is not a happy child, despite the warmth of Freya's family he cannot settle. He startles at loud noises and he's prone to angry, violent outbursts. He's one of the family, Freya knows he is, but why doesn't it feel like that?

In order to keep her daughters safe, Freya is forced to go in search of the truth. What is going on with Dino, and what really happened to her sister the night she left?

Firstly thank you to Netgalley for a revièw copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Oh my word what a book! I have just read it in one sitting and my emotions are shot! I don't want to spoil the book for anyone but there are so many difficult issues faced in this book - Sadie Pearse has a fantastic writing style and drip feeds you the facts. I was completely taken by this book, I wanted to know what happened to all of the characters.

The surprise in the book - I definitely didn't see it coming and, to the publishers, please don't change the tagline to include hinting at the fact there is a surprise, leave it to the reader to find out for themselves.

I was completely engrossed by this book and would definitely recommend it to others.

Freya’s sister, Sam, ran away from home eighteen years ago, but Freya has never given up hope that one day she’ll come home. So when Sam gets in touch out of the blue asking for Freya’s help looking after her son, Freya doesn’t think twice about welcoming him into her home. But things just aren’t quite right... There’s something unsettling about her nephew, and just where has Sam been all this time?

Before starting this book I was quite unsure what to expect, and I’m pleased to honestly be able to say it surpassed my expectations. I really liked Pearse’s writing style and was hooked by the storyline, quickly becoming invested in the various characters. I felt that Pearse drip-fed clues and information beautifully throughout the book and this gave it a really good pace.

The characters were all very likeable, including those battling certain issues, and I loved seeing the relationships develop as the story unfolded. The twist near the end took me completely by surprise and I found the ending satisfying as it provided me with the closure I needed after such an emotionally-charged storyline. A definite recommendation from me!

Sam disappeared without trace. Her family waited years for news of her - then her sister gets the news that Sam has a son and needs Freya to look after him for a while while Sam sorts herself out. But is everything as it seems?
I particularly liked the character of Dino in this story, as he struggles to cope with everything new in his life. The story twists and turns while Sam seems to remain just out of reach. An excellent read.
