You've got to love a Susan Lewis book, haven't you? Well, I know I'm always going to enjoy her brilliant storytelling skills, having read many of her books over the years.
I Have Something To Tell You was nothing short of a masterpiece, quite possibly one of her best, to date.
Jay is a defence lawyer, caught up in the early confusion of a new murder trial. She finds herself sucked up into this particular case more than others, as she tries her hardest to help her client, who she has a gut feeling about. He can't be guilty. Can he?
Meanwhile, in her personal life, she's dealing with trust issues. Fractured trust is never quite as strong after it's been shattered once, and she is finding that, even years after finding out her husband cheated on her.
With good reason, it seems.
There were so many twists and turns within each different part of the story. from Jay's relationship with Tom, her husband, to how she handles the murder case client, Blake, and all the investigations.
I Have Something To Tell You is a brilliant title for the book, where those words, or something similar, are uttered several times, bringing new tweaks to an already engaging story.
Thoroughly enjoyed this!
Many thanks, to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This story is about Jay, Jay is a lawyer who is married to Tom who is also a lawyer. They have two teenage children but their life together is not as perfect as it appears. Jay is called to defend a man whose wife was found tied up naked on her bed. Jay believes him to be innocent even though everything is stacked against him.

The main themes of the book is murder, betrayal, love & grief. I enjoyed the murder investigation part of the story but was not as keen on the part concerning her personal life and wished that the story could have just been focused on the murderer. The main character went beyond her duties in her investigation and I wasn’t sure how realistic that was. I admired the strength and determination of the main character. I think that I would have enjoyed it more if the book wasn’t as long.

An excellent read from this author which held my interest from beginning until the end. It was sad in parts but a storyline that just grabs you and you have to keep on reading.

I can thoroughly recommend this book and thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK for giving me the opportunity to read this brilliant book.

Overall good read, a definite book of fiction. Not my favourite book by this author, some truths revealed I'd suspected, final turning had an inkling that was the case.

This book took my breath away? I was so tempted to do something I've never done before and look at the ending - I was so desperate to find out what happened! Full of twists and turns, red herrings and cast full of characters who all had something to hide. Superbly crafted book, as are all Susan Lewis books of course but this one was particularly brilliant. I loved the characters and got so invested in their lives I couldn't put the book down from start to finish. Though I kind of suspected the ending, I was desperately hoping I was wrong. I really cared about these characters which speaks of the author's command of her craft. Highly recommend

Susan Lewis definitely knows how to craft a story with twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end! The protagonist, Jessica Wells, has a great career as a lawyer, is married and has two children, a boy and a girl. Life from the outside looks fairly idyllic, they enjoy a comfortable lifestyle, successful high flying careers and have good friends. It all starts to unravel however when husband Tom reluctantly drops a bombshell into the mix, Jessica also takes on a new client, Edward Blake, a seemingly mild mannered ordinary man,who brings far reaching effects on both her family and professional life. A great read!

I haven’t read a Susan Lewis for a long time and to be honest it wasn’t my favourite read this year. I found it a bit jumpy, I didn’t really like the characters that much and due to it being an advanced copy it didn’t read easily!
Will certainly look out for others as she used to be my fave.

Difficult to read and get into for several reasons:

Lots of chopping and changing between referring to people by their surname or first name, confusing on who is who and who is being referred to. This isn't marketed as a crime thriller and that technique only really works in established crime thriller series when the characters are quite well known.

Body image - overweight person is referred to as a slob - No other characteristics that seem to indicate that, just that they are overweight. Judgemental, and feels like the Authors bias is creeping in rather than a character construct.

Quite often had to remind myself that the main character is not a police officer - she regularly oversteps the boundaries, does a whole host of above and beyond investigating herself and holds on to crucial evidence.

The storyline - Jay could and should be a strong female lead in this book. Instead, extremely early on she is already basically imagining her client naked. Her character build up is weak, professionally, individually and as a Mum.

Used to really enjoy and love Susan's books but there's been a definite shift that's just not as carefully thought out or as gripping as it could be.

I am a fan of Susan Lewis work- she's got forty books on her account across the fiction genres. This book is one more example of how easy it is for her is to create a bestseller novel. You can observe the main character very closely - what I found to be very enjoyable. It makes a book very emotional, sensitive, even sensual. She is exposing the advantages and disadvantages of human nature with dark thoughts and emotions. Lewis touched on the everyday problems and revealed how unperfect we are. There is nothing that I can point out as a missing part of the story. Susan Lewis did exhaustive research to complete this book - from a forensic point of view to even to law procedures. Compelling and tense read!
I Have Something to Tell You - is definitely a book about human nature, how keen we are to burn deep down our secrets, how we all try to be helpful and how many times we ignore the truth. The main character - Jay Wells, is excellent - she's got charisma, passion, career and family. As a lawyer, she keeps herself very busy, doing everything she can to solve another case using her knowledge, commitment, and flair. In her personal life, you are slowly invited with every page, and you can discover that not everything is perfect. Human nature can be awful and not necessarily can help us to close old memories and grudge behind. The reader is beginning to know Jay when her world shakes. It was an astonishing book, full of twists and turns up.
Highly recommend that book for all fans of fiction literature.

Thank you, NetGalley and Harper CollinsUK Harper Fiction, for an ACR of this book.

Jay Wells is a lawyer, with what on the surface is the perfect life, good job, loving family - husband,Tom and 2 great kids, both getting ready to leave home. But when she found out her husband Tom had been having an affair for 3 years, she was devastated. Her work helped her get through it, and now she is defending Edward Blake, accused of murdering his wife.

This is an intriguing read, a great plot, enough twists and turns to keep everyone interested and a good ending. I liked most of the characters but I really couldn’t like Tom. I felt quite frustrated by him, his attitude and his self pity. However, it didn’t spoil a really good read. And I didn’t see the ending coming.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Another fabulous read from Susan. From a seemingly straight forward plot to a cleverly woven complex scenario this book is gripping from the start. A must read.

It's a long while since I read Susan Lewis novels but this has reignited my love for her stories.
Based around the tale of Jessica, a very successful lawyer in her field. I don't often read crime thrillers and I couldn't put it down.
It's very well written but is a long novel. The characters are compelling and realistic.
Thanks to#NetGalley for the advance copy in return for an honest review.

A great read which draws you in from the very beginning. Susan Lewis is adept at developing her characters and identifying their weaknesses alongside their strengths. I have not read anything by this author before but will certainly look out for her in future.
Thank you Susan, Netgalley and Random House for giving me the opportunity to give my unbiased opinion.

WOW WOW WOW!!!

Firstly I do not want to give the story away - the synopsis gives a brief overview.

I loved this book as it was full of so many mixed emotions and tells the story of Jessica Wells, a successful lawyer, with a perfect family life or so it seems. Reading on we discover that it’s not so perfect and Jessica has many difficulties in her marriage and also defending Edward Blake to whom she feels an attraction.

This book has reignited my interest towards Susan Lewis, having read several other books this has to be one of her best yet. Really loved the way it was concluded with such an un expected twist that kept me fully engrossed. Would highly recommend.

I was gripped by this book throughout. The twists and turns of the investigation made for a compelling read. I couldn't stand Jay's husband, Tom. What world was he living in? He didn't seem to grasp the magnitude of what he'd done. I really liked Edward, and of course, Jay, the main protagonist. And oh! The dog. That part was written so well, with such sensitivity. But what let this book down for me was the ending. I didn't expect such a bleak ending from a Susan Lewis book and I felt a bit let down because of it. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have something to tell you...

The words we all dread to hear!

Susan Lewis has smashed it yet again with this gripping family drama.

I raced though this one I could not put it down, the suspense and suspicion was there right till the end.

I guess the only criticism I have is I didn't want it to end and if that's not the sign of a great read then I don't know what is.

WoW! WoW! WoW! What an absolute mind spinning, thrilling story this was!
I had a really hard time putting my Kindle down to do my Adult responsibilities.

I seem to be going against the reviewing tide here but I wasn’t enthralled by this book and found rather long-winded, with a plethora of excess adjectives in almost every sentence. The story line was intricate and interesting enough, but the characters were difficult to empathise with and not entirely believable, except for the dog who was described with compassion and understanding. I’m more than willing to accept that other readers have and will enjoy this book more than I did.

Susan Lewis has written another West Country set complex thriller with plenty of human interest and interesting characters. There is a great twist at the end as well. So step into the worlds of the Bristol legal offices and the homes of the elite of South Gloucestershire and lose yourself in this book.

Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book.
