We already study the Titanic in Year 6 so I am often looking out for new books on the subject. This book, about the rescue, is brilliant. It is beautifully designed and brilliantly illustrated, as well as being really interesting. The style reminds me very much of Shackleton’s Journey and The Wolves of Currumpaw by William Grill and Fourteen Wolves by Catherine Barr, all of which are books that the children at school and I love. This is a great book, whether you are specifically interested in the Carpathia and the rescue of 705 Titanic passengers or you just fancy picking up something a little bit different.

'Rescuing Titanic: A true story of quiet bravery in the North Atlantic' with story and art by Fora Delargy is a nonfiction picture book about a ship that rescued passengers from the Titanic.

The Carpathia was an oceangoing liner travelling from New York. Along with things like Morse Code and roles on the ship, the reader will see where the different classes of passengers dined, and how navigation was done at the time. When the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg and started sinking, the quick response by the crew of the Carpathia saved 705 lives.

Along with lots of really interesting facts, there are lovely illustrations that (to me) were reminiscent of the work of Virginia Lee Burton. I really enjoyed the story and I loved the artwork.

Such a cool book for kids. Great illustrations and kids can learn so much about the Titanic by reading this book. This book would be great for anyone who likes history or wants to learn more about the Titanic. Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was absolutely adorable. I loved the excuse to read a bunch of little kiddo arcs while pregnant and I will enjoy picking them up in stores.

Like other reviewers, I thought this bookbwas specifically about the Titanic. However, I was pleasantly surprised that it is about the Carpathia. Carpathia was the ship that was rescued as many Titanic survivors as possible. I, sadly, didn't know the name or details about the carpathia's heroic efforts to get to the Titanic in time. They forged through iceberg-ridden water and could have struck one themselves. They also protected and supported the survivors after the tragedy. I loved reading the carpathia's story, and believe it will interest others as well.

Some younger readers may find the title a little misleading because this is a book about the Carpathia, the ship that rescued many of the passengers from the Titanic. However, once readers get into the story, they will find it compelling and relevant to the history of the Titanic. The full-page illustrations, done in watercolor and ink using bright colors, helpfully extend the text. The style of the art is suitably retro, resembling the work of Miroslav Sasek, author of the This Is travel series first published in 1960. The text is set onto the artwork, with a paragraph or two per page, and a clock on many of the spreads indicates the time the Titanic struck the iceberg and the time it took for the Carpathia to get to the sinking ship. Although the book design and illustrations are first rate, the choice of a small font for the text may inhibit some younger readers.

Everyone knows about Titanic, the mighty ship of disaster. Far fewer, though, could name the ships that came to her rescue, although they're just as deserving of rememberance. Although three ships took part or tried to take part in the rescue, this book focuses on the most famous, Carpathia.

Featuring cutaways showing the ship's interior, descriptions of Morse Code, reproductions of the frantic messages and far more, this is a treasure trove of information, all carefully packaged for young children. Although the story is, of course, distressing, it's written at a level that young children can cope with.

This is a great read for anyone studying or interested in Titanic or life on board ships at the time. I can't wait to read more in this series and see what other parts of history they're going to illuminate.

The story of the sinking of the Titanic has been told over and over again. But what of the ship that rescued the survivors? It is time for the Carpathia and her Captain and crew to get the spotlight. Learn about the rescuing ship, where they were headed, how they heard about the Titanic’s sinking, and their efforts to rescue the survivors.

This was a fascinating look at some currently rather unsung heroes who have been fading into the recesses of history books. It is inspiring that the Carpathia Captain and crew did what they could, put all their effort into it, and risked their own safety to save those they could. This is just the right amount of information for the higher end of lower grade readers and middle grade readers. It is engrossing, has a good balance of text and illustrations, tells the most important bits, but is not overwhelming in length. Highly recommended.

Notes on content [based on the ARC]: No language issues or sexual content. A few minor injuries of survivors are mentioned, and the grief of survivors is mentioned, but there is not a lot of page time devoted to the deaths as the focus is more on those who lived. It is respectful and sobering towards the loss of life while not dwelling on the morbid.

I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I got this book because I'm kind of a Titanic enthusiast. I've read nearly every book, movie and article on this ship. The Titanic holds my attention more than anything else. I think its because it should never have happened. But it did with the loss of so many lives. And because it was labelled as unsinkable others ignored their may day. Except the Carpathia.

This is a debut novel or should I say graphic novel by Delargy whose grandfather and great grandfather worked the ship yards that built the Titanic.

The event is stunningly illustrated. The Carpathia saved over 705 people on that tragic night. Delargy brings that tragedy to life but not in a morbid way. She brings clarity to a time that death appeared to be the only option. They rescued those in the lifeboats. It breaks my heart when I think about all those who perished.

This book is beautiful. Absolutely stunning. Despite that tragedy over 100 years ago.

Enjoy!

I was eager to read this story of the boat that rescued many survivors and didn’t know much about that boat. But my focus kept being split and distracted in different directions with asides and book information. The two need to be more interwoven.

Beautiful and detailed illustrations, maps and interesting historical facts bring the tale of the brave Carpathia to life. The minute-to-minute details and easy reading make this inspirational tale a must for anyone interested in the tragic tale of the Titanic. This is inspirational, however, as there is a happy ending to this story, at least. It will certainly make any reader want to learn more about the Carpathia.

I received this free ebook from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

This was so interesting yet simple to read. The art is gorgeous and tells the story alongside the small amounts of text. The story of the titanic is legendary yet I didn’t know about the Carpathia’s role in the story until now.

I thought this was an interesting take on the well told titanic story. The illustrations were beautiful and the book was full of information. I thought it was like a hybrid between a picture book and a graphic novel. I'll be getting this one for my library.

I read this ARC via NetGalley, with my 11 year old. This is our review.

This book tells the story of the Titanic tragic fate, from the Carpathia's point of view, which is very original.
The text is engaging, beautifully laid-out around its many illustrations and managed to keep us in suspense despite knowing what would eventually happen!
The illustrations are stunning; many of which would do wonderful on a poster.

A beautiful debut for a writer/artist. We will definitely follow her work.

This is a really nice short graphic novel telling a lot about the rescue of the Titanic, by the ship Carpathia. It's beautifully, meaningfully illustrated.....the colors seem to illuminate a night time event... The drawings are easy to understand....really a nice book. It's geared toward younger people, but adults will enjoy this too. A lot is explained in an easy manner.....navigation, morse code, crew members & responsibilities. I'd recommend it to anyone, young or older! It's a good quick read!
I received a complimentary e-copy of this book for review purposes from the Quarto Publishing Group-Wide Eyed Editions via NetGalley. The opinions are my own.

Books on the Titanic are always in demand, so it's exciting when a new one comes along.

This book is a large format, highly illustrated, and it's not just about the Titanic. As the title suggests it's about the attempted rescue of the Titanic, by the ship the Carpathian.

For the visual reader this book is amazing. I love that at the very start of the book there's an illustration showing the key crew and passengers aboard the Carpathian, they were real people and this simple image reminds readers if that. There's information about the ship, the crew, a map of the route, how they navigate, and a great cross section of the ship showing what life is like aboard the Carpathian. The illustrations are the main feature of this book, and the minimal text gives us the details.

There's a very subtle element to the illustrations starting when Night Falls on the Carpathian...and that's a clock. From 11pm there's a clock that appears on each page. This clock shows the time from when the Titanic hits the iceberg 11.40pm to the time it sunk completely at 2.20am. This gives a great perspective to how quickly everything happened on this night.

I loved Rescuing Titanic! Rescuing Titanic tells the story of Carpathia’s role in Titanic’s story. I love anything that has to do with the Titanic and when I came across Rescuing Titanic, I couldn’t wait to read it! I liked how it focused on what Carpathia did for Titanic, because a lot of times that gets glossed over in the Titanic story. In the book, it went in depth on how Carpathia raced out of their way to get to Titanic and how they prepared for the survivors. I think other Titanic buffs-young and old-will love this book. I highly recommend this book! Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book! (This review is also on GoodReads.)
