There are plenty of twists and turns in this one. I found myself completely hooked and unsuccessful at trying to predict where this would go.

I was instantly hooked by this one. It’s one of those books that pulls you in instantly and becomes completely unputdownable.

II’ve literally devoured this in just one sitting with no regrets. This is an absolute must read.

This is the second instalment in the Andrea Oliver series with the first being Pieces Of Her. I loved Pieces Of Her but this one didn’t hit the same at all. It did feel like it could have been a lot shorter and at times lost my interest due to that. The story unfolds in the form of 2 storylines with one being in the past and the other present day. I did find it a little repetitive and at times went around in circles. With the past storyline it felt like it left unanswered questions and the present day storyline was a little dragged out but did have a few surprises along the way. I really liked Andrea as a character but I loved Bible with his straight talking quirky personality. It didn’t leave the same mark as pieces of her but it was still engaging and worth a listen.

3.5/5 🌟🌟🌟/🌟

This was a phenomenal book. This is my second book from this author, I absolutely love her storyline, her characters, just everything about it.
I did find the chapters slightly too long, but everything else was perfect.
I thought I had worked out the plot, but was totally wrong, so many twists.
Some parts were hard hitting, and couldn’t help feel so many emotions with it.
Such a fantastic book.
Highly recommended.

Karen Slaughter is one of my absolute favourite thriller authors. The darkness that is present in all her books keeps me gripped.

The novel 'Girl, Forgotten' is a captivating literary work that engrosses the reader from the very first page. The author's ability to develop each character uniquely and provide them with a backstory is noteworthy. The plot is well-written and evokes a range of emotions in the reader. While the story may be sad, it is also intriguing and keeps the reader engaged. The pacing of the novel is well-done, and its length is ideal for maintaining reader engagement from beginning to end. Overall, this book is recommended to anyone in search of a well-written, character-driven narrative that keeps them on edge until the conclusion.

I am a huge fan of Karin Slaughter and have loved every one of her books. Girl, Forgotten is no exception. I very much enjoyed Pieces of Her, which this is a sort of sequel too (although I don’t believe it is crucial to have read Pieces of Her to enjoy Girl, Forgotten), and I was once again completely gripped my Slaughter’s compelling, dark and propulsive plotting and the murky characters. I would thoroughly recommend this book and indeed all of Karin Slaughter’s work!

This is the first thriller I have read which featured United States Marshals. I found it quite interesting and different to read a story that heavily featured Marshals.
I like Deputy Bible, he’s funny and he’s kind.

I couldn’t put the book down. It was definitely what I’d call a psychological thriller, exploring not only murder and rape, but also stalking and cults. Karen knows how to throw some twists right when you least expect it! My jaw dropped a couple of times throughout reading.

Girl, Forgotten is the sequel to Pieces of Her (now a Netflix series) but it can be read as a standalone novel. However, I will definitely be picking up Pieces of Her because I want to know more about Andrea and Laura’s story.

If you have never read a Karen Slaughter thriller, you are missing out! My goal for 2024 is to read her backlist.

"Girl Forgotten" unfolds around a cold case from the 1980s involving the brutal murder of a pregnant teenager. The case regains prominence as the victim's mother, now a federally appointed judge, faces death threats.

The narrative follows two main storylines. The first introduces newly graduated U.S. Marshal Andrea Oliver, tasked with her inaugural federal case: protecting a federal judge under death threats. The second delves into the life of Emily, an 18-year-old pregnant teen murdered on prom night.

Emily's murder remains unsolved, and the identity of the father of her child remains a mystery. The story is narrated by Andrea in the present and Emily in the 1980s.

Author Karin Slaughter brings her signature style to the novel, crafting a compelling narrative with intricate characters and a suspenseful plot. The deep connection to Emily and Andrea adds a layer of authenticity to the story, keeping readers engaged and eager for each chapter's continuation. The book, a testament to Slaughter's storytelling prowess, is a captivating and thrilling read that will undoubtedly leave readers wanting more.

I chose to read a free eARC of Girl, Forgetten but that has in no way influenced my review.

Newly qualified US Marshal, Andrea Oliver, has been an official Marshal for no more than a few minutes when she’s handed a secret mission by a US Senator. Under the guise of an official assignment, Oliver is to head to Longbill Beach, Delaware and investigate the forty-year-old murder of teenager Emily Vaughn in 1982. The case has never been solved but suspicions as to who brutally attacked and killed Emily run high. And finding proof that the one person in Emily’s life at that time who was capable of murder did, in fact, commit the felony would make a number of high powered people very happy indeed. Will Andrea be able to discover who killed Emily all those years ago, or will the killer silence Andrea first…?

Girl, Forgotten is a very intriguing suspense thriller from a master storyteller and I absolutely devoured it! Slaughter is able to draw the reader in from the get-go and you know, without doubt, that you’re in safe hands. You know that the book you hold in your hands is going to hit all of the marks of character, plot, storyline and setting. I have to admit, I’m a fan of the author but I have fallen a little behind with her new releases. For example, when I picked up Girl, Forgotten I wasn’t aware that it was the second book in a short series featuring Andrea Oliver. I’ve read a number of Slaughter’s Sara Linton and Will Trent books, I’ve read a standalone or two. This was my first Andrea Oliver book. I have no idea what happened to Andrea in the first book, Pieces of Her (nor have I seen the Netflix series). The past is eluded to in Girl, Forgotten and enough information is provided by the author to give a new reader the bones of any previous storylines but…you can’t help but feel you’ve missed something. And what I did learn SOUNDS INCREDIBLE so I feel I made a bit of a mistake by not reading the first book in the series before Girl, Forgotten. My bad! Luckily, you don’t need to make the same mistake I did. However, if you do choose to read Girl, Forgotten first then fret not, there is enough information and backstory present to partially fill the gaps.

Would I recommend this book? I would, yes. Girl, Forgotten is an expertly written, all-consuming thriller from an author who knocks it out of the park every single time. The dual timeline was handled well with flashes back to the 80s, the day of the prom and the days leading up to Emily’s vicious attack. Andrea Oliver guides the reader through the chapters set in the present with her new partner, Deputy Leonard ‘Catfish’ Bible adding words of wisdom to the investigation along with his sometimes humorous insight. His conversations with his wife really add a lighter tone to a fairly dark novel. In a town where everyone has a secret, will Andrea be able to sift through the lies, the half-truths and the misremembered memories to find out who killed Emily? I had my own suspicions which were eventually proved right but that did not take away from the gripping nature of this superb novel. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed Girl, Forgotten from the moment I cracked the spine. Karin Slaughter remains a favourite author of mine and I’m encouraged to re-read all of her books in the near future as they’re that good! If you’re a thriller fan and you haven’t read a book by this author yet, then you’re clearly doing it all wrong. Gripping, intriguing, expert storytelling. Slaughter is a master of the written word. Recommended.

A great read filled with suspense and intrigue. A fast paced thriller that can be read as a stand alone. The story has a sad premise but kept me fully engaged with its twists and turns

This book was brilliantly written and kept you guessing right to the end - loved the characters and the relationships and friendships in the story

A gritty murder mystery set in two time frames. I found this style of writing a bit too 'rough' for my taste and must admitt that I skipped through the second half as I found it dragged on a little too much.

Another great read from the author. Telling a tale over a split timeframe, but creating the suspense required to keep you hooked to both parts of the story is a very good skill.

If you like thrillers that keep you guessing until the end, it's a must read.

I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publishers in return for my personal opinion and review of the book.

Longbill beach in 1982, Emily Vaughn is getting ready to go to her prom. She should have been excited but she has a secret and by the end of that night, because of the secret she will be dead.

Forty years later Emily's murder remains a mystery.

Andrea Oliver has just graduated and is now a US Marshal whose first job is to protect a judge, who is receiving death threats. The judge is the mother of Emily who was murdered in 1982 and may have a personal connection to Andrea.

After loving book one of this series I was looking forward to this and I was not disappointed.

As a big Karin Slaughter fan, I am always eager to dive into any of the author’s work I have yet to pick up. After enjoying Pieces of Her, I was excited to dive into another story that followed Andrea Oliver. As always with the author, it was a book I found myself hooked on.

Girl, Forgotten was a story that hit hard from the start. In fact, for a while I thought this was going to be my new favourite read from the author. The part of the story that took place in the past broke my heart, ensuring I felt everything. There was so much emotion to that element of the story, and I loved it. In true Slaughter fashion, the dark truth was given – and it ensured you felt everything for the characters impacted by what happened. While I enjoyed the part of the story taking place in the modern day, I will admit that I found things a little too easy toward the end of the story. This is why, in the end, I rounded my four-point-five-star rating down. I was super invested in everything that was happening, then it felt like I blinked, and it was over. Although I appreciate the way the story came together, I do wish there had been a little bit more to it. An extra twist, something I had not seen coming, a little more drama – something to have lessened the way it felt like it came together too easily.

All in all, fans of Slaughter need to give this a read. It’s another story that hits hard and ensures you’re hooked throughout. Once again, I am eager to dive into my next Slaughter book.

I love the detail that Karin adds to her stories, however I feel like this could’ve been 50-100 pages shorter and still told the same story.
I also just don’t get the whole Andrea/Mike relationship at all!

This is the second book in the Andrea Oliver series by Karin Slaughter, although the reader does not need to have read the first book in the series to enjoy this one.
Andrea has graduated as a US Marshal and is assigned to protect a judge who has been receiving death threats. This assignment, however, is a cover for Andrea's real purpose, to find who killed Emily Vaughan.
Alternating between Emily's timeline 40 years ago and the present, the author keeps the reader guessing and intrigued. The character of Andrea is further developed and readers are introduced to Catfish Bible, who adds humour to the book, with his interactions with his wife and boss and ability to cut to the chase. I am hoping to "meet" him again in the future. The other characters and storyline show both the best and worst of humanity.

Another good read from Karin Slaughter.
