Set in Australia, this book is about Jill, and her three sons and their families. They are all travelling in convoy to spend Christmas in a holiday home, but get involved in a motorway accident.

At first, this seems like a drama novel but then we look at each character and their secrets, and what has brought them up to the point of the accident.

An excellent thriller that I would highly recommend.

What a read. Everytime I thought that I was beginning to know where a chapter was heading, off in another direction we went.
A family that seems to be doing well on the outside, is actually falling apart behind closed doors.
There are many lies to be uncovered, parents, sons, daughters in law, children.
One almighty car crash, and a family that needs to heal

Another family saga from Nicola Moriaty and another set of characters that you easily become invested in. This time 3 generations of the same family are planning their annual Christmas trip but is everything as it seems, many are hiding secrets.
Highly recommend.

You Need To Know - Nicola Moriarty

Wow! What a book!

Nicola very cleverly manages to juggle multiple characters (three brothers, their mother, two wives, an ex and four children) and makes them all real, and believable, they all have their engaging stories and a place in the much bigger picture.

I'm very partial to these Australian sunny domestic thrillers , and this is up there with the very best. The multiple characters, family lives, relationships and stresses and strains are conveyed with depth, style and humour and I found it very emotionally involving.

Just when I'd settled in to thinking this was more of a family drama about motherhood and alcohol, it all steps up a few gears and gets much, much darker.

When it all kicks off it is absolutely intense, grab you by the throat compulsive reading.

Very few books have taken me by surprise like this when they switch up, to get so dark and intense, so quickly and so brilliantly effectively.

You Need To Know. You need to read this book.

Very enjoyable book, with lots of secrets!

The main story is about a family (Jill, her three sons, their wives and their children) driving to their usual holiday home at Christmas, the first time after Jill's husband died on the way there last year, but a car accident changes everything, and we flip back and forth with all the characters and their lives that have got them to this point. I think nearly all of them are hiding something, some secrets more obvious, others more shocking.

But it's a definite page-turner, one of those books that you have to read one more page to see where the story is going next, never a dull moment.

I do really enjoy a Nicola Moriarty book anyway, and this one definitely doesn't disappoint.

Very different from previous Moriarty novels I’ve read. A good read but I can’t say I connected with it. It’s pacy and twisty but I just couldn’t really get in to it.

Another great book by Nicola Moriarty, kept me hooked from the start and had many twists that I didn’t seem coming. Easy to read and a satisfying ending. Highly recommend.

I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I have read several books by this author and invariably I enjoy them. This is no exception and whilst still of the mystery / thriller genre it seems very different from her other work. It seems pacier and the narrative is tightly controlled. The tale is told view multiple points of view as a family describes what for them has not been the best year since their husband / father died . It all is leading to a climax involving much more than the car accident which features at the end of each chapter.

The climax is created gradually almost like building a house or perhaps it is more of a house demolition. I love the characterisation - each of the central persona being far from saints, each fighting their individual battles. I enjoyed how the family relationships are built and, at times, destroyed.

Another winner from the Pen of this author

A great new book is rare. I’ve read all the Moriarty sisters books and this is superb. I have recommended to friends and have some books in my kindle by this author that I haven’t read so I’m going to read them ASAP. If they are half as good as these ones then I will be extremely happy.

It took me a little while to get into the book, I just couldn’t seem to connect with some parts of the story.
That aside, it’s a cleverly written twisty novel. I enjoyed the read and where the story went to I just had connection issues with certain parts of it.

You Need To Know is a very clever gripping and compelling Family drama. Set in Australia it tells the story of Jill and her 3 sons and their Families.but all is not as it seems as all of the families are hiding secrets and it takes a pile up on the motorway ,when they are all travelling in convoy going to the country house at Christmas, for the various secrerts to be revealed .This book is full of twists and turns and told through each main character it is a very enjoyable read .Many thanks to the Publisher ,the Author and NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest review.

I am a bit 'on the fence' with this book, it took me a while to get into the storyline and parts of it I found a bit confusing and couldn't really gel with the characters. Overall it was well written but unfortunately for me it wasn't a page turner and I was glad when I got to the end.

What a great book. Once I started I couldn't put it down. The story is about Jill, the grandmother, her 3 sons: Tony, Pete and Darren and their partners/wives/grandchildren. Jill is keeping a secret about Tony, secret she knows she should tell the family. Mimi, Pete's wife, has her own secret about her drinking and her feeling towards her newborn twins. Andrea and Tony seem to be happily married, but when Andrea raises the question about them having a baby, cracks in their marriage are starting to show.
Just when Jill decides enough is enough and wants to tell Mimi what's going on tragedy strucks. Will they ever find out?

Nicola Moriarty’s novels always has likable, believable characters ... and You Need To Know certainly as a handful of those. This fast-paced read jumps from past (by just a year) to present, and revolves around a woman and her grown-up sons and their families. Nicola deals - sympathetically - with some tough issues about family dynamics, secrets and motherhood ... and about just how far a parent will go to protect a child. Hugely enjoyable.

Compelling and far more layered than I anticipated. There were a lot of different perspectives and it was sometimes difficult to remember which was which, but that may be more due to my terrible memory than the book! The regular snippets of the accident really kept me hooked and kept me guessing. A great read.

Grandmother Jill, sons Tony, Pete and Darren, respective partners and grandchildren travel in convoy on Christmas Eve to their holiday home. However, a serious road traffic accident halts their progress. The story is told from several points of view and at the accident scene.

First of all, initially I find the pace of the build up to be slow but it’s well worth hanging in there as once certain revelations come to the fore we learn this outwardly close knit family has some major issues and problems which pulls you into the storyline. One of these is of a particularly serious magnitude which comes as a real shock. The tone alters as we come to appreciate that some issues have been shoved under the carpet as one character resembles an ostrich with its heard firmly embedded in the sand with serious ramifications. I really like the unpredictability of this as you don’t see it coming, the book then becomes gripping with some good moments of tension especially at the accident site. There are several thought provoking themes such as motherhood with questions like ‘am I a good mother?’, ‘do I want to be a mother?’. It also examines mother/child relationships and the varying emotions that entails. The relationships and dynamics between the characters becomes fascinating although there are a lot of characters to get your head around which to begin with is a bit overwhelming. However as you read on and become more familiar with them this ceases to become an issue. Jill the grandmother is very likeable but she does have major blind spots which she has to come to terms with. The most likeable character is son Darren although with one exception most are likeable but flawed. I like the way the story builds and builds as dilemmas of degrees of seriousness come to the fore and you realise this has the potential to be volcanic. The accident is so well described that your heart is in your mouth as the novel reaches a breathtaking climax.

Overall, the slow burner start cleverly layers the tension and issues and so becoming immersive reading.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Penguin Michael Joseph for the arc in return for an honest review.

This novel kept me reading as the various individual stories are revealed and the events leading up to the car crash unfold, divulging the challenging situations each of the characters are facing.

Was really excited to read this book and it didn’t disappoint. The story follows what I seemingly a normal family who have suffered loss but as the story unfolds a darker story emerges. Keeps you gripped until the end .
