Partner Pursuit by Kathy Strobos is a romance that looms around a storyline of a workaholic lawyer and a laidback, chill music marketing executive. The story especially draws the line between being productive and being busy, and how when the line between the two blurs, it can cost you a lot.

This specific idea was the first thing that intrigued me to request this book in the first place, since I’m very anti-hustle culture. People often forget the difference between being a human being and a human doing, and it irritates the hell out of me and so, it was lovely to read a book surrounding a theme similar to that.

Anyway, lets stick to the topic.

This book revolves around Audrey, a lawyer who is looking for an opportunity to make partner in a law firm and for anyone who is a lawyer would know that making partner is a very important event of any lawyer’s career. She has known her entire life that she has to keep her eyes on the prize and not let her doubts deter her. Things go out of her way when she meets her new neighbour, Jake- a sexy, laidback music marketing executive who believes in the fact that work should be fun, not a prison. As a matter of fact, Jake has a special dislike towards lawyers because he knows how busy they get. He just doesn’t want to live a life with someone who doesn’t have time for anything else other than work.

If you like a coming of age, opposites-attract, workaholic meets chill romance then you’re in for a treat.

Okay, so when I was reading this book, I could see a lot of myself in Audrey because at one point in my life I was a workaholic like her. Like working 24 hours without breaks. That was me. I still kind of am but I have improved a lot. It’s a work in progress but anyway, I felt connected to the main character of the story pretty immediately.

I couldn’t stop thinking about the first half of the story as I read it. It was one of those moments when I kept thinking about the book even when I wasn’t reading it. It was all over my mind.

There were a lot of lawyer related topics that I had no clue about, so I skimmed through some of those because reading them made no sense to me, like most of it went right over my head so I skipped a few things when it came to the lawyer work related things so I knew enough to know what was happening in Audrey’s life but still not too much in detail.

In my personal opinion, I just feel that the author went way too much in detail about the cases the main character had to deal with without much context because honestly, they did not contribute anything to the story. Maybe just a brief mention of her work status would have sufficed the overall story. Including so many details made it boring for a layman like me who had no idea about lawyer things. But that’s just my personal opinion.

Another thing that troubled me a little was the lack of tension. I loved the first half of the book but the moment the two lovebirds get together in a relationship, the tension died. Also, the relationship thing happened very quickly. Or maybe I’m just old school who likes things slow when it comes to romance.

Anyway, this lack of tension bored me a little and I no longer felt inclined or drawn to pick up the book again. Thanks to my persistence and my ideology of never leaving a book half read that I picked the book again soon and finally, the tension was rebuilt when Audrey’s workaholism started affecting everything else around her.

The ending was good, although it did feel a little rushed but given that the story had no loose ends by that point, I let that slide.

Now onto writing, the prose was fun and easy to understand. 10/10 for writing!

What I loved about this book was how the author managed to pull off one of the most nicely done love triangle between Tim, Audrey and Jake. I couldn’t stop laughing when the three of them were in the same room and the boys were acting like literal children, grabbing for Audrey’s attention, claiming that they know her better! That was the best. I loved this effort because not a lot of people pull of love triangles that well. But it was done nicely in this book.

Overall I guess I would give this book a 4 out of 5 stars. I loved the story and the characters and I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a lawyer or a workaholic.

I would also like to thank Netgalley and the author, Kathy Strobos for giving me the opportunity to read this amazingly written book in return of an honest opinion.

Thank you so much for reading! 💜

This pleasantly surprised me. I must admit, I started this book with low expectations, and if I'm honest my interest stemmed from the fact it was set in New York. But this was a really enjoyable read. It wasn't boring at all, and it had a decent plot line. I learnt a lot about the life of a lawyer- and have most definitely been put off 😂. I found it incredibly insightful to see the conflict in law firms, especially between women, and I genuinely blame society for this, because we are constantly pitted against each other. I liked the love interest too, and seeing that slowly formulate was nice. I also really liked Jake as a character, his acceptance of Audrey was warming. I like how Collette softens to Audrey. I didn't like a lot of the men in this book, I felt like some were extremely entitled. All in all, this was a good book, and I'd definitely recommend it as a light hearted read.

A really wonderful read that I devoured in one sitting. My main gripe with romances is when the romance isn't believable, I did not have this problem here.

Loved the characters and loved the storyline, I would 100% recommend it to my friends.

Leading lady Audrey knows what she wants, has fought to get there and doesn't let anything get in her way. Dating can wait. That is until she meets jake. I couldn't put this book down and I got hooked on the story between Audrey and jake. I personally would have loved jake to ask Audrey to marry him at the end of the book but that's just me. If your a fan of authors like Sophie kinsella, Jill Mansel etc you will not be disappointed in this book. I cant recommend this book enough!!!

For me this book fell a little flat. The potential was there but the characters didn’t jump out at me in any spectacular way and I found the plot a little repetitive and I felt like there was so much emphasis on her job and not much else.

So, without telling you spoilers, Partner Pursuits by Kathy Strobos it's a book on the New York Friendship Saga. Tropes: opposites attract and friends to lovers. Audrey is a workaholic lawyer and her new neighbor Jake is a fun-loving music marketing executive. He appears to be THE ONE for her but he cannot love someone whose true love is her work. So she is willing to try to manage both love and work while she got the most important case in her career.

First of all, I want to thank NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion. I saw this book on NetGalley and, I just thought: I need to read this. However, I have tried and tried and tried to read this book a billion times and... I didn't have the need to keep reading, to enjoy it. This is my opinion, at this moment so don't get influenced by this. I encourage you to try this book because maybe it is not my type of book or maybe it wasn't the right moment to read it. I want in the future to really try again and finish it.

This story was equally charming and sweet. I loved the aspect of neighbors to lovers within this book between Jake and Audrey. They are both hugely different people that at first glance don't seem like they would get along, but a book shouldn't be judged by itself cover. They hit it off instantly, and as their friendship grows into something more they both help one another see the faults in the way they have been living.

Their gift exchanges were adorable, and I loved seeing how they both acted around Jake's niece and nephew. Not to mention his dog was a cute edition to the story.

I really loved this story, and I'm really happy with how it ended. Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this book.

Loved this book! All of the characters were very relatable.

Audrey was such a strong female character working to reach her goals. Her struggles with her work-life balance is something we all definitely struggle with.

This was such a cute romance and I can’t wait to pick up more books in future by this author ❤️

"I'm still learning not to let work swallow me up. But one way is to take time to savor your successes. "
- Partner Pursuit

Audrey is a hard working lawyer since her goal is to be partner to her firm company. While Jake is a marketing senior vice president, they introduce new musicians. It gives me interest because Audrey is a lawyer and I was able to imagine it's life in real world. This romance is in a slow-paced but I like how the author made it beautifully together.

Highly recommend this book to those workhalolic people, you learned how to manage to have a balance work and life wherein making it balance is the hardest thing to do.

This is the second book I’ve read by this author and man did I enjoy this. Workaholic Audrey isn’t someone Jake normally goes for. He doesn’t usually date lawyers. This is a fast paced book with a lot of a laughs and an interesting storyline. I will definitely be reading another book by this author.

Audrey and Jake. I fell in love with these two immediately. Not only together, but separately. Audrey Willems - lawyer who wants it all when it comes to her profession. Jake Miller - music marketing executive who works hard, who knows to not put work before his own life. Two completely different souls, that craves each other deeply. How will they maneuver their differences, and can Audrey learn to let go and see that work isn’t everything? I really enjoyed reading about these two dorks and all the laughs it brought me. And let’s not forget about our dearest Biscuit. This is a love story I will remember.

Audrey is an NYC, workaholic, lawyer hoping to make partner at the firm she's with. She’s crushed on Tim at work but now has a cute new neighbor who has also caught her eye. Audrey's struggle for a healthy work-life balance was completely relatable.

I really liked this. I loved the characters, I felt like Audrey was a strong female character working on her own to reach her goals. Audrey's struggle for a healthy work-life balance was completely relatable. There were a lot of "friends" in this book but it looks like that was a setup for more stories coming from the author. My only real con with this book was the (sometimes) lengthy passages regarding Audrey's work. I think the point of her being a workaholic and engrossed in her cases could have been conveyed without all the in-depth legal jargon.

I'm looking forward to more stories with this group from Kathy Strobos!

Thank you to @kathystroboswriter and @netgalley for providing me with a copy!

One word for this book: ADORABLE! This book made me laugh SO much. The characters were so fun. This is the best kind of rom-com.

This is my first book by Ms. Strobos and I enjoyed it very much. It was a cute and entertaining read with likable characters. I was looking for a light-hearted and fun read and this did not disappoint! This was a very charrming story about Audrey, who is a lawyer in a big New York firm and is working herself into a frenzy trying to make partner. She has no time for social life, let alone a love life. Jake is her new neighbor, and the complete opposite of Audrey. He grew up with a workaholic father and knows first hand how that can cause a strain in relationships. He lives his life in a more easygoing, carefree way. Despite their opposite nature, these two really click. I enjoyed following their journey and seeing them realize, particularly Audrey what is important in life. This was such an enjoyable story, and I'm glad I had the opportunity to read it. I am happy to recommend!

I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

“Are you sure you’re a corporate lawyer?”
“Positive. Why?”
“You seem too mischievous.”

Audrey is a corporate lawyer in NYC, up for partner in six months. She’s crushed hard on Tim at work forever, and now there’s a cute guy next door too! Is it worth potentially putting partner on the line for a boyfriend? And how will she choose who?

I really liked this. I loved the characters, weirdly especially Colette, I think me and her were definitely on the same wavelength at times! But the whole Audrey/Jake/Tim triangle just had me so intrigued throughout, and kept me turning the pages!

The only thing holding this back from being a five star in my book was how in depth the lawyer talk was… Let’s just say there were a few times I zoned out, but the in-depth romance side to it definitely had the rest of the book covered!

I’ve got book two in this series lined up ready to go over the next couple of weeks!

Workaholic lawyer Audrey Willems is not going to take any chances with her bid to become a partner at her New York law firm—especially with only six months until the decision.
Until she bumps into Jake—her new neighbor. Jake is a fun-loving music marketing executive who might just be The One. But Jake will never date a woman married to her job. His father was a workaholic lawyer who never had time for family.

This was such a fun & quirky read! I loved the NYC vibes it had which made the romance more charming. The romance was great and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you netgalley and publisher for the ARC
