Loved it! 4.5 Stars.

[book:The Twins|54320117] by [author:J.S. Lark|19761446] was an absolute page turner for me! I love all novels, movies, stories about twins...but make it a thriller? OMG, I'm there. As a child, two of my closest friends were identical twins and my cousins were identical twins as well. So...this book was so very interesting to me...twins where one is good and one is bad. Which twin is good? Is it Sarah, whose perfect life with her husband and daughter is being invaded by her twin sister Susan? Or is it Susan who wishes to take over Sarah's life as her own? The story covers 3 timelines and is told in alternating perspectives of each twin. Honestly, it was a bit confusing in the very beginning until I got a handle on the personalities of each twin. The timeline switches around between when the twins are children, and then 2 timelines when they are adults. It wasn't hard to figure out the time period once I read a few sentences of each chapter, but chapter titles indicating the year and twin would certainly help prevent confusion. That said, everything else was fantastic for me. Lots of triggers for those who are sensitive--like rape, child abuse, teenage pregnancy, drug abuse, and prostitution. (mostly off page, but not all)
I couldn't put this one down! I had to know how it ended! My 80 year old mother has been a reading demon during this pandemic...she will love this...and when it is published, November 20, 2020, I'm definitely buying her a copy! If you like a thriller you can't put down, this may be the one for you!
Many thanks to Netgalley One More Chapter, HarperCollins UK and of course, the author JS Lark for the opportunity to read and review this advanced readers copy. Thank you!!!

A psychological thriller that had me guessing from start to finish. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the book, the frequent jumping between past and present and one twin or the other was quite confusing and I did really need to concentrate to keep with the story; not necessarily a bad thing but could have been helped with a title at the start of each chapter to keep the reader on track.

Overall this is a great storyline; dark, thrilling with more than one unexpected twist - definitely worth a read.

Oh I wanted to love this book, it has all the qualities of a fantastic read. However, the jumping from past to present and quite a bit of triggering situations made this book just ok. It was one I made myself finish.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Quite enjoyable. The balance between character development and plot development was a bit off, with the focus on characters ebbing and flowing. I liked the story - very engrossing and kind of complicated. This book started to get a bit crazy as the author tried to wrap things up.

My thanks to Net Galley for the ARC but I'm sad to say I only made it to 36 percent of the book so I will review partially. Book starts off with a car accident. Then Susan, long lost twin of Sarah comes back into her life after decades and is jealous that she has a daughter Lucy and married her boyfriend. Then the story starts jumping from the past where you learn about the girls abusive upbringing, to the story when they both meet Jonny, now Sarah's husband, to the hospital post the accident from the beginning. The chapters were not marked of what time frame you were in and I had to figure out who was talking. I had to struggle to continue. Not one of my faves. Wanted more continuity.

Love books that flash from present to past so layer by layer, we learn more about the characters. This book was so well written and the story so entwined, it held my attention from the first page to the last. The Twins is a fast read psychological thriller. Definitely recommend!
Thank you to netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

The Twins by J.S, Lark is a twisty psychological thriller that had my head spinning from beginning to end. While I very much enjoyed this read, the unrelenting back and forth between timelines and the alternating perspectives of each twin were a little overwhelming, and I found that I did need to concentrate to keep it all straight. A narrative that demands attention and focus, however, is certainly not a bad thing.

Sarah and Susan are twins, so similar in not only appearance, but in developmental aspects, that their own mother cannot tell them apart. The sisters share a troubled past and are further tied together by their love for the same man, Jonny. But when one twin seemingly goes on to achieve all that she has ever dreamed of, and has successfully left her past behind, will her sister be content to settle for second best?

This is a dark, multi-layered tale that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Many thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for granting my wish of an ARC of this book.

This was a book I could not put down. I did have a hard time at first keeping up as it jumped back and forth from Susan and Sarah, the twins, and from present to past fairly quickly. I found a lot of the book to be predictable but there were definitely some twists at the end. It kept me entertained and had me guessing every step of the way. Worth the read and I will be looking into other books by this author!

I was torn whether or not to finish this book until I was about halfway through; I was getting fed up not knowing whether it was Susan or Sarah "talking" ... then it clicked and that really was the point of the story - good twin, bad twin - which twin is which?

I don't know how the author managed to plot this one and the last 60 or so pages were a whirlwind of explanations and how/why sort of resolutions and I am very glad I did not give up. If I am honest I'm not sure that all my questions were totally answered but nonetheless I felt pretty satisfied when I finished the book.

My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

Thank you Net Galley for providing me with a copy of this book. I’m sad to say this - I could not get into this book at all. I tried for 2 weeks but at nearly 50% in, I was just not pleased. It was also very confusing to follow which twin was talking as well. I don’t know, I may try to read this again later but for now I am putting it down.

An interesting thriller with a surprise (a little cliche) ending. I do wish the chapters had been titled “Susan then” or “Sarah now” or something like that. The story jumped around a lot and it made it really difficult to keep everything straight. I also caught two instances of the wrong character being used (Sarah instead of Susan, and vice versa). This one definitely has all the “Lifetime movie” requirements: teen pregnancy, drug use, prostitution, twins, lying about age, and anything else you can think of.

4-plus psycho sister stars! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️💥

This is a twisty little domestic thriller about an evil twin. But which one is evil?

I really enjoyed the fast-paced and creepy writing of this novel, which jumps between the past and the present lives of twins Susan and Sarah. Both girls were in love with the same boy, but only one could have him. The story begins with the missing twin showing up in the life of the other twin, who married Jonny. But what does she want? Craziness and tragedy soon ensues.

This book had me riveted and turning the pages between the twins’ tragic young lives and present adulthood. Both timelines were mysterious and interesting and creepy AF. J.S. Lark’s writing is addictive and this book was a roller coaster ride. Dark, mysterious, and tragic with a generous dose of crazy. I really enjoyed the read.

My main and really only criticism is that from the very beginning and all throughout, it could be hard to tell the twins apart. They have very similar names - Sarah and Susan - and the timeline jumps back and forth so much that it can be hard to keep track of which twin experienced what events in the past. I think some of this was clearly by design, as it is part of the theme of the book that no one could ever tell the twins apart and that factors into the story. But while that was a cool idea in practice, it also made for a somewhat more confusing reading experience when I would have liked to have a better way to keep the twins straight at times. Chapter headings with timelines (years) or giving the twins more different names might have helped with this.

Despite that though, this was an extremely fun and thrilling reading experience that took the “evil twin” trope to new levels. I had an idea how it might end but was still surprised with several elements and enjoyed the way it unfolded. It’s a dark and sometimes depressing book with surprises at every turn which of course means I enjoyed it..

4 plus psycho sister stars! I’m definitely going to be reading more books by JS Lark because I really enjoy her style.

Thanks to NetGalley, Harper Collins and JS Lark for the advance copy of this fun twin thriller!

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

The Twins is z book I could not put down! I desperately wanted to know what happened next after each chapter and even though I figured out the twist about half way through, the build up to it and how it happened was gripping!

Sarah and Susan are identical twins with a past that will make your toes curl. Sarah manages to escape the past with Jonny (Susan's ex) but Susan catches up to them many years later - but what deep dark secret is there between the twins, their past and the present!

I highly recommend this psychological read to anyone who loves suspense and thrillers! You really must read this!

Susan and Sarah are identical twin sisters. They are best friends. They sleep together, play together, steal together. They have each others back. They are twelve years old.
Jonny and his two friends meet the twins at the park. The boys are all older than they girls. The girls are immediately attracted to the older boy, Jonny. Sarah tells them they are 14 years old. Jonny never questioned it. He believed it. They acted older, they were smoking. There was no indication that they were 12 year old girls.
Things start going awry when both girls want Jonny. There may be two of them, but there's only one of Jonny.
Dark psychological thriller. Keep you guessing to the very end.

But what happens when they both fall for the same man? Is their bond stronger than the feelings for a man? Bonds will be tested and hearts will be broken. Will blood be shed?
