Brace yourself for this fast paced novel. Cora, a former nurse is on board a flight from Seattle to Honululu to go to a commendation ceremony for her late husband. Asha, a cleaner for the airline is contacted by terrorists and her family in Somalia are threatened with death if she doesn't carry out their demands. Once on board, it's hard to know who to trust.
The author has written a great novel and is very informative about flight procedures.
Many thanks to Netgalley and publishers for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are my own

The book was fast-paced with multiple POVs. The author surprised me with her elaborate knowledge of flight's mechanism. It was interesting.

The multiple POV chapters and cliffhangers they left with them had me wishing I could read more when I was sleepy.

The only thing I wished was if I could engage more with the emotional aspects of the characters. But it didn't happen.

If you are looking for a quick-paced thriller. Go for it. It's a great read.

This was a fast-paced thriller that I quickly devoured over the past day. The alternating plotlines kept the story moving and allowed the different plotlines to not drag along. We have the story of the titular pilot's daughter who is a recent widow traveling to Samoa via Hawaii to accept an award for her late husband. An airline cleaning crew member forced to participate in a dangerous act. The wife of a millionaire trying to visit Hawaii to see her niece. That pharmaceutical CEO millionaire forced to reckon with his past mistakes. A detective on the flight heading to Hawaii to apprehend a criminal. A flight attendant placed into the chaotic situation of the hijacking. The short chapters alternating between these characters made this a very easy read because you never spent too long in any one story.

While I found the story thrilling, there was a lack of characterization among the large cast that made it harder to engage emotionally with the story. The end of the book dragged a little as a result but I still found myself enjoying the ride. The book does all it needed to do as a thriller which was thrill me. The author did a great job with the research in how airplanes work so that after reading this book, I feel like I have an outside chance of landing a plane (knowing full well that I would panic in the moment and fail).

I will definitely recommend this book if you are in need of a quick and thrilling read.
Thank you to Netgalley for the copy of this book in return for a review.

If you are looking for something to read on a long flight, don’t pick up this book. If both your feet are on land, settle down in a comfortable chair and read The Pilot’s Daughter. You won’t be able to put it down!

Cora is the pilot’s daughter. A nurse, she’s a widowed mother of two small children on a trip to accept an award in honor of her late husband. Her seatmate is Kyle, a Seattle homicide detective on his way to Honolulu to make an arrest. Hours into the flight, both pilots are dead and two hijackers have been killed. How many hijackers are on the plane? How did they smuggle weapons onto the plane? Is a first class passenger, the girlfriend of a pharmaceutical billionaire, a target? And, the most important question… who will land the plane?

Part mystery, part romance and 100% thriller, Lost Souls is unputdownable. The plot bounces back and forth between the drama on the plane, the investigation on land, and the actions of characters before and during the hijacking. It’s a gripping, tense and compelling read. If I ever get on a plane again, I want to be next to Cora! 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, BooksGoSocial and Audrey J. Cole for this ARC.

A flight to paradise is hijacked. The pilots are shot dead. Is there anyone now onboard who can fly and then land this plane. This is the plot of The Pilot’s Daughter and it delivers both suspense and fear in equal measure. Not until the very end does the reader know if anyone will survive. 5-Stars. I received a complimentary copy of this book and the opinions expressed are my own. #ThePilotsDaughter #NetGalley

As a frequent flyer (pre-covid), my attention was held hostage by this fast and intense read. The pilot's daughter, Cora, is a nurse. Her gut tells her not to board Pacific Air Flight 385, especially after her husband died in a helicopter crash recently. She is terrified of leaving her children behind. Flying is the last thing she wants to do but follows through. Meanwhile, a woman and her team cleans and readies the aircraft. She has had upsetting news but goes on with her day.

Cora finds herself seated next to Homicide Detective Kyle Adams and across from the whiny girlfriend of a wealthy businessman. Everything goes smoothly (except for the eyerolling whining) until a hijacking shatters lives forever. Emotions run high and fear ripples throughout the aircraft as life and death hang in the balance at 35,000 feet.

Though bits are unbelievable (such as the romance), the book's pace and action are riveting. Learning more about what goes on in the cockpit was fascinating. I cannot wait to resume air travel but undoubtedly will recall some of the details mentioned here.

Thriller readers ought to grab this book and buckle in! Well worth your time.

My sincere thank you to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for the privilege of reading this page turner.

This was a creative plot with all the makings of an excellent thriller. From the beginning, I was invested in learning how the plane would become hijacked, how the pilot's daughter would end up having to fly, and how the different, seemingly unrelated stories would come together. I appreciated the detail related to the inner workings of the plane, particularly those parts that happened in the cockpit.

Unfortunately, while the plot of the story has a lot of potential, the execution fell flat. The characters weren't believable. I wanted more of their back stories, more of their internal reflection, more of their motivation. Also, there wasn't any real thrill to this story. Even in the moments that should have been incredibly tense, there was no build up, no emotion. I mean... it's a plan hijacking! I should be scared and tense and sweaty! But the events happened so quickly that there wasn't an opportunity for me to get engaged.

For example, the opening scene is a of a woman getting a video of her family being kidnapped and her uncle being murdered and then she's told she'll need to pick up a package and deliver it to a specific spot and if she doesn't, then her entire family will be murdered. Then her colleague says, basically, "hey we gotta go or we'll be late" and she says okay, puts her phone away and heads to work. There's no description of her face, her emotions, no thought process. It's just not a believable execution of this moment.

Plus, there's an unrealistic mix of purportedly tense moments with romantic tension, as though anyone who is working to survive a hijacking would be thinking about making out with someone they'd just met.

Mainly, I think it felt underdeveloped, almost as though an outline of plot events was written and then dialogue was filled in around it. It reminded me in some ways of a Hi-Lo reader for high schoolers who are struggling readers, where for simplicity's sake everything happens so quickly that it's sometimes hard to get engaged in the story. But if you're interested in a quick, low stakes read, this may be for you.

Readers interested in a plane based thriller would be better off with Noah Hawley's Before the Fall.

The Pilots Daughter has a lot of promise, especially in the world today where all peaceful countries are concerned about the latest terror threat. The premise is excellent with the main plot being really fast paced and keeps the reader guessing and wanting more. I was a little disappointed though with the amount of clues the author gave out during the story which made a potentially brilliant read seem predictable.

Welcome aboard Pacific Air Flight 385, with nonstop service from Seattle to Honolulu.

Please fasten your seatbelts.

You’ll feel like you’ve been ripped from your seat and placed into the headlines from the front page of the latest news! Because readers are privy to behind-the-scenes action at the airport, we know the danger for the passengers even before they board the flight. The author deftly taps into this tension and fear to write this compelling thriller. I had to remind myself to breathe. It’s addictive and fast paced from the first to the last page. Above all, it’s so believable that it’s scary.

A 737 with 154 souls on board has been hijacked. Before long there’s six dead including both pilots, flight attendants, and passengers. The tension escalates as those in charge have difficulty knowing who to trust. There’s no wifi, the motive remains a mystery, and the aisles are filling with bodies. Can the woman in the cockpit land the plane or is she not to be trusted either? How did 2 guns get smuggled onto the plane?

Because Cole is able to juggle several narratives at once, readers don’t get bogged down reading about the hijack. She expertly introduces us to people involved in the flight from the lowly cabin cleaning crew to the billionaire’s girlfriend. Each one has a story. Your heart will ache because you know what’s at stake for some of the passengers. Your inner detective will take over and try to establish the motive before the plane lands.

The success of this thriller is partly due to Cole’s co-author, her father and a retired Alaskan Airlines pilot. Who better to write the cockpit scenes than someone who knows it inside out? Cole reveals that she’s taken flying lessons and tried out the flight simulator. No amount of research can replace hands on experience. The fact that Cole is a RN helps with the authenticity of the injury scenes. Finally, Cole is an established crime writer who is more than capable of pacing the plot to keep readers on the edge of their seat.

I was gifted this advance copy by Audrey Cole, BooksGoSocial, and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

terrorism, teamwork, threats, thriller, airplane-disaster, romance****

A quick, intense read involving the lives of several specific people with regard to a hijacked commercial plane over the Pacific. There are the perspectives of those selected who are essential to the closely interwoven plot, and that's what makes this tale so riveting. The publisher's blurb is a good hook and I read it in one day.

Rounding up to a 4. Interesting, but i didn't find this to be a thriller. (Possibly due to Siri text to audio feature?)

So to summarize plot, your husband dies in a helicopter crash, you have two young children. You aren't especially thrilled to take a flight. And of course its highjacked. There are some twists; which is why I decided to round up to a 4. I hate to provide much more detail on the plot, likely I'd spoil part of it. Once I started the book, I finished without moving on to other books.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher (BoosGoSocial) and the author Audrey J. Cole for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review. Publication date is 04 June 2021.

SO COMPULSIVE I read it in one sitting!

I am sure the airline industry is THRILLED that just when it’s customers are returning to the skies, we have not ONE but THREE flights getting hijacked this SUMMER!

So, which one should you book a seat on?

Well, I have read TWO out of the THREE, so far, and BOTH flights have been worth reading about!
Action packed-but different enough from one another that you couldn’t possibly grow bored!

Pacific Air flight 385, a 737 from Seattle to Honolulu with 143 souls onboard has been hijacked.

Six people are dead including the pilots, and several flight attendants, the flight has no WI-FI, and the motive for the hi jacking remains a mystery.

When the only other person onboard, with flying experience becomes incapacitated, the passengers have to rely on a Pilot’s daughter, who has had some flying lessons, and a Seattle Homicide detective to save their lives.

And, they have veered so off course, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, that they cannot even be located on radar!

This thriller is FAST paced, and meticulously researched.

Author Audrey Cole, an RN and writer of six crime thrillers set in Seattle, gets the details of flying, and Inflight cabin procedures MOSTLY right, with just a few tweaks used to propel the plot forward and as a 25+ year flight attendant, myself...I know.

You may want to locate your life vest, and pay attention to your flight attendant’s safety briefing the next time you fly! 👩🏻‍✈️

You know, just in case!

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.

This was a quick and exciting read, with chapters from the perspectives of a variety of characters, including detective Kyle and nurse Cora (the pilot's daughter) who are both passengers on the hijacked plane, the airport employee responsible for placing a gun on board, the President of the US and her advisors, and also the wealthy boyfriend of one of the passengers. The details about how to fly a plane were really interesting, and the different perspectives kept the story moving without becoming confusing.

There were a few little things which seemed unlikely to me (would the US really carry out the sort of mission in Somalia described here, for example?), but my main quibble was the romance, which seemed very accelerated and also surely the last thing that would be on your mind in the perilous situation described.

Recommended otherwise though.

Get ready for takeoff and welcome aboard Pacific Air Flight 385! Going to Honolulu ....

None of the 42 passengers could have predicted the turbulent flight that they were about to experience (myself included.) I'm sure I held my breath more than once!

This one takes off pretty fast and was quite addictive. I always wanted to pick it up and the characters were vivid and I had a soft spot for several of them. I was invested in their journey. I was entertained and couldn't have predicted the different paths this flight took me on.

There are a few different narratives going on and it really added layers to the overall story (more than just action). There are hi-jackers, two guns, no wi-fi, an interesting manifest, and a hunk of a detective who likes to read old revenge novels!!

I really enjoyed the ending!

I loved that this book was written in many different perspectives, it really left you questioning everyone’s motives. Plot was a bit unrealistic but it was a nice, quick read with likable characters.
