What a brilliantly addictive book this is, I loved every word on every page and it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

All the characters are good, even Nancy, and they are so well developed, I cannot speak highly enough about this book and this author is another to add to my list of favourites.

I can definitely recommend this and thank you to Netgalley and Headline Publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this brilliant book.

A very enjoyable psychological thriller.

Matt, Imogen and their daughter Ashley have moved to quiet gated community, leaving some damaging rumours behind in London behind to start a new life.

Imogen is keen to befriend neighbours and their next door neighbour Nancy is eager to oblige.

Nancy is the ‘Dolores Umbridge’ of characters, automatic hatred for this woman, but Imogen cannot see past her kind and giving nature, resulting in Nancy getting her claws into her family and causing utter destruction.

The plot in regards to Nancy was quite predictable but the twist at the end, I was fooled, very well done!

Definitely worth a read.

Utterly horrible book - I loved it!

This is why I keep neighbours at arms length...

Imogen and Matt move a small community, leaving life in the big city behind them - along with the suggestion of there being a big reason for them needing to move. Did something go wrong, was there trouble, did one of them do something? It hangs heavy in the air at times.

Imogen soon becomes friends with Nancy who seems to scoop her up and immediately offers what seems to be the perfect friendship. How lucky is she! Even with a poorly daughter to look after, Nancy has all the time in world for Imogen - although she appears less then keen on Matt.

So after Nancy makes an accusation - that seems to chime with whatever they left behind in the city - Imogen doesn't know who to turn to. Then when she becomes unwell she has no choice but to rely on ever present Nancy...

Creepy, unsettling and utterly compelling - The Stranger Next Door will get under your skin for sure!

An enjoyable psychological thriller. I found it slower at start but then it picked up. Plenty of twists and turns. Ending was not what I expected!

Thanks to Netgalley and Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Oh my gosh!
Less then half way through this book I knew what was coming.... but I was so wrong. The ending was not what I expected at all, this was one heck of a book.

Kindly sent from the publishing team for an honest review.

i really enjoy reading novels and this one did not disappoint. I could see this easily being a movie/drama series it was that good.
Nancy was such a complex and scary character that you become absorbed into the book. I haven't read a book that intertwines both first and third person narrative and its really well done. The story moves between Matt, Imogen and Nancy and you see more depth and layers to thier story.

A brilliant psychological thriller in my opinion.

I had a love/hate relationship with this book and on completion, shattered! At 50% of the novel, I was for giving up but the last 50% was the best! Annoying in parts, pacy in others, this is a story of lies, mistrust, love, illness and a lot more. Matt & Imogen Roberts and their 4 year old daughter, Ashley move to their new home, a gated community in Surrey from London after an incident instigates their move and unfolds as the story continues. Chapters are narrated alternatively by the main characters, Matt, Imogen & Nancy.

Nancy White, a widow and her 15 year old daughter Ruby are their new neighbours but something is amiss! Predictable in parts, I enjoyed the last part of the book the best.

I give a 4 star rating and would recommend this novel

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK NETGALLEY FOR THE OPPORTUNITY OF READING AN ADVANCED COPY OF THIS BOOK FOR AN HONEST REVIEW

I received this book from the publishers via Netgalley for a review. A good solid psychological thriller.

Matt and Imogen are moving out of London for a much needed fresh start. That’s when they meet their neighbour; Nancy and her I’ll teenage daughter who she cares for.

Imogen and Nancy quickly become close friends so when Imogen becomes ill with a stomach bug she can’t get rid of it’s not strange that Nancy steps in to care for her too while Matt works.

Until Nancy makes a shocking accusation against Matt which forces Imogen to consider what is really going on. Can she figure it out before her new life starts spiralling out of control?

Adam Southward has written a compelling and suspenseful thriller with a jaw dropping final twist.

I initially struggled with the beginning of the book, I knew something was going to happen and I think it was a bit dragged out... however after that I couldn’t put it down! I love a book where I can work out what is happening and this had the added bonus of that ending!!

a truly terrifying story of a neighbour who takes charge.
I really felt for the main characters in this story who did nothing to deserve the neighbour from hell.
its a bit like car crash tv, the characters are threatened and then you have to sit back and watch what happens. you want to scream at the book for them to do something else.

I loved this and read it in one sitting

I love reading contemporary thrillers but have recently finished several told from so many different viewpoints that it was hard to keep up with the twists and turns or develop a deep understanding of the complexities of each individual character. Happily, Adam Southward’s new novel does not cause the same difficulties, with its plot resolutely focused on three protagonists: they are Matt and Imogen, who move out of the city to Surrey, hoping for a fresh start, and their new neighbour Nancy. But Matt and Imogen's hopes are dashed when Nancy raises a sinister accusation against Adam. But should Imogen really believe Nancy over Adam? Who is hiding secrets from whom? This was an enjoyable and compelling read that I savoured over a long, lazy weekend, and I totally recommend this novel which provides a breath of fresh air in a genre that is rapidly becoming crowded. I would like to say thank you to the publishers and to NetGalley for providing me with a free ARC in return for this honest and unbiased review.

The Stranger next Door tells the story of Imogen and Matt who move to a new house in quiet, salubrious Surrey for a new life after a mishap in London. They set about integrating into the new community, particularly with their friendly next door neighbour, Nancy, and slowly their lives start to unravel. Adam Southwood has produced a compelling thriller, deliciously suspenseful and intriguing. Some of the plotting was perhaps a little too obviously signposted and the psychologies of the two main characters were left wanting. Nevertheless, The Stranger Next Door is a very enjoyable read.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Headline Accent for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

An addictive book unusually written from both first and third person narrative focussing on three main characters. It uses this style well moving between them to carefully draw the reader into the fragile lives of Matt and Imogen and their new neighbour. Each reveals their own version of events which is compelling reading as the past is slowly revealed setting the scene for a gripping story with a twist and a dramatic end worth waiting for.

A domestic thriller with a truly unexpected twist. I loved the way the quiet suburban environment turned into something much more sinister as the story flowed to its surprising ending.

I don’t want to give anything away about this book. Utterly compelling I was forced to make time to keep reading which resulted in several nights of less sleep than normal! Matt, Imogen and their daughter Ashley start a new life in a gated community in Surrey. Then it comes to light why there was a need for said new life. Then into their lives comes neighbour Nancy. A complex character who turns out to be downright scary in nature! Cue wonderful new life quickly spiralling out of control for both Matt & Imogen! Well written and an author I will now keep an eye out for! Excellent!
