Great plot with great characters. The story flowed smoothly and had suspenseful twists and turns throughout. It moved a little slowly for me at first but picked up in the end. Some of the plot was a bit predictable but it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the story. The main character had a lot of depth and was very relatable. There were some gruesome parts in this that were also really well done. Overall a decent read

An Eye for an Eye by Carol Wyer introduces readers to DI Kate Young, and it is a most promising start to a brand new series. I have loved Ms Wyer's previous work, and was thrilled to get my hands on her latest offering. It did not disappoint.

Returning from sick leave following a tragic case that has left her traumatized, DI Kate Young is called upon to investigate the brutal murder of a prominent citizen, which is followed in short order by the discovery of a second victim. The pressure is on for Kate to solve the case quickly, while at the same time dealing with her post-traumatic stress.

This is a fast-paced read that emotionally reels you in with a complex and empathetic protagonist in DI Kate Young, and I cannot wait to see where Ms Wyer will take us next.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Amazon Publishing UK for an ARC of this title.

There were a few clunky plot holes for me but I have forgiven this from the novel as it was such a fun and escapist read. This story follows DCI Kate Young, who is returning to work for the Staffordshire Police after taking some time off due to being first on scene to a traumatic murder spree on a train that left her devastated. Six months later and she thinks she’s put the trauma behind her but ghosts from her past keep popping up. She is assigned to a case where victims seem to be murdered by enforced choking with an instrument and left tied up in their homes.

The further she dives into her new case the more the murder victims seem to connect to her past and the people in her life. Can she push through the pain of the past to find the answers? Who is killing these men and why?

Some bits of the novel (the structure) were organised in an over exaggerated fashion so that the plot twists were more than obvious by the time they were revealed. Also some red herrings were poorly executed and didn’t work as they weren’t convincing enough. That did irk me a little. But the set up of the murders was good and the links between the victims intriguing. I also enjoyed the switching of perspectives.

I am interested in seeing where this series goes as it left on a cliff hanger. I would like to see where the evolution and growth of the character of Kate Young goes.

Thank you to the author Carol Wyler, Thomas and Mercer and Netgalley for a review copy in exchange for an honest review.

#AnEyeforanEye #NetGalley I usually read my Netgalley books in order but when a new Carol Wyer book pops up, that order goes out of the window and I go straight to this! I love Carol's books, both her crime thriller and other stories and this book in a new crime thriller series certainly didn't disappoint! Great story line, easy to read with plenty of action to keep you hooked. There is obviously a lot more to the character of Kate y
Young and I can't wait to see how her character develops in future installments. A great 5 star read!!

I'm so glad others loved this.
For some reason, I just could not get into this one. The plot too a minute to really catch me and even then, I felt like the mystery of it all was easy to guess pretty early on. I didn't feel the connection with the team and I thought most of the conversations felt off and odd. I wish I'd loved this one.

DI Kate Young has entered the building another amazing series to add to Carol Wyers successful collection of series can't wait to read more!

Portrays the harrowing effect of grief and PTSD and pure survival through tragedy, another strong female character with grit steel and determination.

An intense read that keeps you engaged and immersed.

The first book in a new series, this is a solid 3.5 star read. It ends in a way to make you get the next book. I really didn't understand why that thread wasn't pursued a little more before the ending, but okay. The story seems overly confusing, especially early on until you guess a thing that takes most of the book to come out. You'll probably guess the other important thing too. However, it's a good story, well written given the dual timelines. Hopefully the team can improve their communication going forward--that was...annoying.

Kate Young is a top detective but events have had her on leave after a dreadful incident. This left her with severe PTSD. However when a body is found having died in a most unusual & horrific way her superior askes her & a small team to investigate.

I love Carol Wyre's other detective series so I was excited to hear that there was another series with different characters. I found it quite easy to get into this one. Having such a small team made it easy to get to know them. I was a bit confused by Kate at times but guessed some of what was going on with her. The plot itself was gory, twisted & clever. I found it hard to put down as I wanted to see if my suspicions were correct.

Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book. I'm already looking forward to the next one!

A strange and intriguing storyline involving murder, police corruption and revenge. A most unusual method of murder and torture to gain the information that the murderer required. DI Kate Young overcomes the trauma caused by a tragedy in her personal life despite her problems brings the case to a successful conclusion

A wonderful new series with a lovable, formidable female lead, DI Kate Young.

Kate is recovering from a personal tragedy when she is put on a new case, which is a test of her skills. Assisted by Emma and Morgan, they have to catch a killer before the body count increases.
As they get closer to solving the case Kate discovers that there is a possibility that the system she works for too maybe a part of the larger problem.

I love the DI Natalie Ward series and now Kate Young too is becoming a favourite. Cant wait for the next book in the series.

Thank you Netgalley and Thomas &Mercer for the ARC

Well, don't you just hate it when you work hard on a review then accidentally delete the blinking thing?! It's just happened to me with this one, grrrr. Moan over.

Anyway let's get back to talking about the author and the new book, Carol Wyer is one of my favourite authors, she entertains me no end with her "Mr Grumpy" tweets, I'm always chuffed when I have a new book from her on my TBR pile. I've been with both previous leads DI Robyn Carter and DI Natalie Ward since the beginning both are strong female protagonists, but they both have chutzpah and are loyal to a fault and i will admit I have a soft spot for both of them. I was really looking forward to meeting her newest lead character. I knew as soon as I finished #AnEyeForAnEye DI Kate Young will be joining them soon.

While on leave following a significant incident involving a shooting on a bus, DI Kate Young of Staffordshire Police is approached by her bosses DCI William Chase and Superintendent John Dickson with regard to coming back to work. Although she knows that she's not quite ready she gives in to the pressure, persuaded in part by the promise of the team of her choice, enter DS Meredith and DS Donaldson (the dastardly duo), The further into the book I got the more I couldn't help but feel that on one hand they wanted her back because she was/is their best detective, but on the other they can see she appears to be struggling and maybe a little vulnerable. There was also the possibility that they would be able manipulate her and control the investigation.

The tortured body of a successful businessman was found dead in his home, he doesn't seem to have enemies, albeit his marriage appears as if it's on it's way to hell in a hand basket It's not long before a second body with similar injuies surfaces, obviously they are connected, and that's when the pressure from her bosses begins. I had everything crossed for her, that she'll be able to keep the flashbacks at bay long enough to show them that she's the same, excellent but newly broken police officer she always has been.

Almost from the getgo I worried about Kate, her mental health has taken a bit of a beating, suffering from ptsd having flashbacks. It was sad to read of her self medicating by taking her medication incorrectly alongside a bucketload of wine. (never a good combination). My heart was in my mouth when she takes them behind her teams back. It made me think about the back to the 70's & 80s when a lot of women were prescribed Valium for their "nerves" better known as "mummy's little helper". I knew a few women when I was younger who fell into the dark abyss of addiction whose lives were destroyed by these little blue pills. Crazily I worried even more when she decided to go cold turkey, it's really not the best way to stop that kind of medication.

Don't be fooled into thinking that this is just an ordinary police procedural #AnEyeForAnEye is much more than that, IMHO It's written in easy read style, with chapters such a style that we the reader can easily be tempted to do just one more. The author has planted the seeds for what I hope is to come in a big way and wow I just know that when the fall out from whatever it is hits the pages and personally I can't wait to curl up with all the usual suspects my blanket, chocolate, big mug of tea and number two in this series.

Read for an honest review. Thank you Ms Wyer, #Netgalley and Amazon Publishing UK

DI Kate Young is back on the force, working hard to solve the vicious murder of a prominent businessman, but PTSD is her constant companion. Flashbacks to a mass shooting on a train car plague her every move. Her colleagues notice that she’s become confused, stressed, and self-medicating. Does DI Kate Young have what it takes to stop a serial killer while battling her own demons?

The main mystery of An Eye for an Eye is intense, twisting, and has an amazing payoff. The killer is creative and even though the MO remains the same, it’s a heart-pounding story every time they strike. I never could’ve guessed whodunit, but after all the evidence was laid out, it all made perfect sense. There were so many mysteries, red herrings, and untold stories here that I am very glad that this book was clearly set up to be a series.

The representation of life with mental illness is a thing of beauty. Too often, characters with mental illnesses are caricatured, diminished, or treated as other. DI Kate Young is still the best detective on the force, but she has unresolved trauma making it hard for her to get through the day. She may want to work, but her PTSD insists she take more time. The constant interruptions of her flashbacks (triggered by things as innocuous as ketchup on a french fry) and her inner struggle with addiction to the pills that keep her memories at bay is wonderfully emotional.

The writing style immersive and sweeping. Cinematic cutscenes and flashbacks broke up the main storyline. Some were from Kate’s experience before the book began, some were scenes that were retold by suspects, witnesses, etc.

This was the first book I’ve read by Carol Wyer, but this absolutely will not be the last.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Having read and loved all of the previous series by Carol I was looking forward to reading this I wasn’t disappointed. A brilliant start to a new series with characters that are likeable and you have to feel for all the trauma Kate has been through and continues to go through. I was gripped from the first page right until the end. The style of writing is fantastic and I can’t wait for the next instalment, bring it on!!
