her mother bev hires kate and tristan to find out what happened to jo, its a cold case with the police and through them bev was given the case files for jo which she hands over to kate and tristan who have had some success with another cold case from their fledging PI agency work

the case will bring them into the seedy side of life but as they get closer to finding out what happened to jo their case suddenly becomes an active case with the police as the bodies of several men are identified and a serial killer is sought as their case is linked to the murders

a tense drama which plays out really well,...

Number three in the Kate Marshall series and for me the best yet. Kate & Tristan have their first big case for their new detective agency and it’s a cold one, to solve the mystery of a woman who disappeared some 20 odd years ago. As they delve into the clues they soon uncover a tangled web of historical disappearances and murders which results in a brilliant climax. I admit I did have my suspicions early on of who the villain might be only to dismiss them. The subplot and characters continue to develop nicely too. A great read as always from this very talented writer

Kate Marshall #3

Kate Marshall's fledging agency takes off when she and her partner, Tristian Harper, are hired for their first big case. It's a cold one. Twelve years before, journalist Johanna Duncan disappeared after exposing a political scandal. Most people have moved on. Joanna's mother refuses to let go. When Kate and Tristian gain access to the original case files, they revisit the same suspects and follow the same leads - but not the same dead ends. Among Joanna's personal effects, Kate discovers the names of two young men who vanished without trace.

I'm a big fan of Robert Bryndza and I'm loving this new series. I like the main characters, Kate and Tristian, they work well together. They are investigating a cold case, the disappearance of journalist Joanna Duncan, who had not returned home after work one night. There's plenty of twists to keep you guessing and the plotline is believable. I was pulled into the story from the first page. A thoroughly enjoyable and gripping read that held my attention throughout

This is book three in the series and, usual series rules apply! You know them by now, I don't need to spell them out.
In this book we see Kate struggling to balance her fledgling PI business with running the caravan park she has inherited. Tristan is helping her but he still has his "day job" a few days a week, so they are only just about managing to make ends meet. But her son Jake is due home for the summer so hopefully he can help. And then they get a big case. That of missing journalist Joanna Duncan who disappeared over a decade ago, the police having long since given up trying to solve and have practically closed the case, all bar lip service. It's her mother who has never accepted the loss of her daughter and she is still, after all these years, suffering from the tragedy.
So they start to re-interview all the witnesses. Those still around at any case, and it doesn't take Kate long to make a breakthrough...
And that's all I'm saying. You'll have to discover the rest yourself - obviously! But I will say that this book is right up to the author's usual, very high, standards. Cracking, well described, characters all playing their parts with aplomb in a fantastically well plotted, and executed, narrative which hit the ground running for me and didn't let up until the very last page. With his no nonsense style of writing, the story gets on with itself very well indeed as it twists and turns to a wholly satisfying conclusion.
What I like best about this series, and all the author books to be honest, are the characters. They feel so real. Here, Kate and Tristan are just two normal people trying to get on with their lives and run a business. They have the same struggles as you and I along the way. OK so Kate was married to a serial killer, and that's not a normal, but that seems to be a minor thread in the series and just points to her background rather than intruding on what is really going on in the present.
All in all, a cracking read that I have no hesitation in recommending to fans of the genre. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

I cannot love the Kate Marshall books anymore than I do. They are so cleverly written and well put together. I love the individual stories and murder investigations but also the intertwined background stories with Kate and her partner and son. Brilliant!

Another super offering from Robert Bryndza who rarely fails to produce a great read. Once again Kate is female lead and although I never wanted her to, leave the police have to admit she makes a formidable PI. I’m often one to criticise books with too many characters but Bryndza introduces and re-introduces lots but somehow manages to make them all distinct and memorable so easy to know who is who.
I love Tristran too and I’m sure Jake the girl he had got in touch with ( sorry I’ve forgotten her name) will appear in a future plot.

Kate Marshall and her assistant Tristan return in Darkness Falls which is the latest book by Robert Bryndza and it is an entertaining crime novel that you will enjoy.

Hired to look into the historic disappearance of a journalist Kate and Tristan uncover more than they expect as other people seem to have disappeared as well.

The book has a number of twists and turns and whilst I partially worked out the culprit this did not detract from my overall enjoyment of the book

I really didn't think that Mr Bryndza could better the first and second instalments in this excellent series but he has and yet again, I was totally engrossed from the first to the last word. You don't have to have read either of the first two books but I would highly recommend you do.

The characters are strong and I am really getting attached to Kate and Tristan; they are a brilliant duo and work really well together. The pace was spot on, the plot gripping and the tension spine-tinglingly good. The chapters which are written from the point of view of the killer are goosebump-inducing; he is so cold it really gave me the creeps - it was perfect! There is a great twist and the ending was so good I read way too late into the night and then was really disappointed that I had finished ... I didn't want it to end!
This series just keeps getting better and better and I can't wait for the next one. In the "Author's Letter" at the end, Mr Bryndza says that "Kate and Tristan will return shortly for another gripping murder investigation!" and I for one am waiting with bated breath!

Highly recommended for readers who love dark, exciting, suspense-filled stories that despite making you feel ill at ease at times, you read on into the night.

Many, many thanks to Little, Brown Book Group UK and NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest, unbiased and unedited review.

This is the third book in the Kate Marshall series. Kate and her business partner Tristan are hired as private investigators to find a girl who has been missing for 20 years. The story is very cleverly written, spanning 20 years and with just the right amount of build up to its climax. I would highly recommend this and any of Robert Bryndza’s novels!

Another brilliant instalment of the Kate Marshall series, I read at every given opportunity. I enjoyed the two previous books in the series, so had to read this one as soon as I saw it. It was fantastic, a great storyline, which had me guessing right till the end. Highly recommended.

I never repeat the blurb. An enjoyable third excursion in this series with Kate and Tristan working hard to solve a cold case. I'd guessed the ending in advance hence 4*.

Thank you Little Brown Book Group and Netgalley for this long awaited read.
Wow. Wow and wow again! I really didn’t see that coming!!
This is the third in the series and what a great book kept me absolutely gripped. I had suspicions but didn’t expected the killer to be …… (no spoilers from me).
Brilliant book, great story, well written as always and brilliant characters.
Five stars 🌟 ⭐️ ✨ 🌟 ⭐️ without a doubt.
Thank you x

Love his books! This, the third in the Kate Marshall series is a more complex, intricate story, following a twelve year old cold case that the police were unable to solve. Kate is no longer with the police but has set up as a private detective with her sidekick Tristan. They provide a good foil for each other and It is cleverly plotted. It kept me absorbed until the end, when there was a twist I really didn’t see coming. The incidental details add to the enjoyment as they are also running a Caravan Park with Kate’s son pitching in during the long vac. Kate is equally prepared to clean toilets! Recommended.
Thanks to Little Brown UK and NetGalley for an Arc, this is an honest opinion.

This is the latest Kate Marshall mystery, and it concerns the cold case of a journalist who disappeared in 2002.

Kate is now the owner of a caravan site, and is struggling to run that alongside the agency, although she does have the help of her son, Jake, home from university.

Kate’s new detective agency is asked by the journalist’s mother and her partner, Bill, to investigate so that the mother can find out what happened to her daughter.
Kate and Tristram are drawn into the world of gay bars, an MP with a secret life, a hippy commune, as well as uncovering more unsolved murders.
The story reaches an exciting climax on the seashore.

I like the way that the main characters are growing across the series, and wait in anticipation for the next episode.

Thanks to Netgalley and Little, Brown Book group UK for the opportunity to read this book.

When I read Nine Elms, the first book in Robert Bryndza’s series featuring Kate Marshall, I wasn’t sure this series would be for me. For all that it was fast-paced and a bit of a page turner, exactly the sort of novel I turned to during the lockdown, it also seemed to contain rather a lot of ‘stranger danger’ type graphic violence. Something obviously drew me in, though, because I’ve since read the second novel in the series and now Darkness Falls, the third.

I think this is a series which is definitely getting stronger with each book. Kate, having started out with the police and then become a university lecturer, is now running her own detective agency with sidekick Tristan, who continues working at the university part-time. The partnership between Kate and Tristan is a strength, with both characters contributing to the breakthroughs in the cases they find themselves handling. There’s a sense that the author is becoming more confident in bringing Tristan forward as a main character, exploring his sexuality more and his life outside of the detective agency.

Darkness Falls finds Kate and Tristan taking on the case of Joanna Duncan, a journalist missing for 13 years. Joanna’s mother wants to find out once and for all what happened to her daughter, years after the case was closed unsolved by the police. What starts out as a gently-paced, rather sad story soon picks up momentum as Kate and Tristan look into the stories Joanna was working on prior to her disappearance, and the story that follows is well-plotted, exciting and full of developments which keep several suspects in the frame until the closing stages.

I think it helps that the second and third books in this series have more of a focus on crimes already committed and on uncovering what has happened, while still maintaining some on-going peril. While Nine Elms just contained a few too many scenes for me of victims being stalked and killed in real time, I think the subsequent books have been strengthened by putting more focus on the detective work and building up an established cast of characters.

Another of my favourite series. I loved his last series which featured Erica Foster and were all five star reads. For me this new series is even better. First there was Nine Elms which blew me away, then came Shadowlands which left me speechless and now his latest Darkness Falls which for me is another of my best reads of the year. I loved everything about this book. Kate Marshall and her partner Tristan are a fledgling Detective agency and have been asked to look into a cold case. A journalist left work and was never seen again. Full of misdirection, sat on the edge of my seat and constantly holding my breath. I had my list of suspects and I still got it wrong. The perpetrator left me feeling cold, I could not put this book down I HAD TO KNOW THE TRUTH and finally turned the last page at 2.am. Yes this book is that good. Brilliant storytelling, packed with tension and suspense and I can't wait to read more of another gripping and addictive series from this very talented author.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.

.The dynamic duo Kate and Tristan are back with another gripping case to solve. I love the relationship between Kate and Tristan, they are the perfect team and if I ever need the help of a private investigator then I would want them on my side. I thoroughly enjoyed getting lost in this PHENOMENAL crime thriller. The plot is consistent and the story runs at a nice pace. All the characters are believable, especially the sleazy politician. I was guessing all the way through who the killer was and OMG my jaw hit the floor when I found out, I certainly wasn't expecting that little shocker. It's a phenomenal read and I bloody well loved getting lost in the pages. Huge Congratulations to an OUTSTANDING, CLEVER author who knows how to shock and keep his readers enthralled until the very last page.

Robert Bryndza has done it again with Darkness Falls third the book in the Kate Marshall series. I have followed his books from this series and the Erica Foster series and either one doesn’t disappoint.
After leaving the Met Kate is now running a Private detective agency with colleague Tristan. They have just got their first major case. The disappearance of Journalist Joanna Duncan in twelve years ago. Who at the time was investigating a political scandal? The police were investigating her disappearance, but the case has now gone cold. But Joanna’s mother Bev always wondered what happened to her little girl.
Kate has a head start in the case as Joanna’s mother Bev was giving the case files. So, she gave them to her to delve into. As she progresses, they find out that two other people have done missing. What did Joanna find out and what links them to her disappearance?
Thank you, Little Brown, for a copy of Darkness Falls by Robert Bryndza. This is another great, thrilling mystery from the author. I always get excited about his books. This has a great storyline of Kate trying to prove herself that she has still got what it takes to solve a crime. Even putting one over the Police to do it. She is not afraid to get stuck in even cleaning toilets at a caravan park. Which I thought was quite funny. But at the same time, the story was gripping throughout. This is a very entertaining read. 5 stars from me.

Darkness Falls is the third book in the Kate Marshall series. In this novel, Kate is investigating the disappearance of journalist Joanna Duncan who went missing over a decade earlier after exposing a political scandal. After gaining access to Joanna’s personal effects, Kate discovers the names of two men who also vanished without trace. As she begins to connect the dots, Kate realises Joanna may have been onto something far more sinister than first believed and the killer could be hiding in plain sight.

Another great novel from this author that drew me in from page one and kept me hooked to the end. Thank you to NetGalley, Little, Brown Book Group and the author for the advanced review copy.

What a cracking read! This is the second one in the series that I have read and I am now hooked. I love Kate and Tristan, they’re two great characters that work well together. I also like that the setup is different to the usual partnerships in that they are now Private Investigators but Tristan is also a researcher and they run a caravan park. This story is seriously addictive, fast paced and really cleverly plotted.
