Another sure fire hit by the Queen on criminal fiction!

Susan Lewis, has in my opinion, secured another number 1 bestseller! HOWEVER I was bitterly, disappointed by the twists in the final few chapters and it is hard for me to discuss the book without giving away spoilers and I’m definitely not a fan of spoiler reviews.

The book centres around lawyer Jay, her chambers, her friends and family and her latest client, Edward Blake, situated in Bristol. Jay is required to act as the lawyer for Edward after his wife is found murdered at their family home. The book mainly focuses on his case and whether he did or didn’t and it does give a challenging insight into how things are dealt with by various criminal, defence and prosecution services. Jay does her best to get to the truth despite the stumbling blocks she keeps coming to.

She is highly successful lawyer as is her husband Tom they’ve two children Charlie and Livvy. Tom has had an unfair some years previously and the children are unaware of this. But despite the fact the couple seem fo of moved forward something always brings it back to the fore.

I did really enjoy the character development of the main roles in the book as well as all the amount of research that has been done to progress the story and despite the fact that I found the ending to be somewhat weak it is believable.

So without giving anymore away I definitely recommend this book but make sure you keep a clear, open mind and keep up with all the details no matter how insignificant they may appear as you may just need to remember them to realise why the book comes to the conclusion that it does.

This novel is essentially about infidelity and its impact on two families.
Jessica (Jay) Wells is a high flying defence lawyer based in Bristol, with a team of co-workers including private investigators and forensic scientists (which seems a bit OTT for a provincial chambers). She is a well-drawn character, but rather annoying. She is married to Tom, a prosecution lawyer in a different chambers and they have two children in their late teens. A couple of years before he had had an affair, but she has forgiven him and they seem to have a happy and stable life. For reasons of plot rather than logic she had never investigated the mistress. You just know it’s all going to fall apart.
Handsome and urbane, Edward (Ed) Blake is a high flying architect and property developer, married to Vanessa (Nessa). Some years ago, their only child had drowned during a family holiday and Nessa blames Ed for letting this happen, although she and the other family members in the holiday group are equally culpable. One morning Ed awakes to find Nessa – supposedly staying with a friend in London – naked, tied to the bed in the guest room, and dead by suffocation. Ed is the only suspect, since his story is that she must have been dead when he came home from work the previous evening, and that he had had no reason to look in the guest room until the morning.
Jay is retained to defend him and this part of the plot develops like a fairly straightforward police procedural, only it is her team doing this with the police apparently floating along behind. Neither of the two officers involved seem to be very competent and one of them is probably responsible for ‘mislaying’ a DNA sample (again, this feels like a plot device to spin out the story rather than a logical occurrence). It quickly becomes clear that Nessa has been a serial seducer of more or less every man she has met, which should have rendered Ed’s arrest unsafe almost immediately. But here, as elsewhere in her personal life, Jay’s actions often appear illogical.
This could have been a much better book if some plot issues had been better handled and judicious pruning had reduced its length but enhanced its fluidity. However, I can see that some readers might be more invested in Jay’s personal life than I was and for them this would feel like a different book.
I would like to thank NetGalley, the publishers and the author for providing me with a draft proof copy for the purpose of this review.

Jay and Tom appear to have it all, successful careers, lovely friends and plenty of free time now their children are older. A betrayal from the past resurfaces and threatens their future. When Jay represents a client who is accused of killing his wife a connection develops as they both can relate to hurt and betrayal from their spouses. Susan Lewis has created an interesting plot which delivers all the way through and I did not predict the twist at the end. One of my favorite books ever. I need the story to continue as I need to know what happens.

I struggled to stick with this book and I wasn’t actually invested in it until at least 45% of the way through. There were too many characters and the way the narrator kept referring to them by their nicknames or surnames made it even more confusing. The plot was good and came together well in the end but I would not have finished the book if it wasn’t for a review.

My thanks to NetGalley and publisher HarperCollins UK, Harper Fiction, for the ARC.

Wow! this is an amazing read. I didn't want to put it down - only it is lengthy, so had to take a couple of breaks
Very well-written, with good characters and believable dialogue. - the narrative flowed at a steady pace and I was thoroughly hooked.

Jay Wells is the duty solicitor when she's called upon to represent Edward Blake. He awoke one morning to find his wife Vanessa in a guest bedroom - dead, and he's the only suspect the police have. Edward only knows that he dropped his wife at the station the day before and assumed she was staying with a friend in London. He's in a desperate situation.
Jay is happy with her life with husband Tom, a QC at another chambers, except for an affair he had conducted three years previously. When Tom tells her they need to talk - "I have something to tell you" - Jay's personal life starts a steady and emotional descent into turmoil.
Juggling her personal and professional life, Jay and her team explore the evidence against Edward - as she and investigator Joe both conclude that Edward's family and Vanessa's friends all appear to be hiding something. There is something they are not saying and Jay is sure Edward is innocent even though subsequent revelations give him more than enough motive to kill.

This is a heart-wrenching story about relationships betrayal and impossible choices.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

Jessica is a High-flying lawyer, who has everything, her career that’s going really well, a husband who loves her as well as her family who she cherishes. She’s takes on one case, and it’s client, which will put all that she’s got at risk. The client Edward, who lives a simple, normal life which now has been turned on it’s head, a man who was watching TV, whilst, somewhere in the house, his wife was being killed?? This case has got loads more questions than answers and it’s filled with far too many knots to undo that Jessica, is sure his trying to protect someone.

Jessica(Jay) is contacted to be his defendant, a person whose wife has been found dead, tied to the bed. She believes him to be not guilty, but everything that is uncovered is saying the opposite.

The story is full of so many twists and emotions, both professionally and personally for Jessica.

The story, of murder, loyalty, love and betrayal. Jay, along with trying to find evidence to prove her client innocent, has to also us deal with her husband Tom's infidelity.

Is Edward really innocent, or is there something he’s not telling her………

Recommend this book.

I Have Something to Tell You by Susan Lewis 5*****
Pub Date 16 September 2021
High-flying lawyer Jay Wells has it all. A successful career, loving husband Tom and a family she adores. But one case – and one client – will put all that at risk.
Edward Blake. An ordinary life turned upside down – or a man who quietly watched television while his wife was murdered upstairs? With more questions than answers and a case too knotted to unravel, Jay suspects he's protecting someone.
Then she comes home one day and her husband utters the words no one ever wants to hear. Sit down, because I have something to tell you….
Now Jay must fight not only for the man she defends but for the man she thought she trusted with her life – her husband.
I have Something To Tell You is another super read by author Susan Lewis; the plot explores a culmination of murder, betrayal, love, intensity, trust and perception.
Rounded characters are presented to us, each with their imperfections that come to life at the turn of each page and with plenty of twists and turns positioned in just the right places make this story a
captivating and compulsive read; I really enjoyed it and am happy to recommend it.
I want to thank NetGalley, HarperCollins UK HarperFiction and author Susan Lewis for a pre-publication copy to review.

High-flying lawyer Jessica Wells has it all. A successful career, loving husband Tom and a family she adores. But one case - and one client - will put all that at risk. Edward Blake. An ordinary life tuned upside down - or a man who quietly watched tv while his wife was murdered upstairs? With more questions than answers and a case too knotted to unravel, Jessica suspects he's protecting someone.

Filled with twists and mixed emotions, we learn of the life of Jessica Wells. a successful lawyer with a loving husband and a family she adores. Jessica is called out to defend Edward Blake, whose wife had been found naked, tied to the bed and murdered. Jessica (Jay) believes him to be innocent but the evidence is stacked against him.

This is a story of murder, love, loyalty and betrayal. Jay is also struggling with her husband Tom's infidelity. The characters are well developed and intriguing but I did not like Tom for several reasons. I did like Edward and Jay. The pace was steady and the story was interesting until it got near the end, and the ending (for me) spoilt the whole book.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #HerperCollinsUK #HarperFiction and the author #SusanLewis for my ARC of #IHaveSomethingToTellYou in exchange for an honest review.

Susan lewis never fails to deliver. I love the way I am instantly transported to and submerged into the world she creates.

The story is a tale of love, betrayal and family. Jay is a lawyer who is handed a defence job for a suspected wife-killer. Her husband is a barrister who she is trying to forgive for an affair a few years ago.

The story follows the trials and tribulations of Jay as she tries to defend her client and manage her family affairs. The two worlds become entangled and Jay has to make choices for herself.

I was gripped throughout, and tied up in moral questions throughout of what would I do in the same circumstances?

Susan Lewis always gives a good read and this one did not disappoint.

Jessica Wells is a barrister who is called to defend Edward, who stands accused of killing his wife. Jessica needs to uncover what happened the night his wife died in order to dispel what looks like an open and shut case.

At the same time, cracks start to reappear in her own marriage, and she must confront some hard truths about her husband’s fidelity.

This is a thought provoking read with some surprising twists and turns. I didn’t always agree with some of the choices Jessica made but it made me think and I can’t wait for it to be released so that I can talk to someone about it! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

When I found out Susan Lewis had written a new book I couldn’t wait to read it and what a book it is!,, it never fails to surprise me how she can continue to write books which have completely different storylines and settings but still be so enjoyable and relatable.

Jay is a hardworking solicitor whose latest case is defending a man who is accused of murdering his wife. All the evidence points at her client Ed being guilty but Jay believes otherwise and she puts her heart and soul into finding out the truth.

Jay is struggling in her personal life. Her husband Tom has been unfaithful and although initially Jay feels she can forgive and forget she is finding it more difficult as time progresses.

The book explores many difficult topics … murder, infidelity, love and trust. I was invested in all the wonderful characters each had their flaws but I was hoping for a happy ending for them all . This was a great read and one I would definitely recommend..

Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. I really like Susan Lewis' books and found this to be a real return to form after a couple which I didn't enjoy so much. The story was gripping, and I really liked Jay as a character (would love her to be another recurring figure like Andee Lawrence). Whilst elements of the plot were implausible, this didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story. Looking forward to her next book.

Jessica "Jay" Wells is a defence lawyer with a share in her own firm of solicitors. Married to Tom. They have two teenage children. Tom has cheated on her in the past but she forgave him and they have moved on........

She is called in to represent a man named Edward Blake, convicted of murdering his wife by tying her to the bed in their guest room and leaving her naked for all the world to discover. After meeting and speaking to him she believes him to be innocent, but now she has to go about proving it to others.

There was a lot of emotions running through this book and many twists and turns but it didn't take away from the fact that it was a good story which i enjoyed.
I did feel that Jay went above and beyond her duties as a lawyer which i felt wouldn't be true in the real wrold, but this was fiction so acceptable.
All in all a gripping book which i waould recommend.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. xx
