Aimed at children aged 9-12 'Welcome to Consent' is a brilliant book to familarise readers with the term consent.

The book touches upon laws, gives examples in the form of case studies and myth busts meaning you get a full dimensional view of the subject.

At times it is a bit repetitive but I guess that means you can't finish it without the message really being driven home.

"Welcome to Consent" by Yumi Stynes and Melissa Kang is a great introduction to the subject of consent, showing that consensual interactions go way beyond sex and intimacy. The chapters, scenarios and examples given by contributors are easy to understand, yet the authors encourage a critical approach to consent, showing many grey areas and possible solutions or ways to navigate certain situations.

At times, "Welcome to Consent" feels repetetive, however it seems to have its purpose, considering that for some readers this book would be the first time they're learning about consent. As the book is aimed at younger readers, I thought a chapter on puberty and its influence on person's reactions was a great addition. I also liked how the authors give the reader an opportunity to check in with themselves and decide if they want to read about sexuality and intimacy, or other topics, encouraging them to examine their self-consent as well.

Overall, it's a pleasant, nicely illustrated book for its age group, which can be also perused by adults who want to explore the subject of consent - either by themselves or with young people.

I think this book is essential reading for everyone! My one disappointment with it is the sexting part which at first makes it unclear if sending photos is illegal…later it is much clearer but I was uncomfortable with how it was first presented. Sending nude photos of anyone under 18 IS illegal. I also would have preferred the term “child sexual abuse” rather than “child pornography”.

However every other part of this book is AMAZING and I wish it had been around years ago.

Really easy to read, I love that there are quotes from children included as it helps to make it real.

An informative and user-friendly guide to consent.

As a school teacher, I'm always talking to the students about consent - so when I saw this book I jumped at the chance to read an early review copy.
I wasn't expecting the book to be so long!! When it says it's about consent - literally that is it - for almost 200 pages!! I think this book really dragged at times, and would have been so much better if it was 100 pages, and just more concise. The book is aimed at 9-12 year olds, and I honestly can't see this age group reading every page!
The book is informative - but just so repetitive because of how long it is!

The illustrations are great, and do help somewhat to break up all the text.

Overall this is a good book - but just think it's far too long and draggy. More precise and concise would have been a lot better!
