Eat Plants Feel Whole is an exceptionally well documented book almost to the degree it’s a textbook on nutrition rather than a cookbook. If you really want in-depth information on plant based foods this has it all and more. Honestly, I had trouble staying focused on the text it was so overly kaden with nutritional facts and information. So for that it’s probably the most comprehensive book I’ve seen. As far as a cookbook I could do with a lot less of that and more recipes with an if your interested in in-depth information on eating plant based foods please check out my in-depth companion book of all the details. I would probably go for both and enjoy it way better that way. This is just too much packed together for my taste but I simply can’t deny the valuable information included. So great book just a bit to technical for me lol 😂 m. Don’t discount it for that though this book is probably right up the alley for someone wanting all the information available with a smattering of recipes.

This book is heavy on nutritional information seems like a biology text book i had on university, and gets heavy to read
I love greens and vegetable, a lot and i believe strongly that these are choices that impact one’s health. It would be a good book to have as a resource on macronutrients, micronutrients, and other current topics. Each section of the book is summarized at the end in a way that I felt was helpful.
The recipes are a lot BUT though many of the recipes include ingredients they are difficult to find or spicy or not so common to find or really expensive.

A good read,, very interested and thought-provoking. It's given me lots of inspiration and motivation to eat healthier.

Overall, this is a nice and informative read. Guthrie includes many studies that are backed by science. However, I do think he fails to realize that the plan he prescribes doesn't work for everyone. Yes, whole foods that are minimally processed are always healthier, but many people function better with some amounts of meat in their diet. While forgoing it may be nice for the budget, many of us have seen our health suffer from following exactly what he suggests. Our bodies are all different so I would recommend being aware that his plan may not work for you, but the advice to eat whole unprocessed foods is sound for anybody. Thankfully, the book focuses more of its energy on the whole foods emphasis.

Thank you to #AdventHealthPress and #NetGalley for this review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

The first part of this book focuses on the science and benefits of a plant based diet and how the plan is set-up. The recipes at the end of the book look great and so many of them I would be interested in trying. A great educational read.

A great resource for anyone looking to understand the basics behind plant based nutrition. Also a great resource for someone is looking to make a drastic lifestyle change for health benefits. The recipes are not very inspiring, but at least they are good for you.

As a long time vegetarian and oftentimes vegetarian, I love finding books like this. When you're on a plant-based diet and you feel like you've read every book there's always another one that teaches you things you don't know as recipes to your arsenal and is just all around beneficial. This is one of those books.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Eat Plants Feel Whole is a fantastic guide with a wealth of information about eating a healthier plant based diet. This book gives information on diet, health benefits, the science behind this diet, nutrition and much much more.
There are recipes to follow and they sound delicious.
I'm looking to change my diet into a more plant based one and this book has given me a great understanding and starting point to go from.

I have been struggling with a newly diagnosed autoimmune arthritis. When I asked my rheumatologist if there were any diet changes that could help, she said become a vegetarian or vegan. I had already given up gluten despite loving to bake. As a foodie who loves meat and cheese, I am reluctant to go all in and become vegetarian. However, this book presents strong arguments for taking the plunge. The plan seems straightforward. The recipes look doable. My only gripe is the amount of soy and nightshades used as those are generally considered pro-inflammatory. Some of the recipes are gluten-free, but many are not. I'm reluctant to just substitute 1:1 gluten-free flour, especially for baking as it's a gamble if the end product will be palatable or edible. Overall, this book helped convince me to try a vegetarian diet for my health. Fingers crossed it works.

If you think a whole-food, plant-based diet is boring, bland, expensive, or difficult, you should read this book, by George Guthrie, M.D. who besides being a Family Physician, pursued extensive education in nutrition.
Dr. Guthrie focuses on the major non-infectious diseases-obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease-those that we see daily in family medicine. He explains how evidence shows that these are chiefly due to SAD-the Standard American Diet.
He explains in thorough but easy to understand language the components of nutrition beginning with the major categories-fats, carbohydrates, and protein. Then he reviews the micronutrients, that is vitamins and minerals. He made a point that we can get all of these we need from food, with supplements only needed in isolated cases.
He offers multiple examples of patients from his practice who transformed their health with this whole-food plant-based approach. (Using care to change details to protect confidentiality.) They lost weight, lowered blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol with less or even no or medication, and increased stamina.
Finally outlines in detail the whole-food, plant-based diet, which he emphasizes is not just another version of a vegan or vegetarian diet, which he says are not necessarily healthy. The book concludes with easy-to-follow recipes. I appreciated that the ingredients are ones that you are likely to already have at home, or available to buy at a regular food store, without the need to seek out a specialty store or buy online.
Even if you don’t have a chronic disease, this diet plan is worth considering as it can also prevent them. Before I read this book, I considered my eating habits healthy, but I discovered changes I can easily make for improvement. I think you will too.

Easy to understand. A great guidebook on a plant based diet and the reasons behind why it works. I recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about plant based diets or who are looking to get healthier.

Great good for anyone that has a small knowledge of a plant based diet. It’s a solid guide book for anyone that has a bit of knowledge but wants to go further with it.

While this book had a lot of information about a plant diet, I don't feel the information or recipes was any different than anything I had heard before. Some of the recipes did not appeal to me and felt quite dated. I also think the blurb had a lot of big claims that didn't quite stack up.

Thank you for the arc.

This is an insightful and well-researched look into the problems associated with the modern convenience diet and how hole-food, plant-based food choices can help to prevent and even reverse many of the associated health ills. With included plans and recipes, this is a great resource to use to get started!

Eat Plants Feel Whole provides information around using plant based foods in your diet. It is a useful reference book, however, the recipes were not particularly unique or appetising for me. It may be one for other readers

I did not read Guthrie's Eat Plants Feel Whole book as an educator.

Eat Plants, Feel Whole by George Guthrie was very well organized and easy to follow. I appreciated the various, well laid out sections with the specific and helpful information about connections to health. The information provided in the book was easy to follow and understand. The recipes at the end of the book were easy to understand with accessible ingredients to those who may live in smaller communities. I already recommended this book to several people to use with their healthcare businesses and clients.

I received this book for free from Netgalley. That did not influence this review.

Did I think this blog was not eclectic enough? Eat Plants Feel Whole by Dr. George E. Guthrie is different from everything I’ve reviewed before. It isn’t quite what I expected. (I didn’t read the description carefully enough.) Nevertheless, I’m glad to have gotten it from Netgalley. It was a worthwhile read. (Or should be. That remains to be seen.)

I requested the book already very aware of the benefits of a vegan or vegetarian diet. But as an unrepentant carnivore, I was looking for a not-so-drastic way to decrease meat and increase whole grains and vegetables. I thought this was a vegan recipe book. While there are recipes and meal plans at the end of the book, the first part is more instructional/motivational.

The author is a wellness physician who guides people toward healthier lifestyles. There are many anecdotes of patients who were able to reverse their diabetes, cholesterol elevations, lose weight, etc. There are also fairly comprehensive discussions of micro and macronutrients–how much do we need? Where can those nutrients best be found?

For readers who want a firm foundation before embarking on a new, healthier lifestyle, this book provides that. For those who want motivation to make a change, this book is certainly inspiring. It’s lengthy for all that, and I found myself skimming a good deal, though I slowed down when parts of the book hit home.

The recipes that I was hoping for come in the second half of the book. I had fully intended to try a few for this review. However, in what I consider a poor omen for committing to this particular lifestyle change, we suddenly have a lot going on in our lives (emerging from our pandemic antisocial stupor), and this review is so long overdue that I didn’t want to put it off any longer. Hopefully, in the not too distant future, I’ll post an update.

For now, this is a comprehensive guide to plant-based eating. If you are someone interested in what all that entails and how it could be beneficial, this book can help.

This is a good book on the wholesome of eating and how foods affect health. In-depth information on nutrition with examples and stories. I loved the 18 day meal plan and guidelines. There was a lot of information. I would have liked to have seen less recipes using tofu as I do not like the flavor and I know of plenty of plant-based eating that doesn't call for that, but it's all about preference. Otherwise, good information and helpful on getting started on an 18 day plan.
