Great psychological thriller / mystery novel. You could sense the intrigue behind some of the seemingly innocent comments early on and it successfully drew me in to find out more. The different points of view concept worked nicely in this case, with all of the characters adding something different and being likeable and interesting in their own way. Interesting, unique set-up and I didn't see the twist coming which is always nice!

A gripping thriller! A very clever plot. Beth tries to piece things together after the disappearance of her husband Oscar. I kept reading this book late into the night as I just had to know the outcome .

What his Wife Knew is a first for me from Jo Jakeman, but it certainly won't be my last.

Beth Lomas thought she knew her husband. It isn't until the police turn up on her doorstep informing her that he has taken his own life, that she realises she didn't know him at all.

But it takes Beth some time to come to this conclusion. Her first thought, is that it can't possibly be her husband, he just wouldn't do it. Beth is convinced that there is more to it. The Police are certain it was suicide.

It isn't until Beth looks back on the week leading up to her husband's death that she begins to realise that perhaps not everything has been as it may have seemed. Her husband seems to have had money troubles, then she begins to uncover an affair. All these things point to someone looking for a way out ...

But Beth knows her husband, and his personality doesn't fit that of someone looking for an 'easy way out' of whatever troubles he had. She is so insistent that the Police begin to take her doubts seriously, and wonder whether there is more to Oscar Lomas' death.

None of them could have ever expected what they find ...

Excellent writing and kept me guessing until the end.
Beth Lomas is told her husband is dead , he has been found at the bottom of Cloud Drop and the police claim it’s suicide .
Beth can’t believe Oscar would do this , but does she really know her husband?
The characters are interesting and the story is absorbing , keeping my interest throughout .
Highly recommended and looking forward to reading more from the author.

When experienced hiker, Oscar Lomas’s body is found at the bottom of a remote cliff in the Peak District alongside a “sorry” note addressed to his wife, all signs point to suicide.
Starting to plan for his funeral, his wife Beth struggles to accept he took his own life and begins to search for the truth.
Discovering the Oscar kept many secrets and her marriage wasn’t as it seems, she discovers he has many enemies and sets out to discover who killed Oscar?

I really enjoyed reading this book and getting to know Beth and Oscar and the secrets he kept. I found the characters relatable and felt Beth’s grief and could totally understand the stages she went through as she searched for the answers surrounding her husbands ‘suicide’.
There were some good twists and at times I didn’t want to put it down as I just had to keep on reading.
I kind of guessed bits as I was reading, some were right, some weren’t. That’s what I love about this type of book and I loved Jo’s writing style.

I cannot wait to discover more books.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book

An absolutely brilliant thriller. I was captivated from the very beginning. I loved all the twists and turns of the unfolding story. I was rooting for Beth and her friendship with Molly. I loved how the story unfolded especially Oscar Lomas. The clues were all there but I never did see the end coming.

Oscar is found dead at the bottom of Cloud Drop, a near by hiking area. His wedding ring had been left in his car and a note at home reads ‘Sorry’. Police are quick to call it a suicide and strangely a number of people seem to go along with this conclusion. However, Oscar’s wife Beth doesn’t agree for one minute. Oscar wouldn’t do that. But the more questions Beth asks, the more she finds out that her husband, though by no means perfect, really wasn’t the man she thought he was, and if things couldn’t get any more worse, strange things start to happen and Beth doesn’t know who to trust.

Another great page turner from Jo Jakeman. I really enjoyed her last book, Safe House, and this is another good one to add to her list.

Full of twists, turns and mis directions, What His Wife Knew moves at a great pace leaving the reader eager to find out more. Told through the voices of the three main characters, Beth, Molly (Beth’s friend) and D C Lowry everyone seems under suspicion. Is Beth’s narration even reliable? Throw in a host of flawed characters and a secret in Beth’s past, all joined together with a well thought out plot, I found this a fast moving, engaging and enjoyable read.

I enjoyed how the story sets off straight from the start, casting it’s suspicions all through the book and ending with a great twist!

Some really good and unexpected twists in this new thriller by Jo Jakeman. I found this novel to be a real page turner.

The story is told from alternating perspectives of Beth (the wife), Molly (Beth's best friend) and DC Lowry. I really warmed to Beth and felt her grief of losing her husband to a suspected suicide, her confusion as she tries to uncover the truth and then her anger as she finds out her marriage wasn't all it seemed. We journey with Beth as she traverses each stage of the grieving process from denial, through anger and acceptance. The author deals with the subject of suicide in a very sensitive way.

I know people always write that there are twists you won't see coming and I hate to be cliché but I really didn't expect that ending. Definitely a book that deserves a solid 5 and one that I would happily recommend to fans of domestic thrillers.

I’ve enjoyed other books by the author and What His Wife Knew sounded like the kind of twisty thriller I like. This book ticks all the boxes for me; fast pace, unreliable narrator, flawed characters and plenty of twists, turns and misdirection. I liked the fact the book uses the point of view of different characters which forces you to read on to get the full picture. I found this a gripping read.

Was it suicide or was it murder? That is the question and one that this book does a great job of unravelling.

Oscar is found dead by his brother at the bottom of Cloud Drop; a note is found which just says "sorry" and his wedding ring in his car - a slam bunk you might say but his wife, Beth, is having none of it and the more she delves, the more she realises her husband is not who she thought he was but neither are those around her.

This was proper good! The story was compelling with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing and although I guessed the main twist, it didn't ruin the story for me at all as it was great getting there. The main characters are excellent and well developed and the pace is good.

All in all, a great psychological/domestic thriller and one which I would recommend to lovers of this genre.

The book was spoiled quite a lot for me by the weak female characters who could all have done with a good shake. The was Beth handled the information from him he was having an affair & then his death was insipid to say the least.
The plot could have made a good read but not this time.

A superb story of domestic suspense What His Wife Knew is a dark and disturbing read. Oscar Lomas, an experienced hiker, is found dead at the bottom of a remote cliff in the Peak District of England. DC Lowry Endecott is investigating the incident; did Oscar commit suicide and if so, why when he was happily married to Beth? Widow Beth is compelled to search for the truth. A riveting standalone mystery/ psychological thriller I'm pleased to have picked up.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Random House UK, Vintage via NetGalley at my request and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

I did not see it coming!

Beth is distraught when her husband disappears and the police class it as a suicide as he left a note saying ‘sorry’. She knows better; Oscar would never have left her on her own with their two children – but how can she get them to understand? Then, as details of his life begin to be uncovered Beth realises that she didn’t know her husband as well as she thought – in fact, did she really know him at all?

What a good read! Beth’s sorrow is palpable and her struggle to cope with her children is all too real. There is quite a lot going on in this one, and each character is carefully crafted to fit into the story. I was easily drawn into it and the surprises along the way came as quite a shock! Beautifully written in a timely manner, this is an author who knows how to keep her secrets until almost the very end. Very enjoyable and, hopefully, not the only one I shall read by Jo Jakeman. Definitely a recommended read and one I’m happy to give 4.5*.

My thanks to the publisher for my copy via NetGalley; this is – as always – my honest, original and unbiased review.

Jo Jakeman has written a brilliant page turner of a novel. Oscar Lomas has left a note saying 'Sorry' on the kitchen table. When his body is discovered, police believe he took his own life. Oscar's wife, Beth, is less convinced. As she begins to investigate it's possible she will uncover secrets she really didn't want to know.

The plot is very clever, the pace is just right and the characters are very well created. This is part police procedural and part psychological thriller and the aspects are expertly drawn together. This is the first book I have read by the author and it won't be the last.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Random House for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a good read that will definitely keep you guessing.
Beth is devastated to hear her husband’s body has been found and cannot believe it was suicide. He left a note saying ‘Sorry’ so the Police want her to accept it, but Beth knows it’s not like her husband to kill himself.
Lots of things come out about Oscar as Beth starts digging and she’s shocked by what she finds out.
There’s lots of people hiding things in this book and the mystery of Oscar’s death becomes more and more complex.
A good read.
