The Perfect Escape is a physiological thriller set around three friends and explores how much you can really know about a person.

At the start of the novel, three friends set off for a relaxing weekend away. All three friends are recently either broken up or breaking up with their significant others, theirs is a friendship built on heartbreak. After an unlucky start to the trip, losing the rental car keys, the girls settle in to a rented house for the night, and venture out to a local bar. From there, the trip goes from unlucky to the worst imaginable.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast paced thriller . This book started at a million miles an hour and did not relent. I couldn't put it down.

I must say that I felt like giving up on this novel until the point where they keys to the rental car were lost. It improved somewhat after that and I managed to hang on grimly to the end. The three main characters in the book all seem to lie to each other, so it's hard to get a handle on where the plot is headed. The only thing that lifted it from a two star rating to a three was the little twist right at the very end. The novel may have more appeal for female readers than it did for me.

Three friends, Sam, Margaret and Diana all plan to escape the city and their husband/ex-husband issues. However, no sooner than the road trip begins than the rental car keys mysteriously vanish and the women are stuck in a small town halfway to their destination; as more coincides occur is this a random series of events or is a more sinister plan at work.

This was a very enjoyable mystery thriller; the tension of being stuck in a remote area with more bizarre coincides occurring really built the tension and I enjoyed the story as the truth was revealed.

It was an ok read, fairly steady book but didnt blow me away, none of the twists left me particularly surprised.

A girls weekend for three recently single women turns sour when car problems mean they end up staying in the town that one of their exes is from. Soon enough someone disappears and a body is then found.

A good read, a little slow in parts but good.

Three women - Sam, Margaret and Diana - head up State for a short break but the rental car key gets lost and they find themselves holed up in an unexpected location for the evening.

What happens at the bar and in the woods out back, changes everything and we gradually learn more about the back stories of all three women as police investigate murder.

Some good twists and a story that kept me interested and didn’t end as I had expected.

I hadn’t read one of Leah Konen’s books before and I found this one generally enjoyable, if not unputdownable.

The plot description really intrigued me and it begins with three friends going on a road trip to escape their respective relationship issues. Their plans quickly turn sour when they have car problems and are forced to stay in a different town than planned. After a drunken night out, Diana mysteriously disappears and the two friends frantic search for her begins to uncover multiple secrets and lies.

The story is told in different chapters mainly from the point of view of both Margaret and Sam. Most of the time, this worked, although there were occasions, I had to check back to see who was “speaking”, as it was sometimes difficult to tell. I didn’t find any of the characters particularly likeable, but perhaps that was the point.

I think for me the story started off really well and did hook me. Being busy, I put the book down for a few days and although I did pick it up again, I wasn’t in a huge hurry to do so, which is usually a big indication of how much a book grabs me.

There were certainly a few surprising twists and turns along the way, which did keep me reading.

While this wasn’t a stand out read for me, I would look out for the author’s next book.

Sam, Diana and Margaret are going away for a weekend to get over relationship problems. After stopping for gas they have car problems and have to stay in the same town where Sam’s ex Harry lives. Many twists and turns in this story. A little slow to start with but stick with it - the ending is worth it!

This is 4.5 stars!!! Highly addictive and definitely a page turner. Sam’s marriage is over and her girlfriend’s take her on a break, where is Diana? Who’s lying? Can you trust anyone?

The twists and turns might leave you dizzy even if some parts are a bit over the top, this novel is highly addictive and sucks you in from the first pages. Expect late night reading as this book is hard to close.

This is a perfect thriller read to curl up in a comfy chair with, I wasn’t sure what I was in the mood to read and this book came up next on my kindle so I started the beginning and was hooked straight in.

As three women decide to head out of the city for a trip to the Adirondacks. Sam, Margaret and Diane, each are nursing some heart ache so a getaway is the best thing for them all, or is it. Sam has been married to Harry for a year when he just ups and leaves her saying his first wife Elizabeth needs him. Margaret has run up lots of credit card debt as she tries to deal with the loss of a baby her husband Lars has his own way of dealing with it, alcohol. Diana is finally divorced after a rough marriage to Brandon.

As they reach the Catskills they stop for a break, but when they get back to the car they can’t find the key, nowhere in town can help them get the car going again. So they end up staying in a cabin in the woods a rental property Diane sorts for the night with the intention of getting the car from the garage the following morning and then heading off to there original destination.

The ladies decide to go out for a drink to celebrate a night of freedom, Sam decides to take an Instagram photo knowing her ex lives nearby and she hopes he sees the picture. It’s not long before she spots him at the bar, they go outside to the woods where they engage in a quicky, Sam regrets her actions as soon as it’s over and goes in the bar and breaks down to Diane who. Says she will go and check that Harry has gone, Sam continues drinking, Margaret hooks up with a stranger and together they manage to get Sam back to the cabin it’s only the next morning that they realise Diane never came home, where is Diane? They go out looking for her in the places they were the night before but to no avail. They go to the police who aren’t really interested until Sam goes back to where she was last with Harry to look for her wedding rings that had fallen out of her pocket but she doesn’t find the rings but does find blood.

This is a brilliantly twisty thriller with some good twists and turns you don’t see coming. I would definitely recommend this, the characters are believable. It’s told through the points of view of Margaret and Sam. I high;y entertaining, engrossing read.

Three women (early to mid-thirties) decide to get away from it all (it being their disastrous love lives) and head away for a girly weekend. Of course, nothing goes according to plan and they find themselves mysteriously stranded in the middle of nowhere.

What follows is a mystery – with a missing woman, a dead body and a myriad of twists and turns.

To be honest, I’m finding this quite a difficult book to review. In parts, I found it riveting and really difficult to put down (sadly, life is always unbelievably hectic at this time of year and I have to abandon my reading to deal with kids). Then, at other times, the story dragged, the soliloquy’s from two of the characters felt hammy and just over the top, and I lost interest.

I think, for me, the problem was I imagined which way the story was going, and ultimately was wrong. That’s fine, I don’t always get it right, I can totally live with that – but honestly, my plot line was better (well, in my opinion). Everything felt a bit disappointing after that.

Now, there are a couple of twists, but nothing mind-blowing. Largely, it’s a bit unbelievable, which is fine, this is fiction, but I find it hard to really get in to a book when I keep thinking “No one would do that!”.

A quick, easy read if you’re looking for something that’s not going to take much thought to get through.

OMG what a fabulous read .This book has everything you would want in a thriller ,secrets ,murder and lies ,a brilliant very clever plot that kept me guessing and so many twists and turns it almost made me dizzy. This is definitely one book that is very hard to put down and the ending had the biggest twist of all . I was almost sad when I finished this book as I had enjoyed it so much .Many thanks to the Publisher ,the Author and NetGalley for my free copy in return for an honest review .

Three friends who are all recently separated from their husbands have a weekend away which goes wrong half way through the journey there when the key to the car is somehow lost whilst refuelling? It takes one of the women a short while to realise this is the area her ex lives in now even though she’s visited it before, there were quite a few unlikely things and it was a bit of a slow starter too. I had high expectations for this however as I intuited some of the direction this was heading in it cost me some of the enjoyment, there were some surprises but it sadly failed to grip me. It wasn’t a bad read but I would have liked more pace, a bit more realism and for me less predictability.

I thought this book started off quite slow but I stuck with it and it soon picked up the pace. Some twists and turns that kept me reading as I wanted to find out who the culprit was. The characters were not very likeable which for me makes it a bit harder to read. I didn’t expect the ending though which was good. . Overall not one of my top books but definitely worth a read.

This will be the must-read book of 2022. I devoured it, couldn't put it down, couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Three friends, Sam, Diana and Margaret go on a girl's weekend to escape the monotony of their private lives, they don't make it to their final destination after having car trouble and that's where the story really ramps up. It's a book filled with secrets, lies, murder, misdirection and twists to die for. I loved everything about it, I got lost in the pages and it's completely gripping. Trust me when I say this I LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT!. This is by far Leah's best book to date. It's very cleverly written, with amazing, relatable characters and a plot that's so twisted it makes your head spin. EVERYBODY NEEDS TO READ THIS PHENOMENAL BOOK. Highly recommend.
