This was such a creepy book in many ways. I enjoyed it so much but at times it made me shiver. The little girl’s face appearing at the upstairs window especially creeped me out. The story was good and the fact it was a modern story made it better. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

A dark thriller, you know something is wrong but you don`t know what, keeps you in suspense.

Abi has been friends with grace since UNI, a very toxic relationship.
Abi moved on and married, when her husband has to go to New York for work Grace turns up from Australia and moves in with Abi and the toxic relationship continues.
Abi is not a likeable character with everyone running round trying to look after her as she`s a delicate artist.
A good twist to the end.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review

I expected this to be a creepy and scary and it was – but even more so!

When Abi receives a letter from her university friend, Grace, telling her she’s returning to the UK, she remembers all the uneasy times they had when she fell under Grace’s spell and how belittled she felt. However, against her own best advice, she finds herself saying she can come and live with her; as husband Ronan is heading off on business it will provide Abi with company and, after all, her life has changed - she won’t be as easily influenced this time round – will she?

An utterly chilling read! This one had me quite mesmerised all the way through. I tend to take what I read at face value but always had the feeling with this one that there was something going on I wasn’t privy to. What a fantastic, fascinating story this is; packed with a range of intriguing characters and multiple surprises, I buried myself in this one and loved absolutely everything about it. Looking back, I wonder if I should have been able to join the dots but the truth is I was just enjoying it as it came. I was quite shocked at where it went but, on the other hand, it all made perfect sense! Most definitely an author who knows her stuff and is well worth following, this is a five star read and worth my recommendation.

My thanks to the publisher for my copy via NetGalley; this is – as always – my honest, original and unbiased review.

The House of Whispers is a compulsive and disturbing thriller of toxic friendship, destructive tendencies, obsession, guilt and betrayal. It follows talented artist Abi, who has rebuilt her life after turbulent teen years and is living in a lovingly restored townhouse with her husband Rohan. She has ‘welcomed’ former university best friend Grace back into her life and into her home while Rohan is working away in New York, several years after her suffocating, toxic friendship culminated in the two girls falling out bitterly and spectacularly, but the situation had at the time provided her with terrific inspiration for her painting. However, those days are over. Now, due to married life, Abi's creativity may have dried up, but she's coping just fine without Grace in her life. And yet, as Grace returns to town, Abi paints a series of portraits that are snapped up by an art gallery for a forthcoming exhibition, but the ferocious pace of work comes with a price. The two women begin to rekindle this unhealthy, dark friendship they once shared. While Grace unwittingly serves as a muse for her best works yet, the overall effect she has on her friend is quite different as Abi’s world and the perfect life she has built with Rohan starts to fall apart.

Rohan initially puts his wife's erratic behaviour down to artistic genius but, as their domestic life falls apart and as Abi descends deeper and deeper into the depths of Grace’s unpleasant spell almost becoming at the mercy of her lethal charm, he comes to the realisation that the situation is much more sinister and unsettling than initially thought. This is a riveting and enthralling frienship-type thriller and a palpably tense and nail-biting summer read. Author Anna Kent intersperses the tight, absorbing chapters with excerpts from interviews with Rohan, which clearly take place after the events of the book have unfolded. Is he being interviewed by a police officer, by a doctor? We don’t know... but something clearly went very wrong and these interludes all add to the suspense and intrigue of this wonderful book. Written in the first person, the book races into two delicious, unexpected twists, the first catching me totally unawares, the possibility of the second only dawning on me as it was about to be revealed. It's utterly chilling and addictive and almost woven to perfection and while it is a slow-burner this allows you to get to know the characters thoroughly and explores the toxicity often present in long-term female friendships. Highly recommended.

The House of Whispers was a slow burner for me but once I got into it I couldn't put it down. It is a chilling psychological thriller that had me on the edge of my seat and that ending - I did not see it coming!

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for my ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

This isn’t usually a book I would usually read. It had a firm gothic, creepy theme to it. I have to say that it’s taken me a couple of days to decide what to write for this review as I didn’t enjoy as much as I wanted to.
The book started off with character building and also scene setting, and the writing for this was great, really descriptive, really felt like we were there and could picture it in the minds eye. It was definitely a slow burn book.the characters were okay but I didn’t really relate to them, therefore I felt less bonded with the story. The ending was okay, was surprising, and made up for the rest of it. Overall, it was okay!!

The House of Whispers is a very clever psychological thriller that quickly draws you in and keeps you reading. Abi seems to be a happily married woman, a successful artist living in her dream house. A text from an old university friend needing somewhere to stay appears to be causing her major anguish. By threading the story with flashbacks to her university days you quickly understand that her friendship with Grace was deeply toxic and damaging. Why is she allowing her into her life again?
This is a well written book with a very good twist. I thought I had guessed it but only got a quarter of the way there!

A good read, a little claustrophobic perhaps. with a relationship that is as toxic as the one in this story.
However I enjoyed it and look forward to other books by this author.

The House Of Whispers by Anna Kent is a completely compelling contemporary read that totally consumed me as I read.
It is a story of a magnificent obsession. It is an obsession that despite its toxicity is impossible to let go of.
There is a friendship that seems very one-sided but also completely unbreakable.
Family is important but even family is unable to prevent a character on a course to self-destruct.
The novel is mainly written in the first person from the point of view of the lead character. Interspersed throughout are transcripts of a police interview – the reader is intrigued as we try to work out what has happened.
The setting mirrors the mind of a character at times, being stormy, disturbed and very creepy.
House Of Whispers was very cleverly constructed and had me guessing and trying to fit the pieces together. I actually surprised myself with the penny dropping just before the big reveal!
House Of Whispers was compulsive reading as I wanted to uncover the truth. I can highly recommend it.
I received a free copy via Net Galley. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

Definitely a slow burner but there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Sometimes you need to get into the characters and backstory and this novel does exactly that. This was a very enjoyable read and I loved it. Thank you for my ARC.

Hmmmm... now it's taken me a couple of days to think about my review for this one as it left me feeling a bit lacklustre to be honest.

It's most definitely a slow burner but that burn never really speeds up. I was always waiting for that 'bang, its arrived' moment but it just never came.

Once Grace is introduced into the mix a very gentle buy much needed fizz was added to the narrative which made things not only more interesting but I started to enjoy the read.

The ending twist was unexpected which was a big plus, for once I was shocked BUT if I'm being completely truthful the last couple of pages just ruined it for me.. it just left me with no closure what so ever and I actually felt let down by it 🤣. Don't you just hate it when a book can leave you angry!

Basically I found it an ok read but was left feeling 'meh' as my teenage son would say!

Thanks to netgalley and HQ for the ARC

This book was a bit of a slow burner to begin with and it took six chapters before I really got into it. From that point on though I was absolutely hooked and couldn't put it down. I found myself holding my breath and literally sitting on the edge of my seat, and what an ending!

Bit of a slow burner this one I thought, but creepy as hell...! I was seriously kinda dreading what came next. I did guess the twist but that didn’t detract from the book, I thought there was some great characters in there and I liked the plot, in all it was an easy read and one I got through in no time, I look forward to more from the author.

Many thanks for Anna Kent, HQ and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange my honest review.

Actually it’s a well-plotted psychological thriller that it explored the dynamic relationship between Grace and Abi and the toxic traits of the long-term friendships can ruin everything. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed reading this chilling and unsettling psychological thriller about mental frailties. The character development and description throughout the book was good. The characters were all well developed. I did enjoy. It's easy read.
Although it was found that some twists were predictable and quite many plot holes. Moreover, its pacing was very slow burn. I was desperate for the narration move faster. I was very disappointed to the ending. It's quite rushed to be finished. There were a lot of plot holes which were didn't explained and left it for us to imagine.

Having read all of this author's books, I was very excited to read The House of Whispers and it didn't disappoint! First of all, I loved the setting and the creepy feel that the author managed to convey throughout the whole book. There was a lot of suspense and foreshadowing which I loved because it made me curious as to what exactly was happening! I'm usually pretty good at guessing twists but I had no idea on this one. I don't want to give anything away but it was a complete surprise and really added to the enjoyment. Thank you so much for the opportunity to review!

When Grace returns into Abi's life, years after they fell out at University, Abi can't help but feel uneasy. Now happily married, Abi's built a new life for herself and put those days behind her. And yet Grace slips back into her life with all her lethal charm she had before. Abi's husband Rohan, can't help but be concerned about his wife's behaviour changes. As their happy home threatens to fall apart, he realises there's something deeply unnerving about Grace.

Abi is an artist who struggles with many issues. Now with Grace back in her life, it affects Abi in many different ways. Abi is married to Rohan and they were happy until Abi received an email from Grace. There's a mixed bunch of characters that include Rohan's family. The story is told mainly from Abi's point of view. The story held my attention throughout. This is a bit of a slow burner, but it's well worth sticking with. You won't be disappointed.

I would like to thank #NetGalley, #HQ and the author #AnnaKent for my ARC of #TheHouseOfWhispers in exchange for an honest review.

The House of Whispers by Anna Kent, for me, started slowly. I have not read any other books by this author and was intrigued about the storyline.

Rohan & Abigail Allerton are in love, married and living in an old renovated house. Their marriage becomes strained when Rohan has to work in New York for a while & Abi stays at home. Abi receives an email from her university friend, Grace, who has been living in Australia for the past 4 years, that she is returning to London and wants to meet up. Then the fun begins and carried on rollercoasting to a great ending

My reading journey of story and characters created emotions of uneasiness, anger, sadness, silliness, and bouts of shouting but I had to find out how the book ended.

If you enjoy psychological thrillers then this book is definitely for you. ENJOY!

I WANT TO THANK NETGALLEY FOR THE OPPORTUNITY OF READING AN ADVANCED COPY OF THIS BOOK FOR AN HONEST REVIEW

For me personally I found this book started quite slow, lots of books that I read explode with the storyline in chapter 1, so took me a while to get into it. and when I did it was a good read.

The plot follows two friends, Grace and Abi, who have not seen each other in a while and their friendship rears its head again when Grace gets back in touch with Abi. The story sees Abi's husband questioning his wife's sudden change of character and it all relates back to her friendship with Grace. It is quite a chilling read and I enjoyed reading it.

This book is a good thriller and you can get easily immersed in it.

My first book by Anna Kent and I really enjoyed her style of writing. Thanks to Netgalley and Anna Kent for an early copy of this book in return for an honest review.
