A nice travel book describing an elderly couple's cruise from Boston to Montreal and back. Some interesting places and stories. Good for a little armchair travel.

Before their retirement, Sunny and Al Lockwood were workaholics. Sunny was a daily newspaper reporter, while Al had left an engineering career in Silicon Valley to move to the mountains and become a general contractor, designing and building houses.

Once retired, the Lockwood’s energy and enthusiasm focused on discovering new destinations. They have published a number of travelogues, immersing their readers in the geography, history and culture of each location.

In ‘Cruising from Boston to Montreal’ readers attend a rousing baseball game at Boston's Fenway Park; learn of Alexander Graham Bell's involvement with Canada's first airplane flight; visit the Prince Edward Island farm that was the setting for the Anne of Green Gables books; discover how lobster graduated from barnyard feed to gourmet fare; sail Canada's greatest waterway, the mighty St. Lawrence River; view breath-taking cathedrals and romantic lighthouses and discover Halifax's heart-breaking connection with the Titanic tragedy.

This travel memoir will introduce you to the fascinating heroes, stunning beauty and staggering tragedies that have helped shape Canada's Maritimes, Quebec City, and Montreal.

Sunny Lockwood writes in a chatty, colloquial style and her descriptive voyage entries read like letters to a good friend. I was disappointed not to see any of Al Lockwood’s photographs in my Kindle version from NetGalley.

The Lockwood’s experiences prove that being young at heart is all you need to explore this fascinating world. Whether you long to travel for enlightenment or escape or if you simply enjoy armchair travel, this warm personal account will carry you away on an absorbing nautical journey. An enriching experience for any reader.

A huge thank you to @NetGalley and @BooksGoSocialGroup for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

🚢 Cruising from Boston to Montreal by Al & Sunny Lockwood 🚢

🌊 In this wonderfully written memoir, we discover historic wonders and modern delights. Throughout it we learn more about Canada and the people in this country.

🌊 We follow Al and Sunny Lockwood as they share their adventures on this cruise from Boston to Montreal.

🌊 This is an unforgettable story and was very well written. I really enjoyed where this story went and following these people in this memoir. I honestly thought this was fiction but it was still so well written.

🌊I’ve never read any books that take place on cruises and wow do I want to read more. This story gives off the most relaxing moments. I just want to get on a cruise across the country.

🌊I’m so glad I read this one, even if it was out of my comfort zone, and got to experience these beautiful story.

🌊It was such a stunning book by these duo authors and I’ll definitely read more from them.

🌊I had a fun ride throughout it all and I can’t wait until it’s safe again to go on a cruise.

I jumped at the chance to read this travel book, as my husband and I had planned to take a similar cruise in 2020 that got canceled due to the pandemic and we are currently considering whether to rebook a similar route in 2022. This short book gives people who have never cruised before some helpful tips. However, I wasn’t prepared for how “chatty” the book would be. I certainly didn’t need to know what Al or Sunny ordered for dinner on the ship or what flavor ice cream they chose at a very cute-sounding ice cream place at one of their stopovers. I also was surprised at their disappointment in their ship cabin, as they sounded like old hands at cruising and should have realized what they were getting. (And I was delighted that the cruise company moved them to a much better room.) I did enjoy reading about all the various stops they made in the Canadian Maritimes and their exploration of Quebec City and Montreal. I was hoping for more photographs, but the ones they did include were lovely and evocative of the locations.

Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read an advance readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Thank you from NetGalley , AI & Sunny Lockwood and BooksGoSocial for the digital copy of Cruising from Boston to Montreal. This is my personal review.
For the past year I have been dreaming of taking a trip. This was the closest thing to actually being able to travel or take a cruise during this time. I have never been on a cruise anywhere and this gave me the insight to see what I could do on a Northeast cruise. I have always wanted to see this area and now with the help of this book I know what I can see and do.
The description of what they saw and telling the stories of history and facts about what is out there to discover made for a wonderful read.
I can not wait to pack my bags and take this amazing journey.

A great trip report for those wanting to cruise the Northeast (which I do). I loved the personal experiences and the tips on what to do, where to eat and how to travel.

Finally! I was once again able to enjoy a lovely cruise. I cruised from Boston to Montreal with my friends, Sunny and Al Lockwood. Full disclosure- at this time I must be content to be an armchair cruiser. However, reading the Lockwood’s latest travel book, “Cruising from Boston to Montreal” was entertaining and almost like a carefree sailing.

Subtitled, “Discovering coastal and riverside wonders in Maine, the Canadian Maritimes and along the St. Lawrence River,” the Lockwood’s friendly writing style is clear and informative. Sunny writes about their daily doings, and Al chimes in with his own warm and perceptive observations. They cover life on the ship, and the highlights of each port of call. They give just enough history and background to make you feel like you are there with them. Bar Harbor, Nova Scotia, Halifax, Montreal, Quebec City are all brought to life. (And yes, Prince Edward Island is still known for Anne of Green Gables.)

If you haven’t cruised before, their book will give you a good view of what to expect on board. If you haven’t been to this part of Canada, you will want to add this region to your travel bucket list. The Lockwoods have written other travel books and so I am planning my next trip with them. How does a cruise from Barcelona to Miami sound?

Thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for an advance digital review copy. This is my honest review.
