Hide is a thriller about a bird watching group meeting up on Boxing Day to watch birds on a nature reserve . We follow all seven characters from their POV’s . The explore the nature reserve , settle to watch the birds in different hides and then one of them is murdered !

We then follow the characters as the splits into two groups and try to escape the murder.

Is it a bit daft? Yes
Are their plot holes? Yep
Did I read it in one day? Absolutely

I enjoyed it. I suspended belief for a day and just sat back and enjoyed a twisty turny thriller which I think many will really love .

This is the first book i have read by Pattison but I sincerely doubt that it will be the last. Thrilling from start to finish, you are kept guessing throughout as to who is responsible for Alec's death and what their motivation is.

Told in turns by all of the characters and yet still leaves the reader unclear as to who or what is at the root of this whodunnit. Characters are realistically portrayed with each having a possible motive to confound both the other characters and the reader. A plot that keeps revealing one more step right to the very last pages.

When a group of friends meet for a winter’s hike full of bird watching and fresh air, they are faced with a murder of a friend and the awful knowledge that one of their own might be the killer.
This page turner had me guessing until the very end and even when I finished - I wanted to know more! The bonds of family and friendship are put through the test in this mystery

And she does it again! 😍, The ‘Silent’ series is one of my favourites, so as soon as I saw that this standalone was available to request, I quickly trotted off to @netgalley

I love the authors writing style and how she built up the characters, so you fully understood them and their personalities. It was interesting to see how they came together as a group and their roles within it.

This was a atmospheric and eerie read, I really felt like I was in the woods with them, there were plenty of twists and I was changing my mind constantly on what the outcome would be!

A must read for any thriller fan! Thank you to @netgalley and @avonbooksuk for the advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.

For some reason this one kept getting put at the bottom of my "to be read" pile. I was wrong!!! I loved it when I eventually got around to reading it.
Great plot and I was kept guessing.

I have been a fan of Nell Pattison's books for a while and I was so glad that I got a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

We meet seven friends

"Emily, the sister who never lets her hearing loss hold her back.
Lauren, the sister who always feels a step behind.
Morna, who doesn’t get on with Lauren.
Ben, whose feelings for Emily border on obsession.
Dan, the quiet newcomer to the group.
Kai, who isn’t just on the hike to enjoy the wildlife.
And Alec, the one who knows all their secrets."

Each individual meet up on Boxing Day at a nature reserve to do some bird watching - they have the whole reserve to themselves as Lauren and Morna both work at the reserve.

The setting is cold and snowy and can really transport the reader to the atmosphere. Nell Pattison writes from each characters point of view so you get to hear from each character. I personally found each character very intriguing but I did find myself forgetting who was who!!!

Anyway the groups splits up and there is loud gunshot and one of the group is found dead....but who did it!!!

The premise of this book is great - I found I did skim read some bits but I ultimately did enjoy this book. Some parts were extremely far fetched - but lets face it, its not real life. Nell Pattison really sets the theme of this book, its a cold and thrilling read that will stay with you for a good time afterwards.

Thanks to NetGalley, Nell Pattison and the publisher for allowing me a copy of this book in exchange for my review.

Absolutely Brilliant

An unpredictable thriller that reveals twists for each and every character!

A huge thank you to Avon Books UK & NetGalley for giving me accessing to this novel. 'Hide' is due to be released on the 9th of December 2021. Nell Pattison has included her passion for deaf education in a smart thriller that involves seven friends and one killer. As a major fan of surprises and new revelations in novels, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Hide! The ending is going to be a main discussion point for readers everywhere

This is an intriguing thriller told from multiple perspectives, and unfortunately the male characters in particular sort of blend into one so I had to check back to the chapter title to keep track. After one group member is murdered in the middle of a nature reserve, at night, in winter the rest go on to make some unfathomable decisions and come across as generally awful people, although the 'bombshell' revelations the murdered Alec could have revealed don't come as a huge shock, or motive for murder. This is a great idea but I just didn't take to the characters and couldn't connect with the story to really care less who made it out in the end.

A birdwatchers group decides to visit the nature reserve on boxer’s day to watch the murmuration of starlings. The group of seven set out with secrets of their own which ends up in the death of two members of the group. The book is all about exploring the dynamic of the relationships between the group members and the secrets they hold.
The book started well with a plot that had a lot of potential to keep the reader on edge with suspense. But the book was too slow paced for a thriller. The detail about why each person suspects one another which became repetitive. The book left me with a lot of unanswered questions about the contradictory statements. The backstory of the characters lacked depth. All the characters are unlikeable and shallow. The book is very atmospheric and the author’s description of the scene and the nature reserve are vivid. Overall, it was an ok read for me. I expected more suspense and twists from the book given that it is a thriller set in an eerie atmosphere with a book cover that showed a lot of promise.
Thank you @netgalley and @AvonBooksUK for the arc in exchange for an honest review and rating.

A group of bird watchers head out together to watch a starling murmuration, only for one of them to be murdered. But who did it, and why?

I really enjoyed Nell Pattison's other books so I was quite excited to get the opportunity to read this one, and I was so disappointed with it. For me, the trouble was that there were just too many characters and I kept getting them mixed up (all these men with three letter names - Dan, Ben, Kai - they just all blended into one), The series of coincidences and interconnections that led to them all having good reasons for being a murderer was of course necessary to the whodunnit plot but at the same time felt contrived and unlikely. Most of the story was just people running around a snowy nature reserve in a bit of a panic.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Excellent read. The tension ratcheted up to the very end with a stunning twist at the end. Finished this over a weekend. Highly recommended.

I wanted to like this more but it was a slow start and by the time the action got going and the twists starting to be revealed, sorry to say I’d lost interest.

Reading other reviews, its clear plenty of people loved it. Just not me.

I did enjoy the character of Emily, who was deaf. I’ve not come across a deaf character in a book before, and I thought it was well handled.

2.5 stars

I really ended up liking this book. This first 30% dragged a little, but it soon ramped up. If you like locked room style books, this is for you!

Hide by Nell Pattison is a suspense/thriller novel about a group of friends who head out on a nature reserve on Boxing Day to witness a starling murmuration. During the murmuration, one member of the group is mysteriously murdered. The remaining members must work together to escape and call for help, all while suspecting each other as the murderer.

Thank you Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review this novel.
My opinions on the novel are as follows:

The good:
- The author did a fantastic job really fleshing out each character; the reader really got to know a lot about each character and their intentions and motivations. Each important detail was cleverly and gradually revealed throughout the novel.
- The author was able to build up a decent amount of tension and suspense throughout the novel, leading up to the climax.

The bad:
- While the author fleshed out each character, the first-person narration of each character was often confusing and felt a little "dear diary" juvenile for an adult thriller novel. While each character is quite different, the author voices them in such a similar way you had to refer back to the chapter title to remember which character you were reading about. I almost did not finish this novel because of the narration style.
- The novel's pace felt very slow at the beginning, but I appreciate the character-building the author has done.
- While I enjoyed the novel's twist, I did not enjoy the final chapter, nor felt it was necessary.

Hide may be a good novel for readers of thriller and suspense novels; however, the narration style was not for me, even if I did enjoy the character building.

You'll definitely be left with your jaw on the floor and your head spinning. This book was just so beautifully written and atmospheric. I love that it's written from the various characters perspective and that not too much is given away too soon. You may think you know that you know... but you don't know! Not u time you finally race to the end of this amazing book

Seven friends, one killer......
It’s definitely a fun thriller and you are constantly trying to figure out who the “bad guy” is. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending and was kind of left going “whaaaaat? loved it!

Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books UK for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Hide is written in the POV of various characters, all who have troubling secrets. When seven acquaintances attempt to bond over a hiking trip in the winter, things go wrong. One of the members from the group is murdered and questions are raised about who the murderer could be... Is it one of their own? Could it be the poachers who've come to invade the reserve they're hiking on? While everyone is watching their own back and making conclusions of their own things spiral out of their control. The synopsis is interesting but the story itself is a slow burn thriller with a lot of repetition. The ending was shocking to say the least but I didn't experience any closure and it raised a lot of questions and details in the book that didn't add up for me, but maybe this book will be part of a series. Hide is my first read by Nell Pattison and I plan on reading more by this author since I did enjoy the writing style.
