What a fabulous book! So complex in the plot and so very clever. I was totally engrossed from the first page to the last and ground myself gasping out loud on more than one occasion. I have never read anything like this and can only applaud the author for pulling it off so seamlessly.

Its difficult to review this book without giving away the ingenious and suspenseful plotline. Suffice to say that ive read a lot of books in the last few months and this is the best by far. I know it's a cliché but i honestly couldn't put this book down and read it over 2 days. Can't wait to read more of Gillian's books as soon as possible.

Amazing! So cleverly written. Essentially a crime back to front, but to get all the details and many twists in the right order is just breathtaking. I thought I might have a problem with the time slip, but it is so gripping I was hooked from the start, read it all too quickly anc absolutely loved it. It deserves to be huge!

Wow, just wow.

Jen is a middle-aged lawyer, married to Kelly (a self-employed painter and decorator) with an eighteen year old son Todd. On the Saturday just before Hallowe'en, on the night the clocks go back to mark the end of British Summer Time, Jen is waiting for Todd to return home from a party when she sees him accosted by an older man in the street. feeling deeply uneasy Jen and Kelly run into the street only to see Todd stab the man several times.

When Jen awakes the next morning, ready to go to the Plie station to get Todd a lawyer etc, she is astonished to find that Todd is at home. Neither Todd nor Kelly has any memory of the previous evening's events and it becomes obvious pretty quickly that Jen has woken up on the Saturday morning (again), before the stabbing, can she do anything to prevent her son possibly spending twenty five years in prison for murder?

With her lawyer's eye for detail Jen notices things as she relives the day that she never noticed before but each new clue is just a fragment - now she notices that her son has become thinner, less joyful than he was six months ago, is she a bad mother for not paying attention? Did something she failed to do lead to the stabbing?

Each day when Jen awakes she wakes a day earlier, then a week, going further back in time, discovering everything she thought she knew about her life and her marriage was a lie, but still no closer to why Todd killed the man.

I honestly spent several hours annoying my husband enormously yesterday by exclaiming at regular intervals over the latest twist in this book. What made it so enthralling was that I genuinely did not see half the twists coming, and yet they made total sense when they unfolded. I really wanted the Eastenders' theme tune to dum dum dum at the end of half the chapters as yet another truth was uncovered.

There are so many things I won't discuss because to do so might spoil the novel for the reader. Suffice it to say that I was not only 100% invested in the novel while I was reading it, but when it finished I was also fully onboard with the ending (unlike another book which was too clever for its own good which I read recently), as I sit here the whole thing ties together beautifully with no concerns about plot holes. This reminds me of that film The Usual Suspects (in a good way) as the reader is led one way, then another, in the search for the truth.

I have never read a book by Gillian McAllister before but if this is the calibre of plotting I will be looking up some of her previous books lickety-spit.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I was intrigued reading the blurb for this novel - and the actual book definitely lived up to my expectations.

A murder-mystery-time-travel-heartwarming-family-tale hybrid, Wrong Place, Wrong Time take a concept that could easily be fumbled and executes it almost perfectly. I found myself easily warming to Todd, Jen and Kelly and really wanted to discover what was behind the mysterious circumstances that led to the murder in the first chapter.

I would recommend this to any mystery/thriller fans.

Gillian McAllister has always been a fantastic thriller writer and an author who’s books are always so highly anticipated. In her latest novel, she does not disappoint. This novel is so clever. It could be argued that it might be too clever! It did take me a while to get into the format of the book. Once I got my head round that the author was telling the story backwards and each new chapter went back into time, I could not believe just how clever it was and struggled to put it down. I did guess who Ryan was and once I had figured this out, I found that the book became that little bit easier to read. I raced through the book and was so eager to read it when I was able. The book kept me engrossed and the book was tense and suspenseful. I could not warm to Jen for some reason, but I really wanted her to get justice for Todd. I do not think the character could have coped if Todd had been taken away from her. There were so many things that I loved about this book. On reflection, after reading the book, I will definitely re-read the book when it is released in physical format and appreciate it for the masterpiece it is.

I was approved to read an ARC of Wrong Place, Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister and I was ecstatic. I had heard so much about it that I was counting down until I got my copy in May. So last night, I gave myself the night off and settled down to read it, knowing I was in for a treat.

That was an understatement. This has to be the most phenomenal work of fiction I’ve read. Gillian McAllister has now ruined all other books for me! What Gillian has done with this book is mind-blowing. I loved every single second of it. What stood out for me was how incredibly talented Gillian is to tell a story in reverse order. This was the concept that drew me in, but I had no idea how masterfully she would deliver it.

I absolutely loved the theme of hindsight in this book. I loved going back further and further in the past and exploring how certain things that happen in the past impact the future. It was pure nostalgia at some points, remember things about my past that I had forgotten. I think all of us would love to be able to go back and do things differently and this book encapsulates that. I don’t feel that anything I write here will ever be able to adequately express how much I loved this book. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like and I read it in four hours without stopping. It is a sheer masterpiece of fiction and Gillian deserves every accolade going for writing this book. I am going to read it again when I get my physical copy as I want to go on that journey again. I implore you, if you want to read a fantastic, gripping intelligent book - then this is the book for you! Well done Gillian McAllister - this book is amazing!

When Jen's teenage son, Todd, murders a man for no apparent reason, Jen is devastated. How could this happen? Is this her fault? Wracked with guilt, she is confused, then terrified when she wakes up the day before the murder. How can this be? How can she explain the events about to unfold to her husband Kelley? Jen finds herself moving further and further away from the crime, finding more and more clues to the big picture. But will she be able to stop her beloved son from committing such a heinous crime...

I very much enjoyed this book. I found it difficult to follow in places as it jumps about so much, but it has to! It's so clever and the pieces whirl tantalisingly close together before finally, satisfyingly, snapping into place. I've never exclaimed aloud so much as when I read this book! I loved the characters and as an owner of a (soon to be) teenage boy, I really felt that the relationship between Jen and Todd was beautifully explored. I also loved watching Kelley's relationship with Todd through Jen's eyes and the benefit of hindsight.

This is a well paced and slick thriller with a brilliant, well-executed premise. I couldn't put it down! I don't believe I've read any of this author's previous works and I shall try to rectify this immediately. Read this book. You won't regret it! Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for my ARC.

I have heard nothing but fantastic things about this book, which worried me because could it truly be THAT good?? The answer is YES. It's the most unique concept for a book, nothing I have read or seen before. The characters are fantastic ( i LOVE Jen), and as someone who grew up on The Wirral, the fact it was set in Liverpool just made the writing, characters and setting just feel so real to me (anyone else??). Gillian is without a doubt my favourite author, her writing is both gripping and still somehow a breath of fresh air. Love love love.

Gillian McAllister is one my of my 'go to' authors. I never need to read the blurb to know I'm in for a great read, and Wrong Place, Wrong Time was no exception. The title hooked me immediately and I hoped this book would be as fantastic as her others. The book gets off to a brilliant start. Jen, married to Kelly, is standing at her landing window one night when she witnesses what she knows is about to transpire into a terrible crime. She runs out onto the street, but is too late to stop a man from being stabbed. What makes this so particularly awful is that the person who has committed this crime is Todd. Jen and Kelly's son. From this point on, Jen is thrown into a time loop, travelling back through time. Can she go back far enough to actually change the future and prevent this crime from happening? The plot is thick and the twists, turns and revelations come thick and fast. I couldn't read this book in one go because I really had to concentrate hard to keep up with events, and to be honest, I found that slightly off putting. It all got a bit too confusing sometimes. But on the whole, I really enjoyed it and am very grateful to Netgalley, Gillian and her publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC.

I've really enjoyed all of Gillian McAllister's books, and this was absolutely no exception. I wouldn't normally go for a timeslip novel, but McAllister handles the device with such skill and seeming ease. This was utterly compelling, smart, deft, surprising, and much more emotional than I was expecting it to be. A fantastic read.

My first book by Gillian McAllister, but certainly not my last!

Wow, what a ride!! Wrong Place, Wrong Time....Jen witnesses her son killing a man one night, a stranger....in a scene she doesn't quite understand. She has no idea why this has happened and what would drive her son to do it. He is in jail and she goes to bed, devastated, wondering how she'll fix this in the morning....

Only she wakes up and it is the day BEFORE the murder happens. How can that be? Is she going mad? But no, this is really happening, and every morning she wakes up it is either one day further back, one week further back, maybe even more.....she doesn;t know when she'll wake up, but Jen realises there's a clue in every seemingly random day that she is waking up. The more she learns though, the more she wonders.....does she know her family, her friends? Who can she trust??

This book was such a great read....well paced, an absolute page turner with so many twists and revelations! I literally gasped out loud a few times and my husband would spin around and go: what? oh your book!

The book also touches on a mother's guilt....is she responsible for her child being a murderer? Going back in time, can she change anything, redeem herself as a mother if she is indeed the cause? I thought the characters were really fleshed out well and I felt for Jen, who kept wondering when she'd wake up from this nightmare.

Highly recommend!

I have loved all Gillian McAllister's books and she has outdone herself with this one. The quirky use of time travel to unravel events leading up to a murder is unique and masterful. It was so different but absolutely absorbing and not at all predictable. Excellent read.

There is only one word for this book - STUNNING! How clever is Gillian McAllister and how does her brain work for her to be able to come up with this tale and all of the twists and turns. Honestly unbelievable. I loved the premise and it was so clever going in reverse to find out what had brought us to that moment. Definitely one of my favourite books of hers and I have loved every one. You must must must read this!!! Thank you to the author and publisher as well as NetGalley for an advanced copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

I have read and enjoyed all of Gillian McAllister’s precious books but I must say I had my doubts when I read the blurb for this one. I’m delighted to say my doubts were unfounded and this may actually be her best book yet. Initially it feels strange to be shifting back in time but you do get used to it. Jen was a really great central character and you can’t help but feel for her as she tries to sort out what she can or should change as she navigates back through time. This is just so well plotted that you can only marvel that such quality came out of two lockdowns. Great book, highly recommended.

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. There was so much hype about this book and I couldn't wait to read it. This is an interesting concept for a book, but she made it work. I do feel some parts in the middle were slow moving, but I powered through it. So many secrets were revealed and I was interested to see how Gillian tied them all together, It can' t be easy to basically write a book backwards. Great book! So many surprises toward the end!

Fabulous book. Gillian has come up with such an original concept which is so hard to do with a thriller - and huge congratulations to her for pulling it off so successfully. I wondered if this book would be a bit like 'Groundhog Day' and feel repetitive, but this was absolutely not the case. I was totally gripped, and as with all of Gillian's books, her characters are brought to life in the most realistic fashion so the reader fully empathises with them. A wonderful read.

Gillian McAllister is one of my favourite authors, so I was delighted to have the opportunity to review Wrong Place, Wrong Time,

Jen lives with her husband Kelly and their teenage son, Todd. One night, Jen witnesses an event that would change their lives forever. However, as the consequences begin to unfold, she is taken back in time. Jen is able to experience how things got to that point by gaining snippets of observation along the way. Has her whole life been a lie?

The writing flows easily and kept me engaged throughout. There were a couple of jaw-dropping moments for me. The author does a fantastic job of drip-feeding information but still adding unexpected twists. The structure was unusual with the time changes, but it wasn't confusing at all.

I will be highly recommending this read.

Thanks indeed to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

A fantastic story that is so different to most stories as it uses a reverse time travel. Intriguing and emotionally charged as you follow the past to get to what caused the present!
