This is an amazing read and I could not put this book down. Karin Slaughter is the queen of crime thrillers.

Emily Vaughn finds herself pregnant, alienated and the town laughing stock but one thing that she is adamant about is that she will love her baby and ensure that it does not have the same life as her. They say that when you make plans god laughs and for Emily never was a truer word spoken. On the night of her school prom Emily is brutally beaten, left for dead and her body dumped in a bin. 40 years later the crime has never been solved and the father of Emily's baby is still to be unmasked.

Following the later timeline US Marshal Andrea Oliver is enlisted to protect Emily's mother from a stalker, but Andrea also has a personal interest in Emily's story, could her father Clay also be the father of Emily's baby.

I found this book really interesting because the characters were either hugely likeable - Emily, Catfish Bible and Andrea, or hugely unlikeable - Dean Wexler, Clay, Ricky, Nardo and Blake.

I loved the twist and turns the book offered and I'm also excited to see that Andrea Oliver may in fact be a series.

This is book number two in the Andrea Oliver series and while it can be read as a standalone I highly recommend reading book number one first for the back story.
Andrea Oliver has just graduated and is now a US Marshal. Her first case is to protect a judge who is receiving death threats. The judge is the mother of Emily Vaughn who was murdered in 1982 and may have a personal connection to Andrea.
After thoroughly enjoying book number one I was really looking forward to this book and I wasn't disappointed. The story is told over two different times lines, the past is Emily's story and the present is Andrea's. Like book number one it took a little while to get into but the story soon picks up and has enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. The cliff hanger ending has left an opening for book number three and I am really hoping that there will be one!
Highly recommended!

This was another compelling and solid thriller. Unfortunately I hadn’t realised that I hadn’t read the first book, but that didn’t stop my enjoyment of this book, though I think would’ve been extra helpful especially for the backstory with our fearless lead’s fractured relationship with her mother.

I really, really enjoyed this!
I am a big Karin Slaughter fan so was looking forward to reading this.
The book I read just before this one wasn't one I enjoyed unfortunately and I felt like I was fighting through it page by page (before I finally gave up), so when I started reading this and could feel myself flying through the pages, I was delighted. She just writes so well! Her characters and storylines never fail to grip me and I can't wait to get back to it at the end of the day. You'd think after reading lots of her books, it would get boring, but it doesn't!

Forty years ago, a pregnant teenager named Emily Vaughn was beaten to death in a small beach town in Delaware, and the killer was never caught. In a haze about the person and the circumstances that caused her pregnancy, and ostracised by almost everyone for that reason, Emily was on the verge of succeeding in her quest for truth when she was killed. The stone-cold case gets a new lease of life when newly minted Deputy US Marshall Andrea Oliver is assigned to investigate it secretly while ostensibly working in the protection detail of Emily's mother, Esther, a federal judge in her eighties now. The surprising assignment – on the day of Andrea’s graduation from the academy – has been orchestrated by an influential person who is concerned, at least partially, with the safety of Andrea, and her mother, Laura, who are in the crosswires of a dangerous psychopath who is presently in jail and could be released soon. Any success Andrea has in linking the old murder to the psychopath – the most likely suspect from all those years ago – would mean his incarceration for life and relief for the mother and daughter.

Thrust head-on into something she is utterly inexperienced with, Andrea is lucky to have Leonard Catfish Bible, a veteran – something of a legend – Marshall as her partner, but she needs to hide her original motive even from him. Barely a day in town, Catfish drags Andrea along into the investigation – against the wish of the local law enforcement – of a death that seems to have been caused by the misdeeds of a few people who, forty years ago, had been closely connected to Emily Vaughn. Solving the recent crimes could be the key to solving the old murder – and preventing further ones – but Andrea's preconception about the killer's identity and her inexperience could make her commit serious lapses that could get people, including herself, killed.

Girl, Forgotten is another cracking thriller by Karin Slaughter that upholds her reputation as one of the best in the business. This is the second novel featuring Andrea Oliver after Pieces of Her, which I have not read but could manage well for the most part. Slaughter masterfully builds up her characters and the plot, tightening the screws gradually towards an intense finish. Alternating between the current events and those of forty years ago, she narrates the heartbreakingly poignant account of young Emily’s last months on earth and Andrea’s present-day investigation parallelly. Andrea is an intriguing, layered character, and the rest of the cast – especially the women – are similarly riveting. But the one person that stands out since his first appearance is Catfish; enigmatic and ebullient in equal measures, he never stops surprising everyone around him, and his hilarious interactions with his Boss and wife provide much-needed relief from the intense goings on. I had read only one novel by the author before this, which was full of blood and violence and gore, but this one is in no way tame despite the relatively less blood. I had a terrific time reading Girl, Forgotten – hating the moments when I had to put it down for other work – and look forward to the next one in line, as foretold by the hook at the end.

My hearty gratitude to HarperCollins, UK, for the DRC of Girl, Forgotten through NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.

This is the second book in the Andrea Oliver series, the first being Pieces of Her. I enjoyed the first book but I loved this one more. Andrea is now a US Marshal and she is turning into a great character and this had a good, action packed storyline. You could read it as a stand-alone but I would recommend starting with the first book. I hope there will be more to come in this series as I certainly would love to read more about her. Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction for letting me read and review this book.

As a newly qualified US Marshall, Andrea Oliver is keen to do her duty. When she receives her first assignment to go to Longbill beach to protect a judge receiving death threats, she is also keen to investigate a forty year old case of a missing teenage girl who went missing on prom night.
The problem she faces is no one wants to talk about Emily, family and friends have moved on and don't want to bring up the past. It seems Emily had a secret they just want to stay hidden.

As always when you pick up a book by Karin Slaughter, you know you're in for a real treat. This is the second in the Andrea Oliver series and we are seeing more of her character develop, determined to be a real kick ass Marshal.

I shall be eagerly awaiting the next in the series!

I really really like Karin Slaughter, she has an easy but intriguing way of writing stories that keep your attention and interest all the way through. I loved the follow on from pieces of her and couldn’t wait to keep picking it up. It had a slightly slower start but overall another incredible read!

Girl Forgotten is the second novel about Andrea Oliver and sees her newly qualified as a US Marshal sent on her first assignment. A federal judge has had her life threatened and Andrea has been sent to join the team keeping her safe. Her new partner Catfish Bible has a very close relationship with the Judge and is also married to the senior officer of this Marshal outpost. In addition to this ,Andrea has been tasked with trying to find the answers to a cold case, a murder of a young pregnant teen, the daughter of the federal judge. If that wasn’t complicated enough, the key suspect in the cold case is her biological father who’s is in prison due to be up for parole very soon, unless that is, they find further crimes he has committed and prove his guilt.
I thoroughly enjoyed every dark moment of this novel, told through Andrea’s eyes and that of Emily the murder victim ,you’re never quite sure which way the story will unfold as the cold case and it’s key players all begin to merge. Karin Slaughter books’ never disappoint and I cannot wait to read what happens next in Andrea’s life

A real bittersweet read and utterly compelling. A young pregnant girl is killed on prom night and the assumption is that it was by the father, trying to prevent his identity from being revealed. The pregnancy had been due to Emily being raped so she had been desperately trying to find out the identity of the father herself. That night had basically ruined her life as she respectable parents were horrified and being a teenage, single parent was vilified and left her a social pariah cast aside cruelly by even her own (toxic) clique.
As in true, small town, style there are many secrets and lies just under the surface, some which remain hidden for decades to come, fester and bubble over eventually.
There are some strong themes in this story, rape, cults, homosexuality and teen pregnancy and they are all tackled well in their contemporary contexts. A gripping storyline and highly recommended.

Unfortunately this book wasn't for me. The plot was fine but telling it just seemed to drag. I nearly abandoned after 30% but carried on as the author had kindly given me an advanced copy. I didn't particularly like any of the characters, not even Andrea or Emily so it was more a case of finishing the book to read something else than finding out what happens to them. Slaughter is a popular writer and I have enjoyed some of her other books so I am sure many people will enjoy this one.

As a Karin Slaughter fan this didn't disappoint. A small town with big secrets and Andrea Olivier in the story; I was hooked.

Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for a copy of the novel in exchange for an honest review5

Thank you for this net galley read of Girl, Forgotten. A dual timeline book is my favourite style of book so the fact we got to return to the 1980's as well as the present future was a lot of fun.

I also loved that this is Book 2 AFTER Pieces of her. Pieces of Her was one of my favourite reads of 2019 and I really enoyed the charceter development in it, so to see Andi in a new light was fab. She's the star of the show in this book and she played it very well. She's toughened up a bit and it was needed after Book 1. It was also brilliant to go back to Nick Harp and find out more of his back story, or shall we say, find out his real name!!

As always we are treated by Slaughter some some absolutely vile charcters and I actually like this It wouldnt be a book by Slaughter without some doom and gloom. She is the queen of crime after all. Really hoping we get this made into a series just like pieces of her was.

Another great read, Karin writes cracking books that grab you from the opening chapter and don’t let go till the last chapter.

I adore Karin Slaughter. Honestly. I’ve been reading her for more than a decade and a half and I still get super excited and giddy when I know she’s got new work coming. Luckily when I got this o wasn’t aware it was a sequel to Pieces of Her, which is probably the only Slaughter work I haven’t loved. I would have approached this with trepidation. Instead I just went in and I was pleasantly surprised.

I really liked the story and I liked the characters. I thought Bible was great, and Andrea actually becoming something was well worth it. As Slaughter always does, she seamlessly and thrillingly weaves two timelines together. I thought this was a great read and has definitely gotten me more excited for novels featuring Andrea.
