The formatting of this book is very confusing. There are no page breaks so the transitions between scenes is jolting. This sometimes also makes it difficult to tell who is speaking or if something is being thought rather than said. As a result, I stopped reading this book.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Unnatural by Luke Fitzpatrick in exchange for an honest review. This was an interesting book. I am fascinated by the idea of people having supernatural powers, what would it be like to be able to fly, read people's minds, turn invisible, or change into something else? How much would our personality or base nature affect our actions? If a moral person had powers would they act differently than an immoral one?

Great book. I was pleased to meet young teenagers all around the world with new strange powers and how they are trying to learn to leave with it.I enjoyed all the characters but I did not like all the swearing, it would have been great without, in my opinion.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own." Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for this book.

This book was so difficult to get through. It was too drawn out and would benefit from being shortened. There are too many different character storylines within the book and the characters wind of blurring together. I often forgot who had what ability. Also, it took WAY too long to bring the characters together. I lost interest in everyone doing their own thing and needed the main plot to kick in much sooner than it did to keep me hooked. I just felt like I was reading 5+ different stories which was confusing and not enjoyable. This book gives off X-men vibes so it may be something someone enjoys but I would not recommend this to anyone.

Unnatural

[Blurb Goes Here]

Unnatural, not unlike the Heroes TV series, is the story of various individuals that unexpectedly find they have unnatural powers, while one can lift things and even himself with his mind, another can transform into a deadly creature. Unknown to most, the individuals are being hunted by a Japanese business man, the CEO of a large corporation. He wants to help those individuals and teach them how to control their new found powers. Or that much he says.

The story is fast paced and character driven. The characters are going through changes and you can see how they evolve.

I wasn't to kin on the ending though, it's a cliff hanger giving us a glimpse into the next installment, one that will be all too familiar for fans of the Heroes TV series. Still I recommend this read, It was fun and at times a bit scary.

Thank you for the advanced copy!

I had some expectations with this one and sadly it just didn't quite deliver. I was expecting a dark mystery book but what I got was a mediocre book that was a mash up between Xmen and a superhero comic book suitable for a teenager minus the offensive scenes and language.

The part that really did it for me was Johnathan's chapters. Every sentence he had with his friend contained at least one swear word. Now I'm not a prune when it comes to vulgar language but this was just painfully unbearable. It ruined the book for me. At first I tried to skip those chapters but in the end I missed so much of the story, I couldn't keep up with what was going on.

But thank you to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for the gifting of the ARC.

DNFR @ 34%.

I wouldn't usually review or rate a book that I have DNFR, but I feel like I need to give my reasoning behind why I couldn't finish this one.

From the start, I picked up on how similar it felt to the X-men series (absolutely nothing wrong with taking inspiration from media already out there) but this immediately made me think critically about this book. I adore the X-men series and I was having a hard time thinking how this book would live up to it.

As we changed from chapter to chapter we ended up being introduced to 4 or 5 different characters, which is A LOT to take in, especially with their abilities.

I also felt that the chapters featuring Jonathan lacked in quality compared to the others within the book. These chapters didn't have the same feel to them as the previous and following chapters, they felt very descriptive and featured large, heavy blocks of text instead of actually progressing the story.

I don't think it helped that despite these characters having telekinetic powers they just wanted to fly around...

The other characters focused on within the book, however, were well written, brought something different each to the story, and had really interesting abilities. I loved how they were open with their families about these abilities and how their family members reacted.

On the whole, the characters in Unnatural certainly were interesting enough but the large blocks of text and excessive description made this book incredibly hard to read, it was like wading through treacle at points.

I DNFR at 34% but it honestly felt like I should have been much further into the book with how much I had already read.

This was very much out of my reading comfort zone. I decided to request this to try this genre out a little more and it just didn't hit for me. Giving a three start as this was not my taste of story but there wasn't inherently wrong with it.

This book reminded me of a mix of Heroes, The Boys, and X-men. Unfortunately I had to DNF. The part I did read was good I did have a hard time keeping up with the numerous characters.

This is the perfect horror/sci-fi/fantasy multi-genre!

I really enjoyed this book and it gave me X-Men/Avenger vibes. I really felt like the author had immersed me into a comic book and I was totally here for it!

Personally, I think this would make a brilliant tv show and did remind me of Heroes at times. Especially through the different POVs.

The only negative would be that there were quite a few characters, which I feel prevented me from being able to connect to anyone in particular. The beginning is definitely a slow burner- but if you push through the first 100 pages or so you will not be disappointed!

UNNATURAL by Luke Fitzpatrick 3 stars

REMINDS YOU OF X-MEN SERIES

This book will remind you of the X-Men series that is of action and sci-fi genres. This novel is of horror, sci-fi, and fantasy genres. Teenagers from around the globe are finding out that they have super abilities. Not necessarily abilities they are happy to have, but abilities that they can't get rid of or change.

The teens with these astounding abilities are slowly able to control these abilities and come together to work as a team. This changes the earth forever.

The blurb appealed to me, but I found after several attempts to read the book, I was unable to get interested in the book. It would probably appeal to you if you appreciated the horror, sci-fi, and fantasy genres.

I received a complimentary copy of #unnatural @unnatural from #netgalley @booksgosocial #booksgosocial I was under no obligation to post a review.

This was a well-written and well-edited book. Kudos to the author!
I love SF&F and this is up there with some of the best authors.
The cliffhanger was annoying - but only because I wanted to read more!
Definitely recommend

Interesting.
I liked the opening few pages, it grabbed my interest which is what a book should do. The cover design is spot on for the genre of this book. I am a believer in finishing a book before reviewing it, this will take you a minimum of 9 hours I'd say, I read this over 3 days breaking that up, luckily we had some sun so all good for garden reading.

What can I say about the book? Overall the characters are well developed, I felt like I knew every single one and their personalities fairly well. I liked some a disliked others so had an emotional connection. The darker chapters and gory ones were done very well and as the book went on, past chapter 20, I became more invested and felt the writing became quite professional.

I like the new style this book goes for and would say it is quite unique. I haven't read a story like it, the cliffhanger leading to the second book was great and no one will see it coming. By the end of the book, I felt like the writer had found their style and nailed it and the second book will surely be something truly special.

Overall I like this book, for a self-published book it felt worlds above what I have read in the past, very professional and lacking mistakes, you can tell it was edited well.
If you like Stephen King it has that sort of style and story, the horror is light in most chapters, much more Sci-Fi storytelling goes on. It does get much darker near the end. Would also appeal to comic fans, horror, or Marvel fans.

My one bit of advice... finish the book! I saw one review where they did not and honestly, I can understand if you only read two or three chapters you may see it as average. Sit down with a good tea or coffee and read for a good couple of hours,
I am glad I gave it a chance, very, very surprised by this! And very curious to see where the series goes.

I hate giving bad reviews.... But this was a DNF for me!
I'm hoping it's the reading slump I'm in.... So I'm gonna come back to this at a later time!
