Mammy Banter, comes a hilarious warts-and-all novel about modern motherhood – and how having it all sometimes isn’t what you think it might be. This book is brilliant, really well written, good story which kept me interested from the beginning.

A debut novel by a Tiktok content producer, this is a lightweight story of chaotic motherhood that many will relate to. An enjoyable book.

I love books like this and this was no expectation. I laughed out loud at some of the antics and the things that Tara’s oldest would come out with and her oldest boy was hilarious. I had a few omg did they just say moments. I hope Serena writes more as I can’t wait to hear what happens next.

Thanks goes to net galley, the publishers and the author for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

If you like laugh out cringe moments this is the book for you.

Follows the same premise as most of these "mammy" books. - Sadly predictable and obvious - didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped.

Thanks for letting me read it though

This book is amazing! It is the funniest book I have ever read, and I really enjoyed it. It brightened up the few days over which I read it, and it made me laugh so much! I highly recommend it, especially if you are in need of a wee pick me up. The story is about a Mum called Tara, who has a husband and 3 children, and the book goes through all of the different things that happen to her at home, and at her work, as well as when she is out with her friends. It is hilarious and clever, and it is one of the best books I have ever read! It is so honest and real, and it really relates to what real life is like. Best banter I have heard in a long time!

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a hilarious debut novel from TikTok sensation Mammy
Banter. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. An honest portrayal of modern motherhood, sexism in the workplace, family and friendships. I got a little bit of a Bridget Jones vibe from this and anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely love Bridget Jones. I don’t have any children, I am not a wife, and I do not have a sexist boss - I have literally nothing in common with the book’s lead and yet I still loved it! I will be recommending this to everyone!

Great book! So funny and well written. As a mother of two young girls I found myself identifying with the characters - I now dread the teenage years!!

Massively recommend this to to anyone

I didn’t make the connection to @mammybanter (love her Instagram & Tic Tok) when I requested this on Netgalley but it sounded similar to Kristen Baileys book series on The Callaghan Sisters which I just adored. I just loved it from the first word. Every woman on the planet can identify with all aspects of this book and a lot more then I’d like to admit 🤦‍♀️😆. I laughed out loud, smirked and cringed with Tara throughout. I loved all the characters, the different voices, the accents, the statements and the no holding back and telling it like it is even though a lot of the time we are thinking we can’t say that. Really glad I got it in audio format as Serena narrates it herself and it just really added to it hearing the accents and she just has such a way with words 😉. Would totally recommend this one if your in need of a laugh and some reassurance you are doing a good job as a Mammy and that it doesn’t just happen in your house ❤️. Can’t wait for the next instalment…

Thanks to Netgalley, Mammy Banter & Harper Collins UK for the opportunity to listen to and review this ARC thats out tomorrow 3rd of March - WALK DON’T RUN 😉.

The famous Tik-toker writes a novel. I was eager to read this as the author is from the same city as myself and I’ve seen her videos and she really does crack me up. So when she writes a novel of course I wanted to check it out.

Tara Gallagher is the main character who seems to think her daughter does not think she is cool as she reaches her teenage years. Tara is trying to manage it all with 3 children. She is very funny in how she describes things and you find yourself laughing along with her and cheering her own.

One of the parts I really enjoyed about her life philosophy:

“Life changed, you know. That’s part of the deal when we become parents. You put your own needs to one side and focus on what’s important, which is putting those wains of yours front and centre”

We go along with Tara on her journey to discover who she is as she needs reaffirmation and a life adjustment as she has her ‘mid-life crisis’ from spin bikes to hair changes it was definitely hilarious if not a bit over the top sometimes. Of course you stick with the slang where you are from however as always I find it a little bit much. I think the audio version of this read would have been more enjoyable to hear the author herself saying it as I read this I pictured her voice saying everything.

I found myself reminiscing quite frequently throughout.

Some of the most enjoyable parts of this novel was when Tara stood up for herself in work after events occur she manages to get her own back. I feel that Tara should have more faith in herself, she doubted her self-worth quite often and her family should appreciate her more. Tara does quite a lot and deserves some me-time as with all parents, some more than others.

Overall, this is one of those novels where you want to keep reading, it makes you smile, laugh, and reminisce about the good ol’ times. A definite book to make your day or week even better.

Thank you Harper Collins for sending me this edition in exchange for an honest review.

4/5 Stars

A hilarious debut novel from TikTok sensation Serena Terry, aka Mammy Banter.

I loved this book to death. Anyone who has any Irish blood will recognise a fair few of the sayings shared as Tara describes her everyday life as a wife, mammy and woman.

The trials and tribulations of a newly teenage daughter, the demands made by two young lads and the inevitable 'jobs for the boys' boss who is condescending in his support of the hard working Tara.

It's just as well her 'pure ride' of a husband, Paul, can see beyond the sometimes gloss of panic that gets Tara through the day.

This book changes and grows as Tara rediscovers herslef, the self that is more than her role of mammy, wife, workmate and friend.

I loved being part of the Gallagher family for a short time and look forward to joining them again in further adventures as Gemma, Nathan and Jax take on the world in support of their 'cool' Mammy.

I've long been a follower of Mammy Banter on TikTok. She just sums up life so perfectly, kids oscillating between thinking you're slime on their shoe or the best thing ever. Moody teenagers, tiny terrorist toddlers, or the bedevilled tweens we've all got one of them in our lies even if they're not actually ours!

Poor Tara. I can honestly say that if she was a tad older, fatter and Scottish we'd be twins! My heart broke a wee bit seeing myself on display like that. never feeling that she's enough for anyone, including herself. Feeling lost amongst her wee family as just mum, Paul's wife or worker bee. But when that SM post goes viral, OMW I almost cried.

I dare you not to read this and get through a chapter without crying, laughing yourself sick or raging at the world. You'd be lucky to have yourself a friend like Tara. My wee heart sang when the Rebels became a thing! And of course, life just had to throw one more curveball when she least expected it!

Hilarious, heartbreaking and heartwarming!

HEARTWARMING AND VERY FAMILY RELATED!

I'm not a mommy nor a wife but I've never thought to love this book <3 It was hilarious and cool! From the cover page and synopsis, I've already known that I'm going to love every bit of it.

I was drawn to the setting of the book. If you're a sucker of family life, motherhood crisis, or declining self-confidence, I bet this will cheer you up as this book will give you a heartwarming feeling - as in it was okay to not feeling okay.

Serena Terry really has the talent to brim all the humor, mum-crisis, and motherhood that feels so close to me. If I'm going to be a mom soon, I can really imagine myself inside of Tara Gallagher. Battling with 3 kids which is an upcoming 'puberty-hit' daughter, 2 boys who always getting on her nerve, and a very understanding husband, Paul! Ops I can't leave her two besties - Cat & Amanda<3

She wants to be a cool mum but at mid-thirty something is not right.
She wants to be a Beyonce (to get her confidence)
She wants a career-driven journey but sucks with *patriarchy

I went through the up and down Tara in this book. Literally, I was there when she was devastating, happy, losing herself, and many more uncertain feelings. There are certain situations that I can relate to her. The daily struggle to look good for someone else - not for ourselves (which is kind of sad when you're reaching that point)

Eventho this book doesn't have any spin plot or big 'drama', it was still enjoyable to the max because of Tara's character. It was good and you will giggle in every chapter. Read it! Huge gratitude to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

In life it’s important to be able to laugh at yourself from time to time and find humour in the madness of everyday life. Serena Terry is certainly able to do this through her social media presence and in her writing debut.

The Secret Life of an Uncool Mum is a fabulous read, I laughed loads, occasionally had a wee tear in my eye and absolutely loved reading it.

This book exposes life as a Wife, Mum and friend as it truly is, the good, the bad, the absolutely totally embarrassing, it’s all in here! There’s so much of it most of us will relate to and laugh along at ourselves because of the way Serena wonderfully portrays family life.

Definitely worth a read, you’ll struggle to put it down until you are finished.

Mammy Banter is an absolute cracker of a book for any mum regardless of your age but equally you could enjoy this hilarious story without being a parent yourself.

I’ve been following Mammy Banter aka Serena Terry on TikTok for ages and always find her to be absolutely hilarious so when the opportunity to read this book came up I absolutely leapt at it.

Terry’s fantastic sense of self-deprecating humour translates from TikTok perfectly onto the pages of this book.
Mammy Banter is about the trials and tribulations of being a mother, a wife, a friend, a colleague, the importance of friendships and much more.

I went right through the ringer of emotions reading this book – I laughed out loud (loudly a lot) I teared up, I empathised, I commiserated, I was cheering Tara on and feeling sorry for her.

You’re up and down a lot with Tara which is exactly how it is when you’re a parent.

I could really relate to Tara as a working mammy myself – the daily struggle of not losing who you are as a person, trying to be a good mam a good wife, get on at work, keep in touch with friends and fashion and your passions – it is exhausting.

Not only is Tara battling with her teenage daughter and two little boys she is also trying to climb the career ladder, with some difficulty, trying to reinvigorate her marriage beyond a takeaway and Gogglebox and ignite some passion in her self!

Tara is so incredibly relateable – and we readers are taken on a journey where Tara tries find herself again and deal with the trials and tribulations of everyday life.

I couldn't and wouldn't put this book down – it was just brilliant.

I have genuinely not laughed so much reading a book in ages, five stars without a shadow of a doubt!

Tara is a 36 year old woman with 3 children, loving husband and a boring office job. Her teenage daughter thinks she is embarrassing and not cool. She is missing her old herself and one day after a boozy lunch with her friends, she writes a list of things she would like to change in her life. Here comes pink hair, spin classes and new clothes. Her husband is not too impressed, but still supportive.
It was a nice, relaxing book to read.

Although I’m a …..few years older than Tara, the uncool mummy in this story, I empathised with her feelings of losing herself in being a good wife and mother. I’m feeling rather unwell at the moment and this funny , warm book has been a real tonic to read. I genuinely giggled aloud several times and loved that the author managed to give us an understanding of how Tara was feeling but also helped explain what her 13 year old daughter was dealing with.

A modern tale of parenting told with humour. Very much based in the real world we follow Tara as she deals with, children, work and tries to find herself in the middle of it all. Light and bright many will channel their inner Beyonce after reading this.

What an absolute hoot this book was to read. Great characters you could immediately identify with and a very funny storyline. Reminded me a lot of the 'Why mummy...' series so you if you loved those books you will love this one too!

I loved Mammy Banter, Tara is a busy mum of - a teenager that abhors everything she does - twin boys who seem hell-bent on making her life even more chaotic than it is.
The story opens with Tara trying to give her daughter the perfect birthday party but she fails - badly!
Tara tries her hardest to please her daughter throughout the =novel, but all she is met with is disdain - typical teenager behaviour.
Our protagonist is also trying to secure a promotion, tried to keep the love alive in her relationship, and juggle family life - never mind trying to reinvent herself - pink hair anyone?
It is a laugh-out-loud novel and if many will empathise with Tara - I know I did!

I found this very amusing from the start. Some social media stars have written fabulous books – and others not so much (naming no names) – but this is very definitely in the former camp and was really entertaining.

I liked the main character Tara from the outset – and the fact that she has 3 kids – a teenager, a 5 year old and a toddler – meant lots of scope for child related anecdotes of all ages – and ages I’ve covered with my own tribe.

There were some bits – and some language – that was quite Northern Irish (but hey, I’ve watched Derry Girls, so was totally fine!!) – however I felt like I understood it all even though I’m a Brummie.

I liked the fact that the book covered Tara’s relationship with her husband and kids, her friends (old and new) and her colleagues – it really looked at all areas of her life and how everything intertwined.

Lots of it was so very true to life – the 13 year old daughter who is at one point mortified by her mother’s behaviour (mother AND father in our house!) but then also desperately still needs her parents. I loved the interaction with the smug mother at soft play (reminded me of a hellish experience at Kidzania with the mother of all hangovers one January 1st whilst on holiday!)

It was entertaining, funny, escapist, and very easy to empathise with Tara – a lovely, amusing read. It’s out next month, so not long to wait if it sounds like your bag.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my ARC.
