Little Prayers for Ordinary Days was created by three authors. This was a great first book of prayers for children. The illustrations were lovely and just right for every situation. My favorites were:
*For waking up
*For rest time
*For a hard day
*For bed time
I highly recommend this for parents and grandparents. It is a helpful tool in starting up a daily prayer life. It 32 pages long.
And I loved ”A note from the author” which had lots of encouraging words.
Thanks IVP Kids via NetGalley.

I’ll be leaving a review on Amazon, FB, Instagram, BB, B&N.

Ohhh I loved this book!! I have two grandtwins who I am blessed to spend quite a bit of time with and pick up from school twice a week. I look forward to sharing these sweet prayers with them which shine a light on how God cares about all the moments in each of our days!

This is such a sweet book that many young people will love and cherish until they pass it down to their children or siblings. There’s a prayer in here for any situation a young person could think of, school time, when they’ve done something bad, brushing their teeth, having to eat something they don’t like. I loved reading through them all and I love that it encourages children to keep God in their hearts and minds when they can.

This book is lovely. It gives our kids simple prayers to pray throughout the day. It skips the big words and gets to the heart of prayer - thanksgiving, praise, petition, etc. This book helps kids to see that God loves when you share the ordinary things with God, because those things give God priase; when we listen to music, create, look at the stars, eat a meal - we can thank/praise God in each of those moments. Kids are naturally inclined to be thankful and this helps kids to be thankful in each moment of their day.

The ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a lovely little collection of prayers to guide children in finding words to talk to God. It speaks of normal days, hard days, and extra special days, reminding us all that God is listening no matter what. I especially enjoyed the little reminders of God’s character in the little things like naps, crafts, and missing friends. Highly recommend.

These are small prayers that can be taught to toddlers with pretty pictures that would attract children. Would recommend this book to parents who want to inculcate prayers in children early in their life.

What a wonderful and endearing book! Perfect to introduce the beauty of liturgies for every moment to the little ones.

I've not yet read Warren's "Liturgy of the Ordinary" so can't compare with that. Instead, this reminded me most of "Every Moment Holy", with prayers to fit in the everyday events of children. I loved the prayer "For when I have to eat something I don't like", such a real, needed prayer! I also really liked the series of three prayers: "For an everyday day", "For a hard day", "For a really good day" - giving children options to cover all their days. Each prayer speaks to the lives of children, and many to us adults as well. (My favorite as an adult is "For reading a book" addressed to "God the Storyteller"!

I'm reviewing a pre-publication ebook, so don't know completely how the final book will look. In the ebook version I read, the black and white drawings with hints of blue wash had a nostalgic, comforting feeling. I liked the diverse cast of children although I would have liked a few more who appeared Asian, Latino and Native American. The book as a whole has a timeless feel that will allow it to become a classic. Highly recommended.

This new picture book offers the structure of liturgical prayers for ordinary moments, geared for young children.

Liturgy is a form of worship. It is structured and oft-repeated. In the Anglican Church tradition that I’m most familiar with, the liturgy is laid out for the entire year, following a traditional church calendar, and centred around celebrations like Easter or Christmas. Anglicans follow The Book of Common Prayer, which offers prayers for those who are sick, for weddings, or for the Sunday after Pentecost. The idea of liturgy is that there is a prayer and Bible reading for just about every occasion. These prayers are scripturally and historically based so while they were written long ago by a council of people, they are also beautiful and moving and can bring the worshipper closer to God.

Little Prayers for Ordinary Days offers this same concept for children. There are prayers of thanks for a wonderful days, prayers for the start of the school day, for listening to music, or trying something new. These prayers cover a lot of basic and familiar situations for children of all backgrounds. They are simple and short, using easy language for kids to understand and speak for themselves.

Personally, I appreciate liturgy and its traditions more now as an adult than I did as a child or teenager. While I don’t think any of it is necessary and liturgy alone doesn’t bring me closer to God, I enjoy using some of these traditions now in my own devotions because it can give me a starting place. It can help to centre what I want to focus on in my prayers. It is a reminder that God is present in the mundane, the daily, the extraordinary. I think a book like this could do the same for a young child and for parents who want to help their kids learn how to pray on their own.

As I read Little Prayers for Ordinary Days I did wonder just what age this book is aimed at. The prayers seemed simplistic enough that they seemed geared for pretty young children. (Mine are 4 and 6 and those would be good ages for this book.) At the same time, those younger kids are not generally reading on their own (mine aren’t) and so I felt unsure how the book was intended to be used. Am I to sit down and pray these prayers out loud in the first person voice they are written in? I certainly could but I know I personally would find that slightly artificial. My reading of it probably wasn’t aided by the fact that I had an e-copy, meaning I was reading it on a device. That makes it a lot less organic to sit down and flip through with my kids. I think a hardcopy of this one would be much more beneficial and enable them to choose some of their own prayers.

Teaching your children to pray can be a tricky task. We pray with and for and in the presence of our girls. We ask them if they want to pray and the answer is usually, “No.” We never push it or force them to. When I ask them if I can pray for them, the answer is usually, “Yes,” and they often have contributions that they want us to pray for. I always want prayer to be something they want to do and enjoy, not something forced onto them but something they do because they understand and desire to have a relationship with God. A book like this could be a useful item in guiding them along that path and perhaps one day they will appreciate prayer and liturgy the way I have come to.

I received an ARC of, Little Prayers for Ordinary Days, by Tish Harrison Warren: Flo Paris Oakes : Katy Hutson. These are nice prayers for kids, getting up, going to school, jut regular ordinary moments, to talk to God in.

Adorable cover and lovely story idea! I highly recommend, even for adults - sometimes the "smallest" things are the most impactful.

Thank you, InterVarsity Press, for the advance reading copy.

It's such a healing process to read these prayers. I wish every child gets a prayer book like this to start their days with. It will fill them with confidence and all the support they need.

I find the prayers written well and fit for the young readers. And yes to the illustrations. They are so good. Kudos to the artist and the team!

I absolutely love this book of liturgy for children! As a human I have struggled with “open ended” conversational prayer. Unsure of what to say at times and how to give words to my feelings my parents taught me to pray the psalms. When I got older I found liturgical prayers to help with the rhythms of life and spiritual formation. As a mom now, I love that this book offers practical daily prayers to pray with and teach to my son. I love this excerpt from the opening of the book, “ Maybe these prayers will give you words for something you’ve been trying to say. Maybe you’ll end up praying something that you’d never think about on your own. You can pray these alone or with other people. Silently or out loud. These prayers are for ordinary days. For playing, for school, for when you have big thoughts or little ones. God meets you in each moment.” Amen! I highly recommend this book!!

I adore this book of prayers for children. In the vein of Every Moment Holy, there are prayers for waking up, reading a book, taking a bath, saying goodbye, and more. I’m excited to use this with our kids as we continue teaching them how to pray.
This sweet collection of liturgies for littles comes out at the end of May, but go ahead and preorder because it will be so worth adding to your shelf!
Thank you Netgalley and IVP Press for the advanced review copy.

Pros: This is a precious book for prayers for different times and occasions on an ordinary day--for looking in a mirror, for reading a book. for trying something new, etc. I love that these prayers do not ask for material things. The illustrations are lovely and inclusive of children of different races who might be reading this book and looking for themselves in the illustrations.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Thank you to NetGalley and InterVarsity Press, IVP Kids for the opportunity to read this book.

I loved these sweet lilt prayers. As a parent, I struggle with how to help my children pray and love the idea of giving them prayers to pray.

What a great little book to introduce praying to children. There’s something to be said about letting them know it’s ok to talk to God about everything - even the normal daily tasks - and not just when things are going poorly or we feel like we need him. I know many adult that could use this message - myself included. The pictures are adorable too and I think children ages 5-10 would really enjoy it.

A lovely collection of prayers beautiful illustrated. I particularly enjoyed the prayer about broken things. I think this book would be a great gift for a baptism or for a child starting a Christian sacrament.
