Well Gillian McCallister has just proved why she is an absolute queen of the genre. This is a mind blowing read that is guaranteed to pull you in and keep you hooked until the very last page.

I have loved all of Gillian’s books and this is quite possibly the best yet. I definitely have been completely engrossed in this one and unwilling to put this book down until the very last page.

This has horror, shock, tension, mystery and suspense from the beginning and the author has maintained this throughout the book. This is gorgeously written, fantastically plotted and an absolute gem from a queen of the genre.

You go on a complete rollercoaster as you read this one. The characters are brilliant and well developed. You feel connected and as though you know each of them.

This book definitely needs to be a made a film or series. It is just superb and guaranteed to keep you hooked! Completely unpredictable and guaranteed to leave you speechless.

An absolute must read and definite for your TBR.

At first I wasn’t sure as the main premise of this story was not, I thought, my cup of tea. However, this was a lot of fun! Really cleverly thought out, laid out, and written. I enjoyed it a lot and would recommend it :)

I have been thinking about what to write in this review to do this book justice. Wrong Place, Wrong Time is an addictive page-turner that had me invested and engrossed from the first few pages until the last. I read this in 1 sitting, as I could not put it down.

Gillian McAllister's talent for creating suspense and absorbing plots keeps getting better. She can take current societal issues and put her spin on them without losing the importance or sensitivity required, and this writing style within this book shows just that. The element of knife crime in younger generations makes this relatable and fresh. I am incredibly impressed with the timeline of this story; it was executed flawlessly and made it exciting to read. Something different to anything I read recently, this is certainly a book I highly recommend. This new release has become my favourite by this author so far! Very very impressive and intriguing!

The characters are likeable; although I had moments when I loathed Kelly, he pulled it back towards the end, within the big reveal! The jaw-dropping conclusion was a great twist, and I didn't see it coming, adding to the overall enjoyment.

Reviewing without adding spoilers is challenging, so I will say - "Read this book!"

I’d like to thank NetGalley and Michael Joseph for approving me for an ARC of this book. I am a huge fan of Gillian McAllister’s books and squealed with delight when I saw this one appear through my door!

In true Gillian McAllister style we are thrown straight into the action with Jen witnessing her teenage son committing a murder. I can’t even begin to imagine what was going through Jen’s head at this point and felt so much sympathy for what she had witnessed.

From there we watch Jen wake up the day before the murder and it is safe to say that she is thoroughly confused. I love stories that feature time loops/travel but I’m always worried that I’ll struggle to follow the story and keep up with what is going on. This was not the case with this story, I easily followed along with Jen’s journey and did not get confused at any point.

This is one of those stories that keeps you guessing. On several occasions I had that “What just happened” moment and felt compelled to carry on. Once all the reveals have taken place you realise that all the clues had been there all along but as a master of misdirection Gillian McAllister makes you look elsewhere.

I can not stress just how clever and twisty this book is, in fact I think it is my favourite of Gillian McAllister’s! Pacey, gripping and a pure delight, trust me when I say you want to read this book!

This is a completely original storyline telling the story of Jen, a mother who sees her son murder a stranger. The day following her son’s arrest, she wakes up and finds it’s the previous day – the day before her son has killed someone. As Jen’s story moves on, she finds herself waking up further back in the past each time. There is obviously a reason why this is happening, and it’s up to Jen to try and put all the clues together and work out what that is and how can she return to present day.

Wow! This was completely different to what I expected. If you thought it was just another crime/thriller, then think again! It reminded me so much of TV programs, like Life on Mars or Ashes to Ashes, but with the difference being that every time Jen woke up, she’d gone further back in time. The times she was revisiting were obviously important to her son’s storyline and what Jen needed to do to help him. I did initially find it a bit confusing, particularly with the added storyline of a policeman called Ryan. I did find myself losing track a little of where Jen was, and where Ryan’s storyline fitted into the timeline, but fear not, it all becomes very clear as the book moves on. In fact, when the storyline unravels it was done so cleverly it was just pure brilliance!

The story moved along at a good pace and held my attention throughout. I disliked Jess’s son, Todd initially, but as the timeline moved back, I grew to like him. Similarly, I liked Jess’s husband, Kelly initially, but as his storyline moved back into the past it made me not trust him at all! I loved how we got to visit different times gone by, sometimes only days from before, sometimes years, and the author has done a great job of including items from each era and highlighting the difference in lifestyles.

This was such a good read; I couldn’t put it down once I’d started it. I loved when everything started to slot into place, and try as I might, I wasn’t able to work it out until the author gave it to me! It was full of twists, turns, secrets and lies…and that ending was very very clever…OMG! If you find yourself a little confused with it all at the beginning, then don’t give up! Keep going with it as, believe me, it is 100% worth it! Fabulous! Amazing! Would definitely recommend!

This is one of the best books I have read for a while. The combination of a clever plot and imaginative, skilled writer makes this novel a work of art.

The premise of someone travelling back in time to prevent a murder in itself is not original: the way it is executed with intensity, logic and originality makes this an outstanding read. The story opens where a mother witnesses her teenaged son commit murder on a stranger. After his arrest she goes to bed to wake up on the day before. Thus her journey begins backwards, where she picks up details she had previously missed. To keep the time travel credible and not faring too far into fantasy, a university scientist from a real university (John Moores University in Liverpool) explains how such phenomena works. Brilliant.

The characters are, for the main part, likeable and detailed. Mannerisms, for example, are quirky and believable. The setting is painted well although I confess that this is my part of the world so the nostalgia could be a feature, but that can't detract from the author's depiction. Perfectly paced without any gimmicky events or stilted twists. A plot that is masterfully crafted and totally immersive.

This is a book about identity, observation, devotion and loyalty. McAllister's writing is superb - sharp, intense, poetic without resorting to clichés. The only criticism I have is the title is too mundane for such a great novel. Highly recommended.

This is my first read by this author and oh my goodness I am going back for more!

Imagine witnessing your son shoot somebody in front of you. You watch him being arrested, you are a lawyer yet powerless to help - why did he do it? And the next morning you wake up full of sorrow, fear…but this is not the next day, it’s the one before the shooting...
Wrong Place Wrong Time is one of the most ingeniously plotted thrillers I have ever read . I think my mouth was open for the whole of the read - how on earth did the author maintain this without going dizzy! I can only imagine notebooks and timelines and facts….It’s like Groundhog Day amplified. I absolutely loved this. For me the strength of this novel was without the plot and the ingenious and novel plot device and in the incredible and tangible love of Jen for her son Toby and between the three members of her family. This book keeps you guessing, twisting and spinning…it is like the ultimate in fair ground rides. Bravo!

With many thanks to Netgalley and .Michael Joseph for a digital copy of this book.. I will definitely be purchasing a hardback and suggesting it to friends, family.....well everyone!

A phenomenally clever, addictive read - I loved the story and the writing, and I couldn't stop reading. Sharp and unusual, I will be recommending to everyone.

What an extraordinary book this is, as it’s so well written that the implausible becomes completely realistic and the reader becomes completely invested in the characters and the outcome of the story. At the start, Jen witnesses her beloved son Todd commit a murder - he’s a good, geeky boy who she would never have believed capable of such an act. When she wakes the following morning, Jen finds herself in the day before the murder, and time keeps going backwards for her, in ever bigger leaps and bounds. Can she stop the terrible event happening? Can she change the course of Todd’s history? It does sound very far fetched as a plot for a thriller, but somehow this all hangs together beautifully, and as the book progresses it becomes more and more difficult to put it down. A really original and riveting read.

Gillian McAllister has written a highly original, taut, modern thriller. If I am honest, I am not usually a big fan of books involving time travel as I find the concept very difficult to believe. But this was very different.
Jen is waiting for her son Todd to come home, watching him from a window one October night, she is relieved to see him walking up their road but then she is horrified as another man approaches in the opposite direction. She watches as Todd takes out a knife and stabs the man to death, she holds the dead man in her arms and looks on as her son with his whole future ahead of him, is arrested for murder. She feels sick when she wakes up the next morning knowing her son is in a police cell, only he isn’t, he is in the house as Jen has gone back in time and woken up the day before the murder takes place. This keeps happening, sometimes just a couple of days earlier but some times whole years before. Once Jen has ascertained that she is not going mad, she realises that she is going back in time in order to prevent the murder, but how?
I was so impressed by the way that Gillian McAllister used the concept of time travel within her story. The way she presents it, almost anchors it in reality, you cannot help but believe in what is happening to Jen. One character is an expert in the field and Jen goes to him for advice. I loved the poignancy of their scenes, he very quickly believes her and does all he can to help.
I can’t even begin to explain how many twists and turns there are in this book, I have no idea how McAllister kept all the different threads together and presented them so slickly. I lost count of the amount of times that I gasped when I just didn’t see things coming.
Wrong Place, Wrong Time is brave and original, you have to read it!

I was so excited for this book, and whilst I haven't read the entire back catalogue of Gillian McAllisters amazing books, I knew that I NEEDED her new release (even if I did already have a proof and Netgalley arc!). I managed to grab a copy, meet Gillian, see what Wendy was up to and get my book signed at the recent @the_book_taster live event.

This had me HOOKED! This honestly is a gripping and shocking page-turner of a book. My jaw dropped several times whilst reading. It's so cleverly written, playing with time, a compelling mystery. Mind blown 🤯

Get reading it if you haven't already!

As my first Gillian McAllister book I was excited but not sure what to expect with Wrong Place Wrong time.

I think no matter what my expectations would have been blown out the water! It is such an original concept for a book, I found it extremely clever and impossible to put down.

The book opens with mum Jen waiting for her teenage son to return home. Its late, and she is worried. She sees him approach a man on their street and before her eyes, her son commits murder. After a torturous night of little sleep, Jen awakes…and it is yesterday. Every day she wakes up further into the past, and needs to find answers…

A truly ingenious and fascinating thriller and mystery with absolute attention to detail throughout, this book is a masterpiece in plotting.

Flipping the traditional ‘whodunnit’ into a ‘whydunnit’, we follow Jen as she tries to uncover minute details of each day in which she awakes. Her character raises the issue of mum guilt. She constantly questions her actions; why she didn’t see this coming, why she spent so much time at work, why didn’t she listen more, why, why, why.. A constant self-beration I’m sure shared by parents everywhere.

Jen uses this unusual gift to not only try and save the victim and her son, but also save her relationship with him, which I think brings this sci-fi thriller back into the realms of reality. All of us can relate to wishing we could have more time, to have a do-over and concentrate on what is important.

As the book progresses and we head further back in time, I became more gripped with the unraveling story and could not put it down. Although I guessed
some small part of the ending it was still mind blowing and extremely satisfying.

One of the best thrillers I have read. Smart, addictive and refreshingly original, this is a must read for mystery fans everywhere.

Loved it! Loved it! Loved it,
What a clever and original plot. The characters were true to themselves through all the time travelling. No quick change of personality to fit the plot here just a genuinely well thought out story.
The author explained she wrote the book through two lockdowns. I loved through those same two lockdowns and wish I could have accomplished something even near her success. I did try to learn Spanish for a few weeks though. Each to his own I say.

A brilliantly unique thriller, I absolutely loved it! Probably one of the best I've read as the plot was so well crafted. It starts with Jen's teenage son murdering a man. When she wakes up the next day she realises it's actually yesterday. She then relives days or periods of time and keeps going back in time. Each time she see or discovers or experiences something else which goes towards explaining the circumstances leading up to the murder. It's really cleverly done, very gripping and immersive. I doubt I would pick up a book if I thought it was on 'time travel' but this is a thriller and it plays out like a thriller despite having some time travel elements. The realism for me was when Jen woke up wondering what time period she was in and it was a house she had previously lived in, recalling an uncomfortable bed or the pattern of a carpet or if she had a mobile phone, was it a brick? Picking up on elements like how old her son was, were her parents there etc. The clues were there but it was all in the unfolding, fantastic twists and a very satisfactory ending. Highly recommend!

Jen is a workaholic lawyer happily married to the love of her life, Kelly and their teenager son Todd.
One night she’s waiting for Todd to come home and she sees him violently stab a man who is hiding in the shadows. At once her world collapses. The Police arrest Todd and when they get back from the Police Station she and Kelly fall exhaustedly into bed.

The next day is not really the next day, she finds she’s gone back a day. She wonders if she can stop Todd ruining his life but as soon as she goes to sleep she’s back in the day before, sometimes several days. She’s not sure what lesson she’s supposed to learn but she’s going to try her hardest to stop anything bad happening to her son…

I did find it a little slow to start off with but it soon gripped me and didn’t let me go! It’s very carefully and meticulously crafted which had me thinking about it when I wasn’t reading it and trying to work it out when I was!

Jen finds out a lot about herself, her husband Kelly (some things she doesn’t like at all) & about her boy, Todd. She never knows at what stage in her life she’ll wake up and does some remarkable things making some things right and smoothing other things over.

A cracking read, which I really enjoyed.

Jen is a lawyer, happily married to Kelly with a teenage son Todd. On the night the clocks go back she is waiting for Todd to come back & smiling at how he's used that hour to his curfew's advantage! As she sees him approach the house another person steps out & to her horror she sees Todd with a knife violently stabbing the man. Her world crumbles. After the inevitable aftermath she falls into bed exhausted. When she wakes the next morning it takes her a while to work out that somehow she has gone back a day- can she stop the inevitable? However every time she sleeps she goes back further & gets more confused. If she can't stop Todd from doing what he did, why is this happening.

Well I can confidently say that I've never read a murder mystery quite like this one. It was incredibly cleverly done & in less skilful hands could have turned into a confused muddle. However Gillian McAllister is too good a writer to let that happen! I really enjoyed this one. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

Well it's safe to say I haven't read a book like this before - and that's because I believe it must be unique.
Jen witnesses a crime and from then on keeps waking up having travelled back in time to pertinent events in the past related to the crime.
Think Groundhog Day in reverse in being about the closest I can equate it to.
Forget about the science and this is a really, really clever way of telling a who-dunnit and unravelling a really interesting story.
A definite page-turner and highly recommended to have universal appeal to all.

Really grateful for the advance review copy - thank you.
A highly enjoyable book.

This was an absolutely fantastic read! I was hooked from the start and didn't want to put the book down. It's difficult to talk much a bout the book without giving too much away, but the main premise is that Jen witnesses her son murder someone one evening, and she wakes up the next day and finds that it's actually the day before she went to sleep - therefore the day before her son committed the murder. Jen then keeps waking up at different days in the past - all leading away from the day her son committed the murder. We get to read along as Jen uncovers details of why her son did what he did on that day and what she could possibly do to help stop it.
I thought this was such a fantastically written book and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It kept me guessing to what would happen next and I was very happy with the ending. I would 100% recommend picking this up, especially if you've read other Gillian McAllister books as I think this is her best one yet.

Gillian McAllister is one of those authors that I can now claim to read without even reading the synopsis first. I know I'm going to be in for a treat.

This is a really clever premise and executed really well. I liked the picking up of clues as we are taken backwards in time, and realised what was missed the first time around. It's very cleverly done. The only minor gripe was, although I was heading for 5 stars all the way through the book, the ending left me a little cold. I just couldn't buy it properly, it felt a little too neat and overly sentimental to me.

On the whole, though, a great read.
