I was really expecting to like this but me overall reaction was just meh. Now as a mafia type thriller/mystery Action is to be expected but I do wish that there are more political intrigue but then again the book isn't that long thus isn't meaty in the way that I want to read books from this type of genre.

While parts of this was well-written, other parts were very lackluster. I didn't end up enjoying this one very much.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC. All opinions are my own.

A mexican mafia story, starting with a literal bang when someone bombs the Boss of Bosses's daughter's birthday party. The prologue and the epilogue read a lot like the summary of some tele-novella, but the story itself was well written. I am looking forward to the next installment of this series.
The characters were, although superfically speaking, very cliched. They had rather obvious roles and, let's be honest, I knew who was behind the failed assassination attempt from the beginning. Nontheless, the story and the different characters were very interesting and I enjoyed reading this book. It was also my forst book about the Mexian mafia instead of the Italian, so on that end, it really mixed things up for me.
The story, although predictable, was well written. The author has a lovely style that kept me engaged in the book and also left me eager to read on.
My favorite character of the book was Santino, the younger son. He was very likeable and he was a character who wanted to do nothing at all with his family's business. I am a bit sad to see that he hadn't had that much time on page as I had wanted him to, but nontheless, I liked him very much.
The other characters were interesting as well, but Ignacio was just... He was too obvious to me. I usually like the "villain" but Ignacio was just... He was too full of himself. I can't say anything about the father, because I really did not care about him. He wasn't a character that interested me much, despite that fact that he is the head of the family and was supposed to be assassinated.
I am also not rooting forthe police here (I've only ever done so while watching Death Note and I doubt this is ever going to change...), because the cop (can't remember his name) was very unsympathetic.
I loved that you had multiple point of views which gave you a very good insight in the whole affair between the police and the mafia, although I think the police dominated a bit too much. But I presume that's just a matter of taste. I hope the following book might focus more on the Mafia, but having read the included sneak peak, I am pretty sure that won't be the case.

I received a free copy by Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a fairly quick read for me and while there were some twists and turns, I was expecting a little bit more from the story. I was left wanting more but not really in a good way. While some parts are beautifully written and the characters are relatable, this read to me more of a soap opera than the mystery/thriller it was made out to be. It was a quick and okay read for me, but I am unlikely to be picking up any others in the series.

This ARC was kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.

In this book we are presented with the story of the De Los Santos family, a crime/mob family in charge of most of the drug and weapon traffic in Mexico. The action starts with a bomb attack on the family on the day of the youngest child's birthday. It then unfolds over the course of the next 24hours.

There's a very small group of well defined characters, mostly the family members. We see all of their demeanours and perspectives. The action is present throughout and we are always following the fast paced course of the story.

I didn't feel like it was the right read for me cause it felt too predictable and very much like a Mexican soap opera. Nevertheless it was an enjoyable read with not a dull moment.
