An expected and completely deserved addition to the Little People, Big Dreams series - this is a good way to introduce/explain the significance of Michelle Obama to children and how inspiring she is. I didn’t love the illustrations as much for this addition to the series but I think children will enjoy it.

Thank you to the publisher Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books and NetGalley for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions are exclusively my own.

My Thoughts

I have always been intrigued to read Quarto's Little People, BIG DREAMS! series and was super excited to be sent an eARC of the Michelle Obama book. The book was informative in a child friendly way and I loved how the book ended with a slightly more detailed summary of the book with dates and a few photographs. Michelle's drive and passion was made evident by the author and was inspirational for young readers. I will definitely be exploring the Little People, BIG DREAMS! series and buying them as gifts for all the children in my life.

Michelle Obama is the latest addition to the Little People: Big Dreams series. This is a series of mini-biographies that tell the life stories of iconic, worldly figures to inspire the young minds of today.

This book is decorated with beautiful illustrations which have a fabulous likeness to the persons they are representing. They are colourful and engaging, showing the great relationships Michelle has with her loved ones and others. Each page holds around an average of 4 lines of text, making it a read a child will be able to enjoy in one sitting either reading independently or with others. It text is child-appropriate and will be easily understood by young readers.

Michelle came from a home filled with love and parents who encouraged her to "Study hard and be great!" Michelle certainly has done just that. She was told she wasn't likely to succeed in her goal to attend Princeton College, but she wouldn't let the opinions of others discourage her, and proved them wrong by not only attending Princeton but Harvard too, which is a great message to share with children. This book gives great examples of Michelle's determination in life to succeed, and highlights her desire to help those less fortunate. As the book progresses, we are introduced to Barrack Obama and the journey they have embarked on together. It celebrates Obamas Presidency and the important mark it has made in history, with them becoming the first African American President and First Lady of the United States and to live in the White House, alongside the great things she has accomplished for others, which still benefit them today.

Michelle was clearly a woman born to be great and accomplish great things. She has definitely lived up to that! She is a great choice as an icon to inspire young readers and I think her story will provide them with resilience, determination and encourage them to work hard and follow their dreams and ambitions.

**I received an advanced copy of this ebook to read and review. Thank you NetGalley, the author and publisher for allowing me this opportunity.**

This gorgeous series is not only very informative for children, but also a perfect introduction to reading biographies. In my class (7 - 9 year olds) this set has proved very popular with the children, they love the style of writing, illustrations and real photos with extra details at the back. I’ve read ‘Becoming’ and this is a very good summarised version to appeal to young readers.

A great addition to the 'Little people, big dreams' collection. I think these books are great for younger children and a good starting point in the classroom, with bright, colourful illustrations, simple language, but also additional facts and timelines at the back.
An inspiring book for kids.

A great addition to The Little People Big Dreams books!
This time about Michelle Obama, who other than being married to the president, I didn't know an awful lot about.
These books have just the right amount of information about a person to still keep it interesting for younger readers.
Great book!

I absolutely adore the Little People, Big Dreams series and this book, focusing on Michelle Obama did not disappoint. Filled with glorious illustrations, these texts are a fabulous springboard for classroom discussion. I love how they cover such a broad range of famous faces, from scientists to musicians.

The story of Michelle Obama is an inspiring read of a girl who worked hard to achieve success and who worked equally hard to give back to those less fortunate. It details her life from childhood to the First Lady of the USA and shows her as an inspiration woman in her own right, not just the wife of a president. Like Michelle herself, the illustrations were vibrant and full of life, adding much to the story.

I will be using this book as part of my Person of the Week work in a Year 5 classroom and think it would be a welcome addition to any school bookshelf. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

Love this series of books and the diversity they offer, the illustrations are a great addition. The format and dialogue given is just right, not too overwhelming for the younger readers. A great addition to any young family’s library collection.

A short and easy-to-understand illustrated biography of Michelle Obama.
After reading her autobiography, nothing in the book was a surprise to me.
It focused on Michelle being her own person, rather than Mrs. Obama.
However it did feel a bit all-over-the-place, and could have been tighter connected in places.
A beautiful book, but just felt a little bit lacking compared to others I've read.

The little people big dreams series is known for short, easily understandable biographies of famous people, but often, those people are long dead. I don't know if this is a recent developement or if I just happened to stumble on them, but the last installments I had were about celebrities that are still alive, and while I loved other books thematically more, I think it's great to show children that those people are still around. Fulfilling your dreams is still possible.

This one is all about Michelle Obama. Since I read her autobiography, this picture book could not tell me anything new, but I liked it. The illustrator clearly made a point of depicting diversity, and while this was achieved in regards to ethnicity, all seemed to be able bodied and it is not a great feeling when you see an effort has been made but you're still left out.
But then that won't bother most readers, I guess.

The arc was provided by the publisher.

Fabulous edition to the little people big dreams collection!

As like the other books, this one is bright and colourful with detailed illustrations.

Michelle’s story is equally just as important, showing our children she believed she could so she did.

A very powerful message to our children

Wow, what a woman!
Think it is so important to share these stories with my children, and was especially keen to show my daughter that Michelle is more than just someone’s wife.

Really love this series of books and the diversity they offer, the illustrations are fun and engaging and the information given in the text is just right, not too overwhelming for the younger readers.

Would definitely recommend these be added to your family bookshelves!
