An absolutely fantastic read.
The chapters start with a break up and Emma entering freefall but the chapters are headed with "no of weeks before" so you get the hint straight away that something big is coming.
Wow its unexpected.
The chapters then post event are heart warming, fascinating, shocking, awkward, lovely. I think I felt every emotion possible going through this read.
Simply gorgeous.

Thank you #Netgalley for the advanced copy!

I really enjoyed this book. Part 1 follows Emma, she is contemplating leaving her husband and taking her son Freddie. The night she plans to have the conversation and make the move, her husband, Paul, surprisingly come in to say he is leaving. Emma got what she wanted and she could stay in the house! Emma has a group of girlfriends who are her ride or dies, they jump in as needed and provide her fun girls nights. On one of these fun nights, Emma meets Finn.

Emma and Finn spend many lustful nights together mixed with lots of alcohol. One night it caught up with them and after a long night of drinking they did something they both would regret, leading us into part II. Part II follows Emma's recovery and many other surprises. This section of the book went by so quickly as you want to see the progression and what would happen next for Emma.

Thank you to Netgalley and Aria and Aries for the opportunity to review this book.

If you loved Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine, you might like this book.

My favourite characters are Freddy, Jack, Emma’s Dad, and all of Emma’s friends.

The protagonist Emma finds it difficult to catch a break and is struggling to come to terms that her life is falling apart one event after another.
As a reader, it is important that you connect with the character and understand their perspective. I felt pity for Emma but I found myself equally frustrated with her perception of life.

But Emma is one lucky human because no matter what happened in her life, she had a strong army of friends and parents who stood strongly by her side through thick and thin. As a reader, I was jealous of the friendships Emma had even though she is what one might call ‘high-maintenance’ or ‘the one who always gets into trouble’. Emma did not deserve these lovely humans by her side as she was so engrossed in self-pity, she failed to realised her real strengths.

I also want to address that there is subtle emotional and verbal abuse in this book which is not highlighted on every page but it might be triggering to some if they have a similar lived experience.

If you are looking for a casual easy read, this is your book.

Before the accident, Emma had lost whom she was due to the verbal berating from Paul; however, she further spiralled into uncontrollable behavior with Finn that was not healthy for either party. It was only after the accident that left Emma both intellectually and emotionally became whom she was meant to be. She became softer, a deeper relationship with Freddie, her Mum and Dad and all the great friends who supported her every step.of the way. By loving herself, she found true love again.

I received an advance copy of, A Way Back to Happy, by Olivia Spooner. This is a good book, but a very heavy book. I did not like the language in this book at all, but I liked Emma and Freddie.

Although the subject matter is rather serious, this book was a pretty easy read because it is so well written. The pacing is great and I was so invested in what was going on with Emma that I had trouble putting the book down. One thing this book does so well is take you on the recovery journey that Emma goes through after the accident. I also really liked Emma's group of friends - it's always good to see female characters that support one another rather than trying to put one another down. Their trip to Bali was probably one of my favorite chapters in the book - I would happily read a book centered on any one of these women.

I will say that I was frustrated with the amount of drinking Emma was doing and wanted to smack her over the head a few times. I know that drinking was how she was coping with everything that was happening (even if she didn't realize it), but when she later commented that she wished she could drink I was a little disappointed in her. I wish there had been at least part of a chapter that included one of Emma's therapy sessions - it's mentioned that she is in therapy, but no other information is provided. Given how much of the book talks about her physical/occupational therapy it would have been good to include more about her mental health too.

Of course, as with so many of these types of books, you always wonder how much could have been avoided had Emma just let Finn finish a sentence when he is trying to come clean with her - this happens at least twice. The importance of communication once again comes into play here. The parts with Paul regarding custody were pretty predictable - I kind of couldn't believe anyone was surprised by them.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The author does a great job of balancing the drama, romance, and humor of the story. I would have really liked even a short epilogue to see how everyone was doing a little ways down the road. I give it a solid 3.5 stars.

I read this book in less than four hours. All I can say is that it was amazing. Only bad thing I can say is that I wish there was an epilogue or more to the ending because I couldn’t get enough.

This story also had me tear up at times because my cousin was involved in an accident that resulted in a brain injury that was very similar to Emma’s injury. I felt that her struggles , especially in the beginning was very real and emotional. Not sure if this book will end up as a series, but I wish it would! I would love to read about the rest of the friend group and their relationships.
