I have to admit that it took me longer than expected to finish this novel and I initially couldn't figure out why because the way it is written is engaging, entertaining and of Slaughter's usually literal quality. However the characterisation and plot left a lot to be desired. I already found the first instalment of this new series tedious in terms of repetitiveness and eggshell walking of particular issues that Slaughter's earlier novels were not afraid to discuss in vivid detail.

This novel is the second in the series about Andrea Oliver who becomes a US Marshal. Her assignment is to protect a judge from death threats, however she becomes intrigued about the murder of the judge’s daughter many years before. This is a tense and suspenseful thriller that is difficult to put down. Recommended for those that have enjoyed Karin Slaughter’s previous work, particularly the first Andrea Oliver novel, Pieces of Her. Thank you to Harper Collision UK Harper Fiction and Netgalley for an Arc of this novel.

Girl Forgotten is the second book in the Andrea Oliver series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. Andrea has just graduated and is now a US Marshall. Her first assignment is a job guarding a Supreme Court judge that has been receiving death threats. This ties in with a cold case, the murder of the judges daughter forty years ago. Andrea is tapped because one of the suspects in the murder is her father, who is coming up for parole. If he is found to be the murderer, he will be kept in prison for many years to come. We meet Emily in 1982, pregnant when she was assaulted and she kept on life support until her daughter was able to be born. We also meet her clique, five friends that did everything together. Did one of them kill her or was it someone else entirely. In 2022, Andrea stumbles upon some clues in Emily's daughter's artwork, which lead her in several directions. She works with an experience partner, who is able to assist her in putting two and two together. Who is threatening the judge? Will they find out who killed Emily?

Girl, Forgotten was a wonderful story that had me flipping pages well past the time I should have gone to bed. Karin Slaughter's stories always pull me in with great characters, a twisty plot and something that is just a bit different. This book has some extremely unlikable characters that are more than a little sleezy. There is a farm that is similar to a cult, but the followers are all women. The leader is far from charismatic, but seems to have a hold on these young women. The characters in this book make the story. Andrea and Bible are a great pair, and have a kind of synergy between them. The inhabitants in Longbill Beach all seem to have secrets, ones that will destroy, but also uncover the truth to the murder. I liked both timelines in this book. It was great to get to know Emily and see what a great person she was and see all that she could be in the future. Seeing her "friends" as teens and then again as adults was sad as they had not moved forward in a positive way. Overall, this was a twisty and gripping story that I enjoyed and recommend to those who like suspenseful books that will keep them guessing. Another winner from Karin Slaughter.

The murdery investigation of pregnant school girl lasted 40 years. Many people wanted to know what really happened to Emily and even Emily herself being a part of her friends clique couldn't feel that everything is different than it looks.
Mystery with many suspects, in the end of the book unexpectedly reveals drama what caused the death many years ago.

#GirlForgotten #NetGalley The second book in the Andrea Oliver series and another excellent read from Karin Slaughter - her books never disappoint! I have read Pieces of Her - the first book in the series but I think this one is perfectly capable of being read as a stand-alone. This book had me hooked from the first chapter as Andrea - a newly appointed US Marshall is partnered with Leonard Bible to protect a Judge who has received death threats. Andrea also has her own personal agenda that runs alongside and is inextricably linked with this case. Plenty of action and twists and turns. A well-deserved 5 stars and I hope there are further books in this series.

Thanks to NetGalley, Karin Slaughter and Bookouture for the ARC of Girl, Forgotten.

I am a big fan of Karin Slaughter having enjoyed a number of her other titles, so was excited to read this. It turned out to be a fast paced and gripping thriller which held my attention well with lots of suspense throughout.

Josie's brother was killed when he was just a child, locked in a walk in freezer and found when it was simply too late. Samuel Barlow - the same age as Josie, was sent to prison for his murder - but now; years later, he's served his time and is about to be released.

Just days after Samuel's release, Josie's daughter goes missing.- this cant be a coincidence? Can it??

With loads of twists and reveals; this book kept me on my toes and I really enjoyed it. Would recommend.

I still haven’t got round to reading Pieces of Her and didn’t realise this was the second in the series, so I feel like I missed out on some background.

US marshal Andrea Oliver arrives in Longbill beach to protect a judge following death threats. She meets her new partner; Bible and they keep the family safe. Behind the scenes though, Andrea is investigating a murder from 40 years ago of a pregnant teenager, who just happens to be the judge’s daughter, Emily. Andrea has a vested interest in solving the puzzle in time.

I think I probably should have read book one first and then come to this one and I plan to do that soon and then re-read this one to see if I liked it more. The characters are well developed, and I particularly liked Bible and Andrea’s relationship. I didn’t enjoy this as much as some of Slaughter’s other books though and wonder if that’s more because I didn’t read the first one.

I didn't realise when I requested Girl, Forgotten that it was a sequel to Pieces of Her (Karin Slaughter is an auto-request author for me, I don't even bother reading the book blurbs). That being said, Pieces of Her was one of my least favourite Slaughter novels so I went into this one with some trepidation. Andy was such an annoying character that I didn't think I could handle 14 hours of reading/listening to her make more stupid decisions.

However, always happy to be proven wrong and this is one such case.

Where Andy was weak and pathetic in book one, newly recruited US marshall, Andrea, is the complete opposite (which I found hard to believe but hey, happy to roll with it if means she's grown a damn backbone). For the majority of the novel, she was smart, savvy, and switched on - something I love to see in female law enforcement. While I couldn't see at first why this book wasn't written as a stand-alone, it soon became clear when the backstory started falling into place.

Sent to the hometown of her manipulative and imprisoned father, Andrea is set two tasks - one public and one secret - 1) protect the esteemed judge who is receiving death threats and 2) find evidence that her father was responsible for raping and murdering a young girl from his culty friendship group forty years prior to prevent his release.

As per the author's usual style, this book may be long but it is by no means filled with fluff. Every sentence is relevant and you're constantly left pondering certain actions or revelations. Slaughter knows when to take it slow (setting the scene and introducing new characters) and when to ramp it up, making this one a rollercoaster thriller that leaves you constantly questioning people's true motives.

The intertwining storylines were brilliantly plotted; I was particularly invested in the flashbacks leading up to Emily's murder and her own investigation into who raped her while she was drugged and got her pregnant. I wanted answers just as much as she did and while I wasn't overly enamoured by the outcome, I thought the motives were strong and believable.

It was the sequel I never knew I needed that concluded with me only craving more. The ending sets us up for a third instalment so I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for that.

The second book in the Andrea Oliver series, a good addition to the series though I did feel the author dragged the storyline out in places. Left with a cliffhanger so looking forward to the next one!

This was my first Karin Slaughter novel, and what a wonderful introduction to this author it was! I stayed up into the wee hours to finish it. I cannot wait to read more from her backlist now.

I have to admit, I did not know that this was a follow up book to Pieces Of Her, which I had not read. It did not take away from absolutely loving this book, and I feel that it can be read as a stand alone. I have since watched to Netflix series (brilliant) and have tied all the pieces together.

Written in a duel timeline, we follow an unsolved murder from 1982 to present day events. It’s like an intricate jigsaw puzzle, that slowly comes to fruition piece by piece. There is a deeply complex plot that is revealed with each sentence as the clues all collide together. I loved all the characters, each with their own distinct and unique voices. The atmosphere surrounding the small town setting was brilliantly written, so much so, that I could see both the present and forty years prior town.

It is an explosive and powerful read. Highly recommended.

Andrea Oliver, a newly inducted US Marshal (who will no doubt be making future appearances in Slaughter's work) is assigned to provide security for a Supreme Court Judge. Andrea, however, has her own agenda and whilst in the process of investigating a current incident identifies links to the 40 year old cold case murder of Emily Vaughn, the Judge’s daughter. Alternating between past and present family secrets are revealed. It always astonishes me how writers can weave together such intricately layered plot lines and Slaughter is an expert. Thanks to Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review. #netgalley #harpercollinsuk #karinslaughter

Girl, Forgotten is an outstanding sequel to Pieces of Her following Andrea Oliver, now a US Marshal. She is assigned to protect a judge receiving death threats, but in reality is trying to solve a murder that happened forty years earlier. Highly recommended! Follow-up to Slaughter's crime thriller "Pieces of Her" featuring Andrea Oliver, now a newly qualified US Marshal assigned to protect a judge, who has been receiving death threats. But her focus is on a 40-year-old unsolved murder. A suspenseful and twisty thriller.

It’s been a while since I have read a Karen Slaughter novel and realise this has been my bad.
This was an exceptionally written story, very layered, cleverly interlinking a previous murder to a modern-day situation.
Andrea Oliver is a newly qualified marshal, with a past that meant she was placed under protection and given a new identity. Due to her links that are explained in the book, she is assigned this case with the very shrewd and experienced Marshal, Leonard Bible. He allows her to excel, albeit also puts her in some high-risk situations. Andrea is a very sharp and intelligent officer, who is a quick learner, yet highly aware of her inexperience. Her thoughts are really insightful, and she is a highly likeable character that you back all the way.
A meaty read, it flows effortlessly due to the pace of the story, its layering and character growth. It moves back and forth to the past situation when Emily was trying to work out who impregnated her whilst she was oblivious due to having taken drugs. She introduces you to the ‘clique’; her not so nice friends that she had put on a pedestal, before she was murdered. Andrea encounters these unsavoury characters as adults and how they have turned out in the present day.
Having not read the other Andrea Oliver related books, this read comfortably as a standalone. It held me from beginning to end as I devoured the fascinating nature of these characters, their dialogue and behaviours.
