A fantastic read with tons of twists. Keeps you guessing all the way through and I couldn't put it down. I'm due to the author but will look out for more.

Buckle up, sit tight and prepare to be entertained.
Edge of the seat stuff, with 1 eye open, racing to read but also creepy and edgy.
This book is a must read. Recommended to several people and they all agree so that says it all.
Must read for me !

This book read like watching a Lifetime movie. Everything seems nice and everyone is happy. But it soon changes into the opposite, and I enjoyed it immensely! Recommended.

This book was everything I look for in a book. It was so exciting. The plot was fantastic. It really had me on the edge of my seat, and my heart racing. It was very well written and flowed well.

The Perfect Neighbour…?
The perfect neighbour. Really? Matt and Imogen make a move and new neighbour Nancy seems just perfect until, suddenly, she isn’t. A well drawn cast of characters and a pacy plot make this a dark and twisting suspense where nothing is as it seems.

A great read that had you gripped from the first page ! Ever chapter was left on a cliffhanger and you just wanted to keep reading! But what a fantastic ending ! Didn’t see it coming at all !

Loved this book! I wouldn’t say there are any massive twists to it however sometimes it’s not needed. A great little thriller!

I've attempted to read this book since it was first released on NetGalley, hoping that I would find the courage to finally manage to plough through the dark and upsetting subject - but after another attempt, I'm having to admit defeat.

There are some subjects that I can't read - possibly because I always make a direct connection to the characters and their pain becomes my pain. This is one such book. I hope that the author has much success because the subject needs to be exposed.

This wasn’t a bad book but just missing a bit of tension. It was pretty predictable with the storyline and I’m sure a nurse would have guessed she was being poisoned. Having said that it was still quite enjoyable but only 3 stars from me

A thrilling psychological thriller that kept me hooked from page one, would highly recommend, all throughout it kept me guessing.

I was really hooked by this story, thrillers are my favourite genre and I can always tell when I’m going to enjoy a book from the offset!

There were points where I found a little slow-going but overall it was really fast paced and I was hooked!

This is definitely a page-Turner and will keep you guessing!

An enjoyable read that I will go on to recommend. I found the characters interesting and the plot line engaging. Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Matthew, his wife Imogen and their daughter Ashley move from London to a house along New Church Road in Albury, a village near Guildford in Surrey. How will they adapt to village life compared to busy but anonymous life in London? How will they get along with their new neighbours? Follow this family as they deal with village life in this psychological thriller.

I liked the short chapters with their point of view from either Matthew, Imogen or their new neighbour Nancy. Sadly, these 3 main characters were not people you would want as a friend. Matthew was sneaky, Imogen is a nagging wife who is always spending money and Nancy simply gives me the creeps.

Sadly the warning flags in this psychological thriller are flown very early on. I guessed the plot very quickly and each hint confirmed my suspicions, one after the other.

I was pleased to read that I am not married to a woman like Imogen. Not only her rampant consumerism but the constant job allocation for Matthew to complete was wearing me down! Imogen even has the gall, in her own words “Or I could push, nag, dig until I revealed every little detail”.

Matthew for all his faults, does however offer to buy strangers a drink if he wants to talk to them. Simon turned down a beer in a near-by pub and had a soft drink but Chris not only had more than one coffee but had some cake too! That made me smile, the thought of a stranger buying me a beer “for a chat” - what do you want to know?

The Stranger Next Door rumbled along with no real surprises for me. I found it to be a comfortable, 3 star OKAY read that filled a hole, very much like eating toast before leaving for work in the morning. There is a lovely acknowledgement at the end when Adam, who wrote this novel during the Covid-19 lockdown, declares “And the final thank you is to you, the wonderful readers, tweeters, bloggers and reviewers, who take the time to remind everyone that the comfort of fiction is a constant, no matter what the world is doing.”

Matt and Imogen, a couple move to the Surrey countryside for a new start; they move to a small community and their neighbour Nancy wastes no time in befriending Imogen, although she dislikes Matt. Nancy and Imogen become closer and closer, and Imogen leans on Nancy as the troubles in her marriage surface once more. Nancy has a teenage daughter who has a life limiting illness so she welcomes the companionship too.

The story was well written and easy to read. The big reveal at the heart of the book was quite easy to guess but that's not the end of the matter.

*REVIEW*

I am ashamed to admit that this is the first book by Adam Southward that I have read, it most certainly will not be the last!

As soon as I read the books description I knew this was a book for me, I was captivated from the very beginning. As a huge fan of psychological thrillers this ticked every box for an amazing read:

Suspenseful ✔
Exhilarating ✔
Relatable characters ✔
Well executed plot ✔

The Stranger Next Door has a plot that is set at 100mph and never puts the brakes on, sit back, strap in and expect to stay there until the very end.

Told from multiple POVs this just added to the tension and suspicion and kept me on my toes second guessing the whole way through.

A compelling story that entices you in and leaves you breathless with anticipation for the next twist in brilliantly well thought out storyline.

4.5*

Huge thanks to netgalley and Headline Publishing Group /Emily Patience for the ARC and invite to take part in the Blog Tour.

I love a thriller where I think I know the ending and I’m totally wrong!!! I really enjoy reading thrillers and this one did not disappoint. I could see this easily being a movie/drama series it was that good.
Nancy was such a complex and scary character that you become absorbed into the book. I haven't read a book that intertwines both first and third person narrative and its really well done. The story moves between Matt, Imogen and Nancy and you see more depth and layers to thier story. Definitely recommending!

A psychological thriller that's on the slower side, The Stranger Next Door is made up of several pieces of standard thriller reads that make it all the more interesting. It isn't just a strange neighbor that makes The Stranger Next Door a thriller you have to discover the ending to, it's that no one appears to be telling the truth at all and what you think is true, probably really isn't. I so enjoyed thinking I knew what was to come, just to be surprised by Adam Southward's storytelling ability. Unfortunately, this one was just too slow for me and I struggled to stay attached until about 50% in. I think thriller fans will love this one though.

4☆ A Gritty, Engrossing, Suspenseful and Twisty Thriller.

The Stranger Next Door is a Twisty domestic Thriller. Once I started reading I was hooked.

Nancy and her Teenage Daughter Ruby, are Imogen, Matt and their Young Daughter Ashley's new neighbours.
At first everything seems OK.
I mean why wouldn't it. Nobody knows why Imogen and Matt fled their old house! The neighbourhood is a close knit group.
So why does Matt feel so on edge around Nancy!

Nancy comes across as very manipulative and controlling.
She rules over Daughter Ruby with her medication and illness.... but is Ruby really sick?
What happened to her Husband did he really die?
Why is Imogen becoming so unwell.
What is Matt hiding!
See the questions just kept coming as did the intrigue and suspicion.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Stranger Next Door, as soon as I started reading it I just knew I was in for a treat.
The Characters are all very complex and not entirely likeable which didn't bother me in the slightest as it just added to the Gritty plot.
If you enjoy your Domestic Thrillers, with cleverly Twisty plots, varying viewpoint chapters, then I highly recommend you read this Compulsive, Suspenseful and Gripping Story!

Quite a lot of the plot was predictable so apart from a couple of clever twists I wasn’t very thrilled by it. I also decided quite early on that I didn’t like the character Nancy and it seemed unlikely she would have been able to draw new people to her in the way the book seemed to show.

There’s an old saying “there’s no smoke without a fire” this book starts with a literally blazing fire and works its way backwards and you the reader have to follow the plumes of smoke to work out what is going on.

Matt and Imogen have moved from London to Surrey with their daughter Ashley and dog Jake. You quickly establish that the move was because of something but you are not sure what. This is the first little wisp of smoke.

In Surrey they meet and befriend neighbour Nancy, slightly older than Imogen and cookie cutter perfect with her picket fence acting like she’s just stepped out of a Hallmark movie. That perfect dream soon becomes a nightmare and after an accusation is thrown by Nancy she’s less Hallmark and more Shudder Horror channel.

I love characters like Nancy and if this was a movie she would outshine the leads and steal every scene. I simply adore characters you can love to hate and she’s one of the best. She’s clever, manipulative, devious and rotten to her evil little core. How could you not love a character like that!

I thought the plot was fairly evenly paced and it kept me reading dying to know what lead up to that first chapter. The plot was easy to follow and I thought fairly predictable until I read the end and I can only blame the smoke in my eyes as an excuse. This is a very clever thriller and the first I have read by Adam Southward, it won’t be my last that’s for sure!
