Now this pains me to say as I love Karin Slaughter, who doesn't?.. but.. this just isn't a series I have enjoyed 🙈 maybe I've just been spoilt with previous series that I've absolutely loved!

This is the second installment in the Andrea Oliver Series. Andrea has just graduated from the US Marshall's programme and is alot more confident than she was in book #1.

This is a story about 2 cases. A cold case from 1982 of a murdered pregnant teenager and a present case of a federal judge who is receiving death threats. The federal judge just so happens to be the mother of the murdered teenager!

The cold case storyline at times felt a bit slow alot of the time and the characters felt rather flat, they needed more fleshing out which meant I just didn't 'get'any of them.. and there were alot!

I just don't think I particularly like Andrea as a character, she bumbles around annoyingly and just seems pretty stupid in all honesty.

Whilst I don't think I'll be carrying on this series in the future it most definitely wont stop me reading this author!

Thanks to netgalley and Harper Collins UK for the ARC.

Though slightly irked by slack editing in the three Slaughter books I've read, she is without doubt a terrific author, so I can't resist her books.

This picks up a character from Pieces of Her. One who, in that book, actually developed quite dramatically: Andrea. She transformed from a rather aimless and ambitionless young lady…and if I'm honest, slightly irritating…to being a trained US Marshal. Her intelligence and rationality really blossom. Her first official case is a hard one; it's a cold case with a personal connection to her. I must confess I enjoyed this more than Pieces of Her.

A case that's forty years old means there's chopping and changing between two time frames, but this is done well, and there's a good pace to the story. I was unable to predict the dramatic outcome, and despite all ends being neatly tidied up, the latch isn't quite on the door. There's just the smallest chink of light, which I hope means we'll meet Andrea again. Slaughter's talent is in giving us diverse and interesting characters, a compelling plot and intelligent writing. I'm that much of a fan of hers, I will forgive her for forgetting to thank her readers in her profuse thanks to Tom, Dick and Harry and all in her acknowledgements.

This is a thrilling and exciting book. Andrea is training to be a US Marshal, and she is sent to her dads hometown to investigate an old murder. This book us a dual timeline, and we also get to know Emily the girl who was murdered. At times it was difficult to read, as it was upsetting to hear what happened Emily. This is one book that is not to be missed.

I didn't realise this was a sequel to Pieces of Her and I probably wouldn't have requested it if I had. I wasn't a fan of the first book and had the same problem with this one. It's slow going and I don't like the main characters. It's a shame because I love all of Karin Slaughters other books but this series isn't for me.

Girl, Forgotten by Karin Slaughter is the second in the Andrea Oliver series and another gripping read by this highly skilled author.

Newly graduated as a US Marshall, Andrea finds herself thrown in at the deep end to protect a judge who has received death threats whilst also investigating a decades old murder with links to her incarcerated father.

Just as I expected, a raw and visceral read which kept me hooked and guessing until the very last page.

Karin Slaughter doesn't disappoint n this one. Girl Forgotton is told partly through the experiences of a murdered girl in the early 1980s and partly through the point of view of a recently qualified US Marshall trying to get to the bottom of the girl's death whilst protecting the girls surviving relatives.
With a cast of characters that are well formed and who each elicit some sort of response (repugnance, affection, confusion) from the reader, Slaughter ensures you'll keep reading till the end.
I have to say, I didn't manage to work out the killer and even with more and more information evolving as the book progressed, each twist left me breathless.
4**** .

Girl, Forgotten
(Andrea Oliver #2)
by Karin Slaughter

The book follows two cases - a pregnant teenager killed decades ago and threats to a federal judge's life who also is the mother of dead teenager.

Andrea is new to her job as a US Marshall and together with her partner has to protect the Judge, meanwhile secretly working the cold case. The past story of the teenager had too many trigger warnings - abuse, rape, underage pregnancy, abandonment!! That part was tragic. The humour between the partners working together was good.

This is the first book by the author for and i can understand why it has received mixed reviews. Even though it didn't work for me, if you like the author's style, you can try. A decent thriller!!

Even though it’s a second book in a series, it can be read as stand-alone

I'm a big Karin Slaughter fan and so I jumped at the opportunity to read the 2nd installment of the Andrea Oliver series. Whilst I love the Grant County series and Slaughter's stand alone books, I hadn't enjoyed the 1st in the series as much as I usually do her books. I'm pleased to say though, that this is a big improvement, particularly in character development for Andrea, and I really enjoyed this book. I will continue to watch out for Slaughter's new releases as I know to expect quality storytelling from her.

I would say that while helpful to have read the first book in the series, I don't think it would be essential, as I'd forgotten a lot of details from the previous book as it came out a while ago. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

The story begins in 1982 where heavily pregnant teenager Emily Vaughan leaves her home to attend her senior Prom and never returns home having been found brutally murdered. In the present day newly-qualified US Marshall Andrea Oliver (a character from Karin's previous novel Pieces of Her) is given the assignment of protecting federal judge Esther Vaughan who is receiving death threats........and also happens to be the mother of murdered Emily. Emily's killer was never caught and it's not long before Andrea dives into this cold case determined to get justice for Emily after almost 40 years.
The story is told across both timelines and in 1981/82 follows Emily's own investigation into the night she fell pregnant as she has no recollections of what happened to her that evening while attending a party with her friends. It is obvious that Emily's detective work led to her murder but who wanted her dead and why?
I enjoyed this more than Pieces of Her as Andrea seems to have matured and is following a purposeful career path and i found the characters very intriguing with their secrets and motives. Emily's friends in particular were an odious bunch and I had each and every one of them as the killer at various points in the story such was my dislike of them! As always with this author it is not an 'easy' of light read although this is one of her less grisly reads.
Another great read from Karin Slaughter and although not 5 star (I enjoy Grant County and Will Trent titles slightly more and thought Pretty Girls was outstanding!) it was a solid 4 star read for me.
Huge thanks as always to Netgalley, publishers and author for the ARC copy.

This is my new favourite Karin Slaughter book! I love books that go back and forth in time gradually filling out the story of what happened to a character so this was right up my street. I also really liked that we're back with Andrea Oliver (from the previous book Pieces of Her) and seeing what she is up to now. I much preferred this to the previous book and I really hope there's more to come in this series.

Karin Slaughter does it again! I’ve always been a huge fan of her work and this is no exception. This book lived up to my expectations and more. Can’t wait for her next work

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was left guessing who murdered Emily until the very end. I did not read the first book about Andy but you don’t need to read this to know what’s going on. I very much recommend this

Girl Forgotten was my first Karin Slaughter novel and I have to say i really enjoyed it. It was well-written with lots of twists and turns and enough suspense to keep me gripped throughout. I found it at times incredibly poignant too with its themes of loss and regret.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to review an arc.

I have loved previous Karen Slaughter books, and this newest outing for her did not disappoint. Atmospheric and chilling in many places, I was hooked.

No one quite writes thoroughly absorbing, seat of your pants thrillers quite like Karin Slaughter. And Girl. Forgotten is a reminder why Slaughter is the best at what she does. When Emily Vaughn is murdered after her prom night her friends and her school close ranks. Twenty years later US Marshall Andrea Oliver is in town to protect a judge but really to determine what happened to Emily and why. Loved the richness of the detail around the 80s, and Andy’s relationship with her colleague. Girl Forgotten is the usual well structured thriller with the kind of flawed multi faceted characters we’ve come to expect from Slaughter. Compellingly brilliant.

I enjoyed this book, it was easy to read and held my attention. I will be reading more from this author :)

I was hoping to get to this book sooner as I’m a huge fan of Karin Slaughter. Girl Forgotten has all the trademarks we have come to expect from this author, gritty, brutal with a plot that digs deep into the darker side of crime. I really enjoyed the dual timeline in the book. Seeing many of the characters in their formative years, back in 1982, really helped me to have so much more insight. Andrea’s character has dramatically moved forward. This isn’t one of my favourite reads by the author and I’m not really sure why, it maybe because I compared it to her Will Trent series which I love. The plot doesn’t feel as fast paced, as her previous books.
