If you want an easy, fun read then this is the book for you. The main characters Flo and Dylan are very likeable. There are many turns in the fight for their chosen careers, both very different, and the added difficulty of pretending to be apart from one another.

My only niggle with this book is that it kept making me think of Adele´s song, Hello, which isn't a bad thing as I love Adele!

My thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for giving me the opportunity to read an advanced copy in return for an honest review.

The Fake Up was a disappointing read. I didn't connect with the characters and the ending was disappointingly contrived. I really wanted to like this book but sadly it wasn't for me. I

I can't fault the writing and there were some amusing parts to this book but I 'm sorry to say that I found it quite slow and a difficult read. Maybe I'm just of the wrong generation as I feel the story is aimed more towards young adults and so I found it hard to engage with the, (mostly), young characters in the story. I couldn't identify or sympathise with either of the main characters. Flo and Dylan, and didn't find them to be particularly likeable. Flo's Mum was a bit of light relief with her supercilious attitude towards Dylan making her a character to loathe so at least I felt some kind of emotion towards her whereas I found myself not really caring too much either way for what happened to Flo and Dylan to be honest. I ploughed on hoping that I would become more interested as the story progressed but sadly it was a struggle and I found myself skipping a few sections here and there. I'm sure that readers of a younger age than me may love this book but it sadly just wasn't for me. Sorry. My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Dylan and Flo have broken up. At least that's what everyone thinks!
Really they are still as much in love and its fun just being the two of them without interference from family and friends.
Soon they are in way over their heads and someone is going to get hurt!

I wanted to enjoy this but found it to be slow and dragged out and lacking in humour. Unfortunately this one just was not for me.

This book was easy to read and a good storyline. It wasn't the usual romance book that I read but I still enjoyed it, even though towards the end I didn't particularly like the main characters.
Just goes to show that fame isn't the be all and end all.

It started out great... two people in love that were sidetracked by the weight of their hurdles. He wanted to be an actor, she wanted to be a singer. Together they weren't getting anywhere, but, as soon as they break up, success hits on both their doors. They were each becoming a sensation of sorts and the heartbreak was a strong propeller into their new lives.

There was a potential for angst and growth, all layered with some acidic humour. Also, I was intrigued by a new take on the traditional fake dating trope. This particular couple was going to actually be together, and then pretend to the world they weren't.

Then, it all went wrong. This was not the romance novel I was expecting it to be, and the ending was very frustrating.

Loved up Flo and Dylan are struggling to make ends meet and find success in their careers. They are from different worlds and this causes friction resulting in an unexpected break up. Dylan lands a great acting job and heartbroken Flo writes a string of hits. They’ve hit the big time and are pitted against each other in the tabloids and by their reps. But they only broke up for a month and are secretly back together…

I was rooting for Dylan and Flo. And then I wasn’t. I’m not sure how I feel about the twists and turns except, I can admit, a little let down. Both characters were pretty self indulgent.

The Max and Jesse storyline was good.

Thanks the NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.

This is my first book by the author and I must say I was so surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The Fake Up follows Dylan and Flo navigating their relationship until their inventible break-up. Although they miss each other being single seems to help them progress their careers. It is told from both characters POV but I really struggled to connect with either of them.

Although full of cliches and stereotypes, on the surface it's a satirical second chance romance that also covers some plotlines with more serious roots such as sexuality and career pressures. All these combine to make a good read but it just didn't hit the mark for me.

I adored reading this one! I’ve never really read a book quite like this. At first I was like am I reading this right? It was interesting and funny to see Dylan & Flo and all their antics especially since everyone thought they broke up! Hilarious ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This felt like it should be a really enjoyable read, and some parts of it were, but it felt like the characters developed... backwards? I enjoyed them more at the beginning, then towards the end they became more like vapid caricatures than developed protagonists.
I really pushed through hoping that the ending would do them justice, and for a moment there it did! And then those last couple of pages happened and I came away from it feeling frustrated and disappointed in them.

Just really really fun; a perfect antidote to the grey months. Definitely recommend for any rom-com fans and anyone who likes sharp witty writing.

I really struggled to get into this book. It was slow starting and I didn’t feel any connection with the characters. Maybe it wasn’t the right book for me.

The Fake Up is a highly entertaining rom-com with warmth and humour from the start. Thanks to Little Brown Books for gifting me a book for review and for inviting me to review.

The Fake-Up is fabulous right from the first page. It has one of those beginnings that instantly reels you in and instantly. It is rather humorous from page 1. This humour just masterfully builds. It is the first book I have read of Justin Meyers and I am super impressed! It may well not be my last (hopefully). It is a fantastic, rom-com that brings unexpected twists. Some rom-coms are okay, but just make you smile here and there, but leave you wondering where the rest of the comedy element is, but not with this one. This one really makes you laugh out loud!

Dylan and Flo are in love. It wasn't, perhaps a usual start to a romance, but it sets the premise up for a rom-com well and making it a perfect book to cosy into.

Flo and Dylan's love life just isn't going well at all. There are many obstacles in the way and when they do break up, it is interesting to see how they channel their energy into song and acting to ease their pain.... It leads to a lovely and unexpected consequence in their careers, especially Flo's.

Then the fun happens when they decide that they don't really want it to be the end of their relationship at all and find all manner of ways of secretly seeing each other. It keeps an air of mystery to it as you can't help wonder if they'll be found out and if their rekindled romance will last. To break cover may not do their careers any good and there are the friends who are glad to see them apart. It keeps you guessing what will happen by the end. It is a book that makes you think it could end in either direction.

The comedic writing of Justin Meyers pitch-perfect for this genre and captures not just rom-com but also a touch of farce very well. It also has some plotlines that are harder-hitting, topical too, and yet are weaved in well, such as sexuality, the pressures of stardom, amongst others, without taking away from the comedy.

The book is perfect for after a hard day's work or a day for cosying up with a book. With all the good feeling around it and the fun, it'll make you feel good too as it is properly funny as well as smartly written. It has many ingredients all mixed well for a great, well-crafted rom-com.

Unfortunately, the book did not capture my attention long enough for me to complete it. The premise was interesting enough for me to want to pick it up, but I was unable to relate to the characters nor did it have a sufficient hook on me for it to be an un-putdownable read.

This offbeat and enjoyable rom-com, with its surprising twists and turns, is my first experience of the author Justin Myers. Would be actor Dylan and his musician/singer girlfriend, Floria (Flo) are struggling in their lives and careers, living in a cramped and dingy flat, with Dylan working in a bar for his friend, Max, who allows him time off to attend auditions and Flo is employed in a shop. Dylan loves Flo, always there for her, sitting in the same seat at Flo's and Elijah's gigs, providing unstinting support and love whenever she looks his way. Coming from a working class background, Dylan has had to face the disapproval of Flo's wealthier family, particularly her mother, Joy. Then there is the constant undermining of their relationship from Flo's longstanding friends, such as Estelle, and her suitably posh boyfriend, Barnaby.

I have to say I cannot understand why Dylan put up with them, nor why Flo thought this was acceptable behaviour from her friends. Eventually everything comes to a head with Dylan and Flo splitting up to the great delight of others, a break that proves to be just the inspiration each needs to start to become successful in their respective profession. Only the couple haven't really fallen out of love, as they keep their relationship below the radar and a secret. Where will it all end? This is a fun, intelligent and entertaining read, with flawed characters, an emotional rollercoaster of a ride, but there were parts that I found rather too laboured and more taxing as a reader, but I have no doubt many readers will love this. Many thanks to the publisher for an ARC.
